On Friday, January 5, the Lagos State government took stringent action by seizing goods displayed by traders along major highways. A video circulating online captured the intense moment when traders pleaded for mercy as their goods was being confiscated. The crackdown was executed by special operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC).

The operation targeted street traders operating on various key routes including Agege Motor road, Old Secretariat GRA Ikeja, Awolowo way, Alausa Secretariat, Agidingbi Jakande road inward LTV 8, Ojodu Berger, and Fagba road. The Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the necessity of the enforcement. In his words; ”We cannot be emotional about enforcement. We have severally warned that traders should desist from displaying or selling things on the walkway, setbacks or main road. It defaces the city and majorly for people’s safety. The man in charge tossed the cartons of the goods in the air while his partner received the boxes mid-air and passed into the store. The effort put into achieving the task has since sparked a wave of reactions regarding the type of labour people go through to make ends meet. A Nigerian woman based in Owerri, identified as @zinnysfarmandseafood, has shared the brutal impact of a 14-day power blackout in Imo State on her frozen food business. Despite spending a substantial amount on fuel in a bid to salvage her inventory, the entrepreneur faced financial losses exceeding N300,000 within just a few days. @zinnysfarmandseafood, who specializes in selling frozen food items, revealed that the lack of electricity during the prolonged blackout led to the damaging of some of her goods.

Faced with this challenging situation, she decided to take strategic action to mitigate further losses. The business owner made the bold move to relocate her market to a cold room in Port Harcourt, ensuring the preservation of her goods amidst the power outage. Expressing her ordeal, she shared her relief that the power outage was eventually resolved after enduring a considerable period of suffering.

Despite the setback, she expressed gratitude that not all of her inventory was affected. “I think these last few days have been the toughest for me in business, but we move. 14 days of power blackout, and I spent so much buying fuel, yet some of my market got damaged,” “But all the same, I am grateful that not all [are] damaged, and they finally called off the strike. A businesswoman is left disappointed after discovering that her new staff looted goods worth N1.3M from her shop within two months of her employment.

A video making rounds on social media captured the ordeal of a businesswoman who almost lost goods worth over a million naira to a thief. The staff was said to have been accosted within the premises of the store with goods worth over N80K which prompted a need to visit her house.

On getting to her house, she had stolen products worth N1.3M and stored them in her apartment. When asked, she stated that she needed those items to train herself to start her own business too. Watch the video below …
