Female auto-mechanic reveals why vehicles have short life span in Nigeria

The Managing Director, LadyBenz Auto-Mechanic Ltd., Joy Obi, on Thursday, attributed the short life span of vehicles in Nigeria to poor maintenance culture. Obi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that it was important for vehicles to be properly maintained to enhance their aesthetics and guarantee optimal performance.

Female auto-mechanic reveals why vehicles have short life span in Nigeria

Vehicles in a mechanic workshop She said that lack of vehicle maintenance was one of the major causes of accidents on Nigerian roads. Obi said that, unfortunately, many vehicle owners and commercial drivers use engines without adhering to manufacturers’ maintenance instructions, adding that an average Nigerian does not pay attention to such details. According to the auto mechanic, most vehicle manufacturers specify the type of oil suitable for most engines, but to manage cost most people go for cheap oil, which could damage the engine. “Regularly performing oil change as part of your vehicle maintenance routine helps keep the engine properly lubricated, reduces friction and wears. “Routine maintenance ensures that your vehicle operates at its optimal level, minimising breakdowns and maximising reliability. “It helps prevent issues that could lead to unexpected and costly repairs, keeping you on the road with confidence. “It’s also essential to maintain components such as brakes, tyres, and suspension systems for road safety,” Obi said. She added that by addressing minor issues early on and adhering to recommended service intervals, one could extend the life of the vehicle. The auto mechanic stressed the need for vehicle owners to pay attention to the check engine light, also known as the malfunction indicator light (MIL), noting that it was one of the most common diagnosis lights found in vehicles. According to her, it illuminates when the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system detects an issue with the engine or emission control system. Obi added that it was also necessary to pay attention to small details such as the front and rear glasses, brake light, the colour of the smoke from the exhaust pipe and the plugs. She said that all these work harmoniously to ensure the efficiency of any vehicle. The auto-mechanic also urged vehicle owners and commercial drivers to do regular car tyre pressure checks. She noted that this would make the vehicle balanced, as well as make the tyres to wear off evenly. Obi stressed that incorrect tyre pressure could lead to brake failure, unstable movement of vehicles, as well as other problems that could lead to accidents. She said that most motorists are equally ignorant when it came to changing brake pads, adding that some waited till the brake was worn out before changing it. Obi urged vehicle owners and commercial drivers to imbibe the culture of regular vehicle maintenance to avoid breakdowns on highways. She also noted that considering the high rate of inflation in the country it was necessary to pay attention to vehicle maintenance to avoid spending so much money to repair it. Earlier, in a related event, the Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), Mr Kayode Ibidapo, had corroborated Obi, saying that poorly maintained vehicles are likely to consume more fuel. Ibidapo said, during a general meeting and seminar organised by the association, that it was advisable for car owners to maintain their vehicles routinely to avoid spending so much money on buying fuel. He said that this was proactive thinking for vehicle owners, considering the current price of fuel. The theme of the seminar was, “Vehicle Maintenance (Routine and Major Maintenance)’’. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Joy Obi is also a member of NATE.

Short man undergoes painful surgery to increase height (Photos)

A short man has taken a drastic step to increase his height by five inches by undergoing excruciating surgeries.

Moses Gibson, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, US, said he experienced “heightism” from a young age and struggled to get a woman. In his quest for a taller physique, the 41-year-old took medications that promised to help him grow and even reached out to a “spiritual healer”.

He nearly gave up hope until he came across a painful procedure that involves breaking multiple bones. Moses gained three inches after undergoing his first round of surgery in 2016 and now hopes to reach his goal height of 5ft 10in by June after undergoing a second surgery.

He’s spent a total of $160,000 on the intense procedures but says it’s all worth it after being unhappy for years. Moses said: “I’ve struggled with height, I don’t know whether ‘heightism’ is what they call it, but being on the shorter side for men. “Even when I was in high school, I was always unhappy with my height. As far back as when I was probably like 15, I realised most of my peers were taller than me. “It started getting to me gradually. I just didn’t feel good about myself, I was unhappy about it most of the time.” “I used to like clothes and shoes, but I started not feeling happy when I put them on and I wanted to look better. “It was my self-confidence in general, and with the ladies. It affected my dating life. I used to put things in my shoes to gain a little bit of height, but it wasn’t very much. “People made comments. Sometimes it wasn’t in a mean way or intending to hurt, but they’d say ‘sh*t dude, you’re short man’ or make a joke of it.” “I’m a strong, tough guy, so I was never depressed about it but I went searching to see what I could do about it.”

“I got a message yesterday to come for an interview today in a big fancy hotel in VI. Woke up by 6, had my shower did makeup. Left on time to beat up with lekki traffic. Still on a bus when the rain started got down from the bus rain beats me,I told myself I must make it to the interview today. Then again the rain was terrible I had to book uber, on getting to the venue met some other people waiting. Luckily for me it was 25 minutes to the interview.

The HR and interviewer came in called one after the other, my heart was beating fast hoping I would be selected for this great job. Finally it was my turn to be interviewed only for the interviewer to tell me I’m too short to work for the company that they can’t take me because of my height. My God! I was so sad. All the Time, effort, hopes was just in vain. 🥺😭
I’m so ashamed of my country Nigeria. If we don’t help others grow how do we grow🤷‍♀️. That why most girl instead of them working they rather prefer doing prostitution because jobs don’t favour them.Na short I short I no kill person 😭.”
