A seven-storey building has collapsed in the Banana Island area of Lagos state, leaving many workers in pain under the rubble. Reports gathered that the building, which was under construction, collapsed on Wednesday evening, April 12. It was also revealed that some workers are currently trapped under the rubble.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Lagos state confirmed the incident in a terse statement. “A report of a storey building under construction was just received at Banana Island. Ghanaian international and former Chelsea and Newcastle player, Christian Atsu, is missing and believed to be trapped under the rubble of a building following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey.

The earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria overnight has claimed over 1,600 lives and injured thousands. Search and rescue efforts are underway to locate Christian Atsu, who currently plays for the Turkish club, Hatayspor. According to reports, two of Atsu’s teammates and technical staff members have been rescued from the rubble, but the former Chelsea and Newcastle player is still unaccounted for.

The Oko Oba community in Agege, Lagos State, has been thrown into a state of devastation after Saturday’s heavy downpour ravaged its environs.
The heavy flood swept away buildings, goods and vehicles, leaving the entire community in panic.

Tragically, several occupants of a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), which got trapped in the raging flood have now been confirmed dead.
According to an eyewitness identified with the Twitter handle @TTofChelsea, only one person could get out of the embattled vehicle while the rest died.

A video showing residents in frantic effort in search of the occupants with the hope of removing their bodies from the SUV has made the rounds online.
