The Brazilian government has issued four fines to Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, PSG, player Neymar Jr. for “environmental violations in the construction of an artificial lake at his mansion. The council secretariat said in a statement said the footballer Neymar Jr. bought his Mangaratiba mansion in 2016. According to Brazilian media, it sits on 10,000 square meters (107,000 square feet) of land and features a heliport, spa and gym.
PSG Player, Neymar Jr. “The sanctions add up to more than 16 million reais,” the statement said, a sum set out by the prosecutor’s office in Mangaratiba, a tourist area around 130 kilometres (80 miles) from Rio where the Paris Saint-Germain star has his mansion. Among “dozens of infractions” detected, the authorities listed “carrying out work subject to environmental control without authorization,” capture and diversion of river water without authorization, and “removal of land and suppression of vegetation without authorization.” Neymar has 20 days to appeal the penalty, the amount of which had initially been set at five million reais, close to one million dollars. On 22 June, after complaints based on social media posts, authorities found several environmental violations at the luxury property, where workers were building an artificial lake and beach. Authorities cordoned off the site and ordered all activity to cease, but Brazilian media reported that Neymar threw a party there and bathed in the lake. Neymar’s press office in Brazil did not respond to an AFP request for comment. Neymar, 31, is currently recovering from surgery on his right ankle, which he underwent in Doha in March. The striker has not played since February and doubts have arisen about his staying at PSG. Neymar bought the Mangaratiba mansion in 2016. Apparently, she wants to stay with the former Santos star for the ‘greater good,’ which is the birth of their child in five months. The two broke up last year but got back together to announce the birth of their first child. It will be the Brazilian forward’s second child, as he has a son with former girlfriend Carolina Dantas, who was born in 2011. There has been talk of PSG trying to offload the most expensive player in the world this summer, despite his contract running until 2025. As well as Saudi Arabia, he has also been linked to clubs in England most notably Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle United. 
Recall that ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg with Bayern Munich, PSG announced that Neymar will miss the rest of the season after undergoing an ankle surgery. The 31-year-old has been directly involved in 34 goals this term, which is behind only team-mate Kylian Mbappe (37) and Erling Haaland (38) across Europe’s top five leagues. Commenting on Neymar’s absence, Galtier said Mbappe and Lionel Messi have already worked out a better partnership. 
He said; “I’ve read the debate around Neymar. It’s unfortunate for him and a handicap for the team. Look at his goals and assists this season. When I read that it could be a good thing for us, no! The player is seriously injured. “He’s always been professional since I’ve been here, though he did have a difficult period after the World Cup. “Is the team better balanced? Yes. But is it better like that? Having Neymar in the squad is an additional asset for us to score goals.” 
Neymar sustained the injury during PSG’s Ligue 1 clash with Lille on February 19. The club initially announced that he hadn’t sustained a fracture, leading to optimism that a return wouldn’t be too far away. However, on Monday, March 6, PSG confirmed on Monday that Neymar will undergo surgery to repair the ligament damage to his ankle and might miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season. The statement read; “Neymar Jr has had several episodes of right ankle instability in recent years. Following his last sprain contracted on February 20, the medical staff of Paris Saint-Germain recommended a ligament repair operation, in order to avoid a major risk of recurrence. 
“All of the experts consulted confirmed this need. This surgery will be performed in the coming days at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha. A period of 3 to 4 months is expected before his return to collective training.” Neymar Jr has sustained a number of instances of instability in his right ankle in recent years. Following his latest sprain on 20 February, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted have confirmed this necessity. The surgery will be performed in the next few days at the ASPETAR hospital in Doha. It will take 3 to 4 months before he can return to training with the team. PSG is sitting on the number one spot on the Ligue 1 table and currently have an eight-point lead over second-placed Marseille. They will be facing Bayern Munich on Wednesday, March 8, in the Champions League last-16 second leg where they trail 1-0.
