The community of Imo State is in mourning following the brutal murder of 25-year-old Ogochukwu Viola Anele. The young graduate of Imo State University was laid to rest on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in her hometown of Umuori Umuafai in Dikenafai Ideato South Local Government Area.

She was found lifeless in a man’s house located in Ikeduru Local Government Area on February 7, 2023. The reason for her presence in the suspect’s house and the motive behind her alleged killing have yet to be determined. Cosmas Anele, Ogochukwu’s grieving father and a retired individual, revealed that the police demanded a payment of N60,000 before they would accompany him to the crime scene and the mortuary where his daughter’s body was deposited.

Ogochukwu, who worked for a payment company, failed to return home on Tuesday, February 7, despite assuring her mother earlier in the day that she would be back. Mr. Anele described the heartbreaking ordeal the family endured. They kept vigil, called her phone repeatedly, but received no response The following morning, Mr. Anele embarked on a search for his missing daughter. He reported her disappearance at the nearest police station and also sought assistance from the Department of State Services (DSS), hoping that Ogochukwu might be among those detained there. Unfortunately, she was not found. While on his way to the Police Station on Mbaise Road, Mr. Anele received a call from his other children, informing him that someone had answered a call made to Ogochukwu’s phone. The call originated from the Police Station in Iho, Ikeduru local government area, further heightening his concerns about his daughter’s whereabouts. Upon arrival at the station, Mr. Anele was directed to the State Criminal Investigations Department, where he was confronted with the devastating news of his daughter’s murder by the officer in charge. He requested to see Ogochukwu’s body to confirm her identity. However, he alleges that the police demanded a payment of N60,000. Despite attempting to negotiate a lower amount, his pleas were reportedly rejected.

Blood was splattered across the floor, belonging to his beloved daughter. Overwhelmed by grief, he broke down and wept. It later emerged that the man accompanying them on the trip was the occupant of the room and the alleged murderer. Subsequently, Mr. Anele was escorted to the mortuary to view Ogochukwu’s remains.

IMSU Takes Action Against Lecturer Who Slapped Female Student For Wearing Mufti To Class

Imo State University (IMSU) has suspended a lecturer at the Physiology Department, Dr. Desmond Izunwanne, following allegations that he assaulted and slapped a female student. The incident reportedly occurred when Ukamaka, a medical laboratory student, showed up in class wearing an outfit deemed inappropriate for the department. According to a press statement signed by Ralph Njokuobi, the Deputy Registrar Head of Media and Public Relations, IMSU management took swift action to suspend Dr. Izunwanne after a video of the incident was shared on social media. The suspension is effective immediately, Gist Reel gathered. The video, which was reportedly recorded by Ukamaka’s classmates, shows the lecturer repeatedly slapping the female student. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for the lecturer to be punished. In its statement, IMSU management condemned the incident and assured the public that it would not tolerate any form of violence or abuse against students. The university also urged students to report any incident of assault or harassment to the appropriate authorities See the statement below; ”It has come to the notice of the Management of Imo State University the viral video circulating the globe about the indecorous actions of a lecturer of the University, Dr. Desmond lzunwanne of the Physiology Department, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences of Imo State University, Owerri against four students of the University. “Management views the action of the lecturer as barbaric and unbecoming of a person of his position. “At the end of the Management meeting held on Tuesday 2 May 2023, Management approved the suspension of the Lecturer Dr. Desmond lzunwanne till further notice and has set up a three-man Disciplinary Committee to unravel the immediate and remote causes that led to his uncouth behaviour.   “The general public and indeed all Human Rights Organizations are hereby implored to allow the University conduct a proper investigation and recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary in line with the staff conditions of service.   “Management will not accept any breach in the academic and moral standards expected of any lecturer irrespective of how highly placed he is in the University and sincerely believe in rules of engagement between lecturers and students.   “The University is on top of the game as it affects the matter under review.
