The Kwara State Fire Service has recovered the lifeless body of a 18-year-old girl named Waliyah from a domestic well in the Ile-Olodo Ita Merin – Alore area of Ilorin West Local Government Area. The incident took place around 6 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. According to reports from Daily Trust, the young lady, Waliyah, allegedly jumped into the well unexpectedly after engaging in a friendly conversation with her neighbours in the compound. The incident left residents in shock and disbelief.

The dedicated personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service successfully recovered her lifeless body and respectfully handed it over to Alhaji Adisa Akanbi Magaji of Ile Olodo, Ita-Merin, Ilorin.” the statement read. Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, emphasized the importance of safety consciousness to the general public. He issued a stern warning to parents and guardians, urging them to refrain from sending their children to fetch water from domestic wells.

The barber who was nabbed in the state capital of Ilorin was detained on Monday due to the death of a girl who was apparently having sex with him. The event occurred on Monday, at a guest home in the Temidire neighborhood in the Offa Garage neighborhood of the city. It was initially reported that the middle-aged guy, who is believed to run a barbershop, went for a relaxing evening with his girlfriend. An unconfirmed report from members of the community also alleged that the man was under the influence of drugs with the aim of impressing his girlfriend before the experience turned sour. After confirming the event, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that a thorough inquiry had been launched by the police. “The incident is true. The state police command has arrested the man involved while full investigations have commenced to know what actually happened between the man and the deceased”.

Madami explained to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the decision to cancel the results aligns with the regulations governing the election process. He attributed the delay in the arrival of INEC officials and materials to certain parts of Ilorin West and subsequent disruption in the commencement of voting at the Registration Area Centre (RAC). “It took us up to 11a.m. before will finished the distribution of logistic and immediately I knew we are starting late. I extended the time of voting until the last person on queue voted”, he said According to the REC, ballot boxes were stolen from just one out of the 2,887 polling units in Kwara, indicating a low incidence of such incidents. Additionally, the commission did not utilize vehicles belonging to any of the political parties participating in the election to distribute materials, contrary to rumours.
