Imo State University (IMSU) has suspended a lecturer at the Physiology Department, Dr. Desmond Izunwanne, following allegations that he assaulted and slapped a female student. The incident reportedly occurred when Ukamaka, a medical laboratory student, showed up in class wearing an outfit deemed inappropriate for the department. According to a press statement signed by Ralph Njokuobi, the Deputy Registrar Head of Media and Public Relations, IMSU management took swift action to suspend Dr. Izunwanne after a video of the incident was shared on social media. The suspension is effective immediately, Gist Reel gathered. The video, which was reportedly recorded by Ukamaka’s classmates, shows the lecturer repeatedly slapping the female student. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for the lecturer to be punished. In its statement, IMSU management condemned the incident and assured the public that it would not tolerate any form of violence or abuse against students. The university also urged students to report any incident of assault or harassment to the appropriate authorities See the statement below; ”It has come to the notice of the Management of Imo State University the viral video circulating the globe about the indecorous actions of a lecturer of the University, Dr. Desmond lzunwanne of the Physiology Department, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences of Imo State University, Owerri against four students of the University. “Management views the action of the lecturer as barbaric and unbecoming of a person of his position. “At the end of the Management meeting held on Tuesday 2 May 2023, Management approved the suspension of the Lecturer Dr. Desmond lzunwanne till further notice and has set up a three-man Disciplinary Committee to unravel the immediate and remote causes that led to his uncouth behaviour. “The general public and indeed all Human Rights Organizations are hereby implored to allow the University conduct a proper investigation and recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary in line with the staff conditions of service. “Management will not accept any breach in the academic and moral standards expected of any lecturer irrespective of how highly placed he is in the University and sincerely believe in rules of engagement between lecturers and students. “The University is on top of the game as it affects the matter under review. 400-level LAUTECH student found dead days after being declared missing
Oluwatobi Ogunmola, a student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), who had been reported missing a few days ago, has been discovered dead. According to a reliable source on campus who spoke to The Punch, Ogunmola’s body was found hanging in a bush in Gambari, Ogbomoso, within the Surulere Local Government area of Oyo State.
In addition to being a Physics student in LAUTECH, Ogunmola was also known to work as a mobile phone technician and solar system consultant. Mourning his passing, a Facebook friend of his, Adeleke Abel Ayoade wrote; “In time like this, we sympathise with the family of Ogunmola Taiwo on the death of (their) son who was found dead. A Benin university student who speaks with a British accent has explained how he acquired it. Apparently, the student had gone viral after a prior video of him made the rounds on social media in which he had been interviewed by a fellow student.
Curious netizens had begun asking questions about how he acquired the exotic accent. According to the student identified as Aaron, he had been born with the accent. LASU student who slumped while playing football, dies
A 200-level student of the Lagos State University (LASU) identified simply as Israel, has reportedly lost his life after he was allegedly rejected by four hospitals. Reports gathered that the Business Administration student slumped while playing football and eyewitnesses quickly intervened to help revive him.
According to a post shared by one Jesutosin Oloruntosin Oluwatosin on a LASU Students Facebook group on Monday, April 24, 2023, the deceased went to play football and ‘fainted’ on the field. Israel was reportedly taken to a general hospital and three other hospitals but was allegedly turned away and subsequently passed away.

300-level PLASU student dies after falling from building during side hustle
Moses Simon Gajok, a 300-level Microbiology student at Plateau State University (PLASU) Bokkos dies following a fall from a building at a construction site.
The details surrounding the incident of the 28-year-old student who worked as a carpenter remain unclear, however, it is known that he fell from the top level of the building while working. The student will be laid to rest on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at his family’s property in Dahwol Loh Chak, Kuru, in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The institution’s SUG President, Comrade Peter Arin Kaze, issued a statement on April 21, 2023, confirming the incident.
“I want to use this medium to condole with the family of late Mr. Moses Simon, Indeed PLASITES and the family have lost a hero and will forever miss you. May God almighty forgive you your sins. May the host of angels receive your soul. May his light be with you. And above all may your soul continue to rest in peace with the Lord. Amen.
