Nigerian singer, Stanley Omah Didia, best known as Omah Lay, has sparked mixed reactions after revealing his current stand on religion. Recall that the singer, in a recent interview, acknowledged that he was formerly devout but had reverted to his previous ways after becoming well-known and wealthy.
Omah Lay described his upbringing in a Christian household and how, at one point in his life, he considered becoming an Islamic convert. He still believes in God, even if he is no longer religious, but he has chosen to prioritise humanity over religion. He claims that although he still respects and acknowledges the existence of his Creator, he is currently no longer interested in religion.
Omah Lay said that there is no proof that God or his servants wrote the holy book in order to support his position even more. In his words: “I think as soon as I made money I just switched, I just believed in God and respected God and became more human than religion, I just don’t enjoy religion anymore. I grew up in a Christian home, I spent a lot of time in church, and at some point, I was going to convert to Islam but now I’m at the point where it’s just me and God, no religion.” Mixed reactions trailing Omah Lay’s current stand on religion Mr Lilgaga wrote: “Africans become less religious and more spiritual after making it in life” Gorgfit Fashion said: “It’s always like that. He switched because, in Nigeria, people who carry religion for the head are poor” Funmilayo said: “Stop talking like a kid. There’s GOD!!” Charlzz Franklino reacted: “This guy has discovered true freedom of the mind. Immerse yourself in spirituality, not religion. Recall that before Yelisa; Yemi and Nelisa got evicted, Thabang and Nelisa were seen together on countless occasions. There were also times when Nelisa spent the night in Thabang’s bed. Social media users were of the opinion that Nelisa was the only one in the ‘ship’ as Thabang showed less interest in their supposed relationship. It appears the Titan housemate has confirmed the suspicions of fans as he confesses to Khosi that Nelisa meant nothing to him. The disclosure from Thabang comes when he was having a conversation with Khosi. He tried to convince Khosi that Yemi did not treat her well and should forget about him. Also, while they were chatting, Thabang disclosed that he was never interested in Nelisa. The actor in the interview with Sunday Scoop said while it is wrong to bully people for not taking a stand, when one does not participate in the elections or the voting process, those who are looking towards making the country work will see such a person as a spoiler. Okon Lagos said; “Bullying people (including celebs) for not taking a stand in the forthcoming elections is wrong. It is within their right. However, I believe the need to make this country work should be a concern because the country is not working; at least not the way it is supposed to. I also see the frustration of people who want to fix this country.
