The 2023 national honours recipients have been announced, including notable individuals such as Davido, Kunle Afolayan, and 337 other prominent Nigerians. On Sunday, the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs disclosed the awards across different categories.

Renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan was also honoured with the OON recognition. Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen, whose goal secured Napoli its first Serie A title in 33 years, was bestowed with the MFR (Member of The Order of Federal Republic) accolade. Terry Waya, a well-known socialite and businessman, was similarly recognized in the OFR (Order of the Federal Republic) category. All recipients of the 2023 national awards have been requested to submit an electronic copy of their citation or resume to the ministry by May 31. Additionally, the ministry expects the awardees to be physically present for the presentation of their medals and certificates, scheduled to take place on June 1, 2023.

In her words; “I was an A student until my 300 level when my performance dropped drastically. 11 courses and I have only B’s. Hot tears. I was always sick and at a point my coursemates thought I was SS. “Had issues with mental coordination. I study hard but when it’s time for test or exam, I start feeling a disconnection btw my head and my neck. I struggle to remember and then I start having severe headaches. “My lecturers would call and chide me that I’m playing too much but I couldn’t share what was wrong with me cos I had no explanation for it. “One day my sister went to church and pastor gave her prophecy about me. Carjackers stab UNICAL final year student to death

A final year student of the University of Calabar, Francis Atabi, met a grim fate as he was fatally attacked by suspected carjackers at Mary Slessor roundabout on Friday, May 26, 2023. The 25-year-old student, who also worked part-time as a Bolt driver, fell victim to a shocking act of violence while on duty.

However, during the course of the journey, the suspects attempted to snatch his Toyota Corolla vehicle. Displaying immense bravery, the Education and Political Science student resisted the carjacking, which only served to enrage the assailants further. In a vicious attack, Atabi was repeatedly stabbed and a rope was tied around his neck. The situation quickly escalated as Atabi, in a struggle to defend himself, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a security personnel at the scene. Sadly, the security man also lost his life after being rushed to a hospital in Calabar. SP Irene Ugbo, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the tragic incident and assured the public that an investigation is underway. In a statement released on Sunday, SP Ugbo expressed determination in bringing the perpetrators to justice. “We shall do everything possible to ensure the assailants are arrested. No stone will be left unturned in this matter. We are launching a manhunt, and we shall get them and bring them to book,” stated SP Ugbo. “This is a further wake-up call to Cross Riverians. The killers will be made to face the full wrath of the law when apprehended,” she added. See below;
