BREAKING: DSS arrests Doyin Okupe in Lagos

Former director-general of Peter Obi’s Labour (LP), Doyin Okupe has been arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS).

One of the lawyers, of Doyin Okupe, Tolu Babaleye disclosed that he was arrested at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Thursday. According to his lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, Doyin Okupe was arrested by the Department of State Service while on his way to London for medical treatment. According to a statement released by Lawyer Tolu Babaleye,  the politician was asked to provide evidence that shows that the Federal High Court Abuja freed him from all charges regarding the money laundering case for which he was recently convicted and given the option of a fine. He wrote: “The information reaching me now is that Dr. Doyin Okupe has been arrested at Lagos Airport by the DSS on his way to London. “The reason according to the source is that he was asked to produce evidence that the Federal High Court Abuja has freed him from the case in which he was convicted and paid a fine to the knowledge of the whole world and was allowed to go home. “When will this harassment stop? Who is after Dr. Doyin Okupe? As of today, the man has no case to answer anywhere, I hereby demand that the DSS should release my Client immediately as it is a violation of his freedom of movement, right to liberty, and dignity as a human person. “This is unfair as the man’s health is fast failing!”

In the resignation letter addressed to Peter Obi barely 24 hours after he was convicted of money laundering charges, Okupe said he took the decision because he has invested too much in your campaign to allow his travails to become a source of distraction.

The letter read;
“Dear Peter, you will recall that I briefed you yesterday about my travails in seeking justice and clearing my name using the Nigerian Legal System to pursue same,” the letter read in part.
“I have invested too much in your campaign to allow my personal travails to become a source of distraction.
“In the circumstances, I have opted to step aside and plead that you appoint a new Campaign DG who can continue the assignment with zero distractions. God bless you and family.”

Okupe also tweeted;
“It’s time to step aside. But I am with PO and the Obidients and the Presidential Campaigns till God gives us victory in Jesus Name.”

Peter Obi picks Doyin Okupe as running mate

President candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has picked Dr Doyin Okupe as his running mate.
According to Arise TV, Okupe was chosen as a Vice Presidential candidate in a placeholder role in order to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline of Friday, June 17.

With the deadline already here, various parties have made moves to submit names of their running mates, with some serving only as a place holder.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate, had also named Kabir Ibrahim Masari as his running mate in order to meet INEC’s deadline of Friday, June 17; Abubakar Atiku has also submitted Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa as his running mate.
