Davido, Terry Waya, Kunle Afolayan, others to be conferred with national honours

The 2023 national honours recipients have been announced, including notable individuals such as Davido, Kunle Afolayan, and 337 other prominent Nigerians. On Sunday, the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs disclosed the awards across different categories.

Renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan was also honoured with the OON recognition. Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen, whose goal secured Napoli its first Serie A title in 33 years, was bestowed with the MFR (Member of The Order of Federal Republic) accolade. Terry Waya, a well-known socialite and businessman, was similarly recognized in the OFR (Order of the Federal Republic) category. All recipients of the 2023 national awards have been requested to submit an electronic copy of their citation or resume to the ministry by May 31. Additionally, the ministry expects the awardees to be physically present for the presentation of their medals and certificates, scheduled to take place on June 1, 2023.

Renowned Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, is beaming with joy after securing an impressive five awards at the recently concluded Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). Afolayan, known for his exceptional work in the movie “Citation,” took to his Instagram page to express his gratitude for the recognition and accolades he received.

In his heartfelt post, Afolayan expressed his gratitude and shared his excitement for the recognition he received. He wrote; “All thanks to Olodumare. 5 awards. Congratulations to the winning team. Thanks to @naijanetflix for the partnership to make the film and thanks to @africamagic for the recognition.” Afolayan extended his appreciation to his fans, acknowledging their unwavering support.

He referred to them as the “#kunlesfolayanfans and soldiers” and expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the #kunlesfolayanfans and soldiers out there.” The accomplished filmmaker also gave credit to his collaborators, specifically mentioning Netflix for their partnership in creating the award-winning film.

He said; “Thanks to @naijanetflix for the partnership to make the film.” Furthermore, Afolayan expressed his gratitude to Africa Magic for recognizing his work and honoring him with the awards. He said, “Thanks to @africamagic for the recognition.” Afolayan also took the opportunity to thank his mother, well-wishers, and loved ones for their prayers and support.

He acknowledged their role in his success, stating; “Thanks to Maami and all my well-wishers for the prayers and thanks to families and friends for the support.” To conclude his post, Afolayan revealed exciting news about his upcoming project, “Animal all: Rise of the Spectre,” stating, “On to the next one ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.”

Kunle Remi breaks silence following AMVCA snub

Notable Nollywood actor, Kunle Remi breaks silence about being left out of the nominations for the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2023 despite his lead role in the movie Anikulapo. It would be recalled that during the 2023 edition of the AMVCA event, Anikulapo received 16 nominations in 15 categories but Kunle made none.

Addressing the issue during an interview on the TV show ‘Your View’, Kunle Remi stated that the snub did not affect his worth or fame. “Nomination, well, I fell into the category of non-nominated artistes. It doesn’t reduce my value, fame and energy,” he stated. He also stated that his role as “Saro” was not motivated by the desire for an award, but rather by a challenge. It is worth noting that rumours circulated that the actor was snubbed due to comments he made in an interview about a senior colleague who attempted to persuade him to engage in homosexuality.

Recall that Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo movie bagged the highest nominations at the 2023 AMVCA. However, despite his outstanding performance in the movie, Kunle didn’t get bag any nominations. Taking to her Instagram page, Kemi Olunloyo revealed that Kunle Remi was snubbed in the AMVCA Nominations because of his recent interview where he alleged that a certain popular figure tried to lure him into homosexuality.

In a lengthy note, she wrote; “Actor Kunle Remi was snubbed in the AMVCA Nominations despite a stellar performance in the Kunle Afolayan movie. Why? Alleged ‘disrespect’ for a senior colleague. He was said to have been excluded because he allegedly stepped on some toes in the industry following an interview he granted an online platform some weeks back where he alleged that a certain popular figure tried to lure him into homosexuality. Shame that the same movie bagged 16 nominations and he didn’t get one. That’s the Nigerian movie industry for you. Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon offered consolation to his colleague, Kunle Remi after being snubbed at the AMVCA.

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, receives the highest number of nominations at the ninth Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his 2022 film, Anikulapo.

It is worth noting that Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo generated a significant amount of buzz on both Netflix and in theatres within two weeks of its release. Kunle Remi recounts nasty encounter with popular celebrity

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has recounted in a podcast a nasty encounter he had with a popular celebrity who is gay.

Actor Kunle Remi made this disclosure during a discussion on ‘The honest bunch’ Podcast, with other stars. According to him, when he joined the entertainment industry, a friend introduced him to this celebrity to help push him to the top. Kunle disclosed that the celebrity suggested they become gay partners while he tried to teach him how to break his “virginity” with a stick of candle and a cup of oil. He disclosed that he was told that was what most celebrities do to pay their “dues”. Kunle Remi added the big man promised to make him popular and richer in just a month if he agreed to his terms. Kunle Afod escapes death, driver burnt

Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has expressed his gratitude to God after surviving a ghastly accident leaving his driver burnt.

The actor disclosed in a post on his Instagram page that the bus he boarded got burnt alongside the driver. He revealed that an elderly man who came to help also sustained several injuries. Kunle disclosed, however, that although there were no deaths recorded a lot of people suffered a severe degree of injuries from the fire. Kunle Afod wrote on his page; “Earlier today, a disaster tend to happen as my bus got burnt, the driver was brutally burnt by fire, and also an older man who intend to render assistance was equally burnt but special thanks to God Almighty that no life was claimed”
