Emefiele was accused of illegally purchasing 43 vehicles between 2018 and 2020 valued at N1.2 billion. Additionally, he allegedly awarded a contract for 37 Toyota Hilux Vehicles worth N854 million. One charge stated that Emefiele, while serving as CBN Governor, granted undue favor to Sa’adatu Ramallan Yaro, a CBN staff, by awarding a contract worth N854,700,000 to April1616 Investment Ltd., a company in which Yaro was a director. Similar accusations were made regarding a Toyota Avalon worth N99,900,000 and a Toyota Landcruiser V8 valued at N73,800,000, both awarded to the same company. The allegations also included awarding contracts to Yaro for two Toyota Hilux Shell Specification Vehicles costing N44,200,000 in 2020. The case is adjourned until November 22 for a ruling on Emefiele’s bail application and November 28 for the trial’s start. In the interim, the court ordered Emefiele’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre. A suit filed by a woman, Mrs. Tega James against her husband, Mr. Lucky James, over allegations of fraud, has been dismissed at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State. Mrs. James had accused her husband of defrauding her of the substantial sum of N71 million (Seventy-One Million Naira). Mr. Lucky James, aged 47, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate L.A. Owolabi of the Samuel Ilori Court in Ogba, Lagos State, on October 4, 2022. The case gained significant attention due to the substantial amount involved and the nature of the allegations.

However, in a Certified True Copy of the judgment dated February 2, 2023, and made available to The Punch on Thursday, Justice Owolabi dismissed the case against Mr. Lucky James. The dismissal was based on the fact that Mrs. Tega James, the plaintiff, had agreed to withdraw the case against her husband. The judgment issued by Justice Owolabi read in part; “This ruling is predicated on the application for the withdrawal of the charge by the complainant, James Amanda Tega. “The prosecutor led the complainant in evidence to confirm her intention and whether she indeed intended to withdraw the complaint leading to this charge against the defendant. She confirmed on oath that she wants to withdraw the complainant leading to this charge. “I have reviewed the uncontroverted oral evidence of James Amanda Tega and am satisfied that the complainant intends to withdraw the complaint leading to this charge against the defendant. Accordingly, charge number MIK/E/61/22 be and is hereby dismissed, dated this 2nd day of February 2023.” As a result of the dismissal, the court has cleared Mr. Lucky James of the charges, and the case will not proceed any further.

The Police in Adamawa have arrested a girl and her boyfriend who allegedly killed their baby and dumped the body in a dustbin on July 8, in Yola. The suspects, Blessing Ben and Luka Iliyasu were said to have been in courtship for two years before the girl got pregnant.

The suspects According to SP Suleiman Yahaya-Nguroje, spokesperson of the Police Command, “Blessing was put in a family way by her boyfriend, Luka a resident of Police barracks Yola, after two years of courtship”. He told newsmen in Yola on Tuesday that Blessing who resides in Jambutu area of Yola North Local Government Area, had however denied killing the baby, claiming that it was delivered prematurely. “I had a safe and peaceful delivery but the baby was lifeless hence my decision to dump it in the dustbin. “When I discovered that it was a stillbirth, I kept the corpse for two days before I dumped it in the dustbin and even my aunt whom I have been living with did not know that I was pregnant for nine months,” she told newsmen. In other news, a four-day-old child survived a terrible tragedy that occurred during a family’s first night in their new home in Nkwelle Ezunuka, Oyi Local Government Area, near Onitsha, claiming the lives of Ifeanyi, his wife Amaka, their two children, Amaka’s mother, and an apprentice, due to poisonous fumes from a generator, leaving only their four-day-old baby as the sole survivor. The incident happened on Thursday night, July 20, 2023. The family was happy and celebrating in their new house when suddenly the electricity went off. To keep the celebration going, Ifeanyi quickly set up a generator outside the bedroom. As the night went on, the family went to sleep without turning off the generator. Sadly, the fumes filled the house while they slept, and they couldn’t wake up the next morning. A friend who was supposed to join them that night went to their house but found the doors locked and the generator still running. The friend alerted other neighbours, and they forced open the door. Inside, they found the family unconscious. Tragically, Ifeanyi, Amaka, their children, and Amaka’s mother had already passed away. The apprentice was also among the deceased.
