Elon Musk is reportedly among the many parties weighing up a formal bid for Manchester United as the deadline to make offers approaches.

Elon Musk monitoring Manchester United ahead of deadline for takeover bids

Recall that The Glazers revealed in November that they were willing to listen to offers for either a stake in the Premier League giants or an outright purchase. The deadline to bid for Manchester United is on Friday, February 17, and Daily Mail reported that the South African, who is the second World’s richest man and CEO of numerous companies including Space X, Tesla, and Twitter, is wondering if there is an opportunity at Old Trafford that he should not miss. He faces reported competition from Qatari investors, the Middle Eastern country’s Emir, and individuals or consortiums based in Saudi Arabia and the United States. Musk has hinted in the past that he would like to buy United, stating on Twitter in August 2022 amid protests against the Glazers that he was “buying Manchester United ur welcome”. Elon Musk monitoring Manchester United ahead of deadline for takeover bids While it was suggested at the time that he was joking, the 51-year-old South Africa-born business magnate later added: “Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.” It is expected that a bid of up to £4.5bn could be enough to get a takeover over the line even though United’s American owners reportedly wanted between £6bn and £8bn to sell up. The report notes that dozens of interested parties have already expressed their interest and signed the necessary paperwork to be granted access to confidential data about the club. United’s next owners will likely need to have money in reserve – up to £2bn, according to some estimates – to commit to redeveloping Old Trafford. This should be no issue for Musk, even though Tesla’s plummeting stock price led to his net worth being slashed by £150bn since November. Should United fetch a sum of £4.5bn as expected, they would become the most expensive sports team in the world, surpassing NFL side the Denver Broncos, who were bought for £3.7bn last year.

“Submit your old Naira notes after the February 10 deadline”

GistReel

Godwin Emefiele, has revealed that commercial banks must accept the old Naira notes even after the February 10 deadline.

Emefiele

The Governor of the Central Bank announced this on Tuesday while appearing before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee looking into the implementation of the policy. Emefiele said he agrees with section 20(3) of the CBN Act, which provides that commercial banks must accept old notes after a deadline. Section 20 (3) of the Act says: “Notwithstanding Sub-sections (1) and (2) of this section, the Bank shall have power, if directed to do so by the President and after giving reasonable notice in that behalf, to call in any of its notes or coins on payment of the face value thereof and any note or coin with respect to which a notice has been given under this Sub-section, shall, on the expiration of the notice, cease to be legal tender, but, subject to section 22 of this Act, shall be redeemed by the Bank upon demand.” Emefiele had on Sunday announced 10 February as the “grace period” for Nigerians to deposit the old Naira noted. Nonetheless, the lawmakers are insisting that it must be months, not days.

In his speech, Mr Emefiele said: “The law which says even after the old currency has lost its legal tender status that we are mandated to collect these money. And I stand with the House of Reps on this. What does that mean? It could have lost its legal tender status which means we have moved on. But if you have your money that you have not been able to send to the bank we will certainly give you the opportunity to bring them back into the CBN to redeem it. Either you pay it to your bank account or you want to do an exchange—we will give you. You will not lose your money. This is the assurance I give to Nigerians.”

CBN extends deadline for expiration of old Naira notes

GistReel

The deadline for exchanging the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes, part of the three series of Naira, is extended by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) until February 10th, 2023. The CBN responded to pressure from concerned Nigerians following the disruption caused by the introduction of the redesigned currency. This was announced in a statement by CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on January 29th, 2023. The original deadline of January 31st, 2023, was set after the introduction of redesigned notes in December. The extension has, however, been made to accommodate the collection of more old notes as there is a shortage of the redesigned notes currently in circulation.

Tinubu submits Masari’s name as running mate to beat INEC deadline

Tinubu submits Masari’s name as running mate to beat INEC deadline

Presidential aspirant and the APC flagbearer, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has presented the name of Kabir Ibrahim Masari as his running mate for the 2023 election.

With the INEC deadline already upon them, the APC has submitted the Katsina born politician as a “place holder” until the party has come to a resolution on who will be the perfect fit as vice presidential candidate.
This move by Tinubu and the APC is meant to evade the June 17 deadline which was set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for all parties to submit their running mates.

The APC flagbearer would be meeting president Buhari today, June 16, as talks on his running mate continue.
A source speaking with ThisDay said:
“The name of the running mate submitted would be changed for another northern politician in the next few weeks. The one submitted is just holding the ticket in trust for another candidate to be picked by Tinubu and the party in the next few weeks.
The candidate is still widely consulting, because the issues around the choice of running mate are many and he is yet to address them all. So, he is still asking for more time to look into it all – whether he is running a Muslim-Muslim or a Muslim-Christian ticket.
He personally thinks there’s a need for more consultation and that’s what he is doing. The debate on the choice of deputy has assumed a level that is currently greater than the party and the candidate, hence the need for comprehensive consultation, which is what he is doing.”
