Addressing the development, Peter Obi emphasized how perfect the move was despite the country being due for the head coubt. In a statement via Twitter, he wrote; “FGN’s decision to postpone the 2023 Population and Housing Census, scheduled for 3-7 May 2023, to a date to be determined by the incoming Administration is a propitious and welcome development. National Census is a critical development and nation-building tool. Even though Nigeria is long overdue for a census, conducting one requires proper planning and diligence to ensure the sanctity of the results; the efficacy of the data gathered therefrom, as well as their utility in driving national development goals, our living standards and growing national housing deficits. It is hoped that when eventually the census is conducted, it will serve as confidence-building measures instead of being fraught with the usual controversy. -PO”

The Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) mock examination, originally planned for Thursday, March 16, has been postponed by JAMB to Thursday, March 30.

JAMB postpones 2023 mock examination

According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, this change was necessary due to the governorship elections being postponed from March 11 to March 18. He shared this information with reporters in Abuja on Monday. Dr. Fabian Benjamin said in a statement; “Candidates who registered early and indicated their willingness to take the Mock-UTME would be notified as to when to print their Mock-UTME notification slips, which would contain their centres and other details. “The Mock-UTME is an optional examination introduced by JAMB to provide opportunity for candidates to have hands-on experience with the system. “It also affords JAMB an opportunity to ascertain its readiness and that of its partners for the main UTME scheduled to hold between April 29 and May 12, 2023. “The board also uses this opportunity to announce that the 2023 UTME would witness some ground-breaking innovations to address observed infractions and centre failures. “For instance, in the new regime, if there is a delay of up to one hour before the commencement of a particular session, that session stands cancelled and would be rescheduled along with the candidates.’’ Furthermore, Benjamin emphasized that no examination would commence one hour after the scheduled start time, as any available vacant slot would be utilized for the session. “JAMB has made it mandatory that candidates must be notified of their new scheduled sessions or centres, as the case may be, before they leave their original centre. “In addition, no candidate would be allowed to spend less than one hour before submission of responses during the UTME. “Similarly, the new regime would make it impossible for candidates to login after one hour of activation of examination. “If for any reason an examination session is cancelled or cannot hold, candidates are not to panic as they will simply be scheduled for the next available session, which could be that same day,’’ he added. “Candidates are to note that any rescheduled examination is strictly to accommodate only those whose examination session could not hold on account of one reason or another. “It is not for those who were marked LATE or ABSENT for their session,’’ he stressed.

Initially, the elections were scheduled to hold on the 11th of March but have now been postponed to the 18th of March, 2023. The postponement is due to the inability of the commission to promptly commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS machines utilized during the February 25 presidential election to enable their use in the state elections. Mahmood Yakubu INEC was earlier restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until the due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) were issued to candidates who are challenging the outcome of the presidential election. The commission had convinced the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal to vary its order granting Peter Obi of the Labour Party and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar permission to inspect the election materials on the premise that it had to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) for the conduction of the polls this Saturday.
