Why we haven’t paid June allowance
National Youth service corps members The Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has provided an explanation for the delay in paying corps members’ allowances for the month of June. According to the NYSC, the delay was due to the administration of funds by various banks.
National Youth service corps members In a statement issued by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Mequa, on July 2, 2025, it was clarified that the Scheme had completed all arrangements for the payment of corps members’ allowances on June 27, 2025. Photo Credit: @dammy_pas Source: Twitter She expressed her disappointment at the lack of focus on the initial capital investment required to launch the program, as critics predominantly focused on the money raised during the marathon. “People always criticize about the money coming in, but they don’t ask about the money that was used to start up the whole program,” Dammy stated. “This program was fully funded by my pastor and a few members of the church. I was not involved in anything. The only thing I did in everything was to cook. I was just the face of the church.” Addressing the rumors surrounding her pastor’s involvement in the proceeds from the cooking marathon, Chef Dammy categorically denied the allegations. She urged individuals to refrain from spreading false information, affirming that more than half of the funds generated were still in her personal account. Dammy clarified that the total amount received had not surpassed the initial investment made to establish the event. “As a matter of fact, all the money that came in for me is not yet up to the money that was used to set up everything. And more than half of the supposed money that came in is still in my personal account. So ongoing rumors about my pastor should please cease,” Dammy explained. Sudan: “We were sexually harassed, paid to urinate”
A group of Nigerian students who were airlifted back to Nigeria from Egypt has alleged that some females among them were sexually harassed and that they were so broke that they had to steal from shops to survive. The students recounted their ordeal to journalists on arrival at the International Airport Abuja. According to a female student, they faced humiliation and had to sleep in the open. “We spent all the money we had. We were so hungry and thirsty. They were harassing us sexually. There was no food, no water to drink. It got to a point we picked things from shops and ran away,” she said. Another female student told the BBC Hausa Service in an interview that their legs were swollen due to long hours of stay in the buses. A male student also revealed that they were forced to pay money before they were allowed to urinate. The students had been studying in Sudan but were forced to leave due to the ongoing conflict in the country. They had traveled to Egypt in hopes of returning to Nigeria, but they were stranded at the border for several days before being airlifted back to Nigeria by the Nigerian government. The returnee students’ harrowing experience has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for urgent action to be taken to address the situation. The Nigerian government has yet to respond to the allegations of sexual harassment and other forms of mistreatment faced by the students.
