CBN debunks report on ordering banks to accept N500, N1000 notes

In a Tweet via the micro-blogging platform, Twitter, Mr Osita released a statement affirming that the report about deposit money banks accepting old notes is false. He insisted on President Buhari’s order to only roll out old N200 notes. The statement reads; “The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been drawn to some fake and unauthorised messages, quoting the CBN as having authorised the Deposit Money Banks to collect the old N500 and N1,000 banknotes.   “For the avoidance of doubt, and in line with Mr. President’s broadcast of February 16, the CBN has been directed to ONLY re-issue and recirculate the old N200 banknotes and this is expected to circulate as legal tender for 60 days up to April 10.   “Members of the public should, therefore, disregard any message and/or information not formally released by the Central Bank of Nigeria on this subject.   “Media practitioners are advised to PLEASE verify any information from the correct sources before publication.”

Banks have been instructed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to accept the old N500 and N1,000 notes from their customers who have obtained a reference code generated from the CBN website.

CBN instructs banks to collect old N500, N1,000 notes

According to sources from multiple banks, their branches were recently instructed by the head office to comply with this directive. A top CBN official confirmed the directive: “Yes we have directed them to collect the old N500 and N1,000 from customers, subject to maximum of N500,000.” It is recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari directed that the old N500 and N1,000 notes are no longer considered legal tender, and individuals in possession of these notes should take them to the CBN. In response, the CBN established a portal for individuals to register how much they wish to deposit and receive a reference code to confirm their registration. This reference code can then be used to deposit the old notes at any CBN office throughout the country. However, investigations suggest that due to the high number of people visiting CBN offices to deposit their old N500 and N1,000 notes, the CBN have authorized banks to collect these notes from their customers. A bank official and branch head informed Vanguard that their branch did not open to customers today due to safety concerns, but they plan to begin collecting old notes from customers tomorrow (Saturday).

“I’m just surprised at something that happened so I just thought I share. I’ve been dating this guy for about 2 months, we’re close and looking forward to marriage hopefully later this year.
So the thing is we’re both working and atleast I fend for myself and buy stuffs for myself which I’m not complaining about. This guy sends me just 2k airtime a month which he has done twice now. I was just at work now and he called me to send him N500 airtime, and I’m here thinking why?
I don’t like men that ask , I asked him why is he asking me for such or is he testing me and he said don’t worry don’t worry, how can he even be that bold to beg for such.
This guy hasn’t even done anything for me like gifts or say take this money & buy something for yourself, is this sign of stinginess or a bad sign? how can he even ask me? I bought tomatoes, fish & spices one day on my way to his place cos we planned to cook and later he called for me to add maggi & salt, he didn’t even give me money later, just gave me tfare of 1k.
This is someone I thought of taking seriously and even already introduced to my family as my serious friend . Or does it mean he doesn’t take me seriously?
This is the first time a guy will be asking me for money or card no matter how little. I feel like he’s too quick to ask me for money/stuffs. I’m just confused, please advise. Is this a red flag or I’m i overreacting?”
