Bayern Munich submits second bid for Harry Kane

Bayern Munich submits second bid for Harry Kane

Bayern Munich have lodged an improved offer for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as they double down on their approach for the England captain. England’s captain Kane has one year remaining on his contract, so Spurs risk losing him for nothing next summer if they do not sell now. The club’s Chairman Daniel Levy is still hopeful the striker can be convinced to sign fresh terms. Bayern Munich submits second bid for Harry KaneHarry Kane celebrating a goal scored for Tottenham. Tottenham will be flying to Australia for the start of their pre-season tour on Friday, July 14. Bayern are in the market for a new centre-forward and boss Thomas Tuchel has made Kane his number one target. Some German tabloids had reported that the Bundesliga giants had a bid of around £60 million turned down last month for the Tottenham star. Tottenham are thought to be holding out for around £100m to sell Kane this summer but he might have something to say on that. Sky’s report claims Kane is keen to seal a move to the Allianz Arena.

It was gathered that Bayern are now willing to pay €80m (£68.4m) plus add-ons for the 29-year-old, who is also determined to secure a switch to the Allianz Arena this summer. Tottenham are likely to reject Bayern’s second offer as well. Despite his collection of individual awards, Kane will turn 30 later this month without having won a single major trophy with Spurs, who have gone 15 years without silverware since clinching the 2007-08 EFL Cup.

Manchester United have ended their interest in signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The Guardian reported that United are now ready to look elsewhere having accepted the Spurs captain will be too expensive and is out of their reach. Spurs value Kane at around £100 million, despite his contract which would soon expire. Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, is keen to hold on to Kane, in the hope that he signs a new contract and despite the knowledge that he could lose the striker for free next summer. He also does not entertain the idea of selling Kane to a direct rival. Real Madrid have also expressed an interest in Kane, but with Kylian Mbappé now a possible option they may opt against pursuing a deal for the England captain. United are still keen to sign the Atalanta forward Rasmus Højlund, who has had an impressive first season in Serie A after joining from Sturm Graz. The 20-year-old scored nine times in 32 league games for the Bergamo side and United like the potential he is showing. But he would not be seen as a regular starter in the No 9 position in 2023-24 even if they could sign him during the summer. Atalanta could, however, ask for as much as €60 million for the Dane.

Manchester United have ruled out the possibility of Harry Maguire joining Newcastle United on loan but are open to selling their captain. Having slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season, Maguire started just eight league games for the club this season with three Premier League sides interested in signing him this summer. The Sun reported that Newcastle is eager to work out a loan deal but the Red Devils have no intention of bolstering the ranks of a top-four rival without being financially rewarded. Aston Villa are watching keenly as they want extra cover in the squad for their European campaign. Villa would have a better chance of a loan deal being accepted by United. Tottenham are linked with the 30-year-old but are yet to make a play. Leicester was also keen on signing the defender but relegation put an end to that idea. United players will reportedly get a pay rise following qualification for the Champions League. And Maguire’s current wages of around £200,000 a week would already be hard to match by most Premier rivals. Victor Lindelof was also the Dutchman’s preferred option during the final stages of the season with left-back Luke Shaw also selected ahead of Maguire on a number of occasions. Ten Hag recently suggested his skipper is not happy with the situation and opened the door for him to leave Old Trafford this summer. United are thought to be working on a deal to sign Napoli star Kim Min-Jae and could cash in on Maguire to help fund that move. The Red Devils fans may need to ready themselves for weeks or even months of rumours about Maguire with no firm decision emerging just yet.

Harry Kane breaks England’s all-time goalscoring record

Tottenham legend, Harry Kane on Thursday night, smashed England’s all-time goalscoring record after converting a penalty in the 2-1 win against Italy. Harry Kane breaks England's all-time goalscoring record Harry Kane netted his 54th goal for the Three Lions from the penalty spot to seal his name in history. He and Wayne Rooney had been tied on 53 goals heading into Thursday’s match. Kane reached the milestone in his 81st appearance for England, 39 fewer games than the current DC United manager. His goal made it 2-0 for Gareth Southgate’s side after Declan Rice netted the opener against the reigning European champions. Speaking after the game, Kane said: Harry Kane breaks England's all-time goalscoring record “I was on the pitch when Wayne broke the record and I know what it meant to him and how proud I was. When I presented him the boot for breaking the record, he said he’d be giving it back to me one day. He’s a special guy, and England legend.” Wayne Rooney has also paid tribute to Harry Kane. He tweeted; “Congratulations to @HKane on becoming @England’s all-time leading goalscorer. I knew it wouldn’t take long but that was quick. Great man, unbelievable goalscorer and an England legend. Congrats Harry” Congratulations to @HKane on becoming @England’s all-time leading goalscorer. I knew it wouldn’t take long but that was quick 🤣. Great man, unbelievable goalscorer and an England legend. Congrats Harry 👏👏👏 pic.twitter.com/mX7M8S8al3 — Wayne Rooney (@WayneRooney) March 23, 2023 Rooney offered a lengthier tribute to Kane in The Times. He wrote; “When I broke the England goalscoring record, with a penalty against Switzerland in September 2015, Harry Kane was the first player to run over and celebrate with me. I later mentioned Harry in the speech I made in the dressing room. “I said that I hoped the young players in the squad would come close to the record themselves, and even be able to surpass me. Harry had scored only three England goals at that point — but I said those words because I knew he could do it. Even then, with only four caps under his belt, I knew he could become England’s greatest scorer if he kept going the way he was and I wanted to give him encouragement. Harry Kane breaks England's all-time goalscoring record “I am delighted for him, for his family, and for the England team now he has done it, having scored his 54th England goal against Italy on Thursday night. Knowing Harry, it’s not something that will go to his head. He will kick on and, in fact, I believe that when he stops playing he will leave the England record in a place where it will be very difficult for someone else to break it. “He wants to be like Poland’s Robert Lewandowski, a goal machine who is still at the very top in his mid-thirties, and he has it in him to make that happen. I think Harry will finish with an England goals total well into the seventies.”

Maguire made his third start since the World Cup during the club’s FA cup victory over Reading on Saturday, January 28. After a goalless first half, Casemiro hit a quickfire brace to put United in control just before the hour mark. Andy Carroll was sent off for the visitors before Fred added United’s third, with Amadou Mbengue heading in a consolation goal. Speaking to reporters after the match, Maguire said made it clear he understands what Ten Hag expects from him as he aims to force his way back into the fold on a regular basis. Harry Maguire speaks after not given play time at Manchester United He said; “I feel like I’ve looked after myself – I think it’s two-and-a-half weeks since my last start – so I’ve been working hard in training, the lads who’ve been playing have been doing well so when I get the opportunity I need to take it and make sure we win. It was nice to be out there helping the lads and I’m ready when my chance comes. “Of course, I’m a player, 29 years old, and I haven’t really been in this position in my career so it’s a position that I don’t want to get used to, but it’s part of the parcel of football. “I’m working hard every day, I’m pushing, I’m training well, and when my chance comes I need to take it. We know at this club we need competition for places, we have some top centre-backs at this club so I think we’re all good from now until the end of the season.”
