Popular actor, Emeka Ike’s ex-wife, Suzanne Emma addresses the allegation that he assaulted his mother, as she tells her side of the story. Amidst their divorce drama, Emeka Ike’s brother, Victor Ike had taken to social media to allege that the actor’s wife had at one time in the past, assaulted their mother by beating her.

While speaking in the recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, she said that Emeka Ike’s mother had accosted her mother and began accusing her of stealing her son’s money. Suzanne said that Emeka Ike’s mother tore her clothes off and searched for the supposed money which she never found. According to Suzzane, they left the mother that way without touching her. She said that Emeka Ike’s sister had later come the next day to accuse her (Suzanne’s) mother of beating her (Emeka Ike’s) mother, but she explained to her that it such never happened. Suzzanne alleged that Emeka Ike’s mother later told her that it was her son, the actor, who was propagating the idea that she, Suzzane, had beat her up. The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy Ohanenye had ordered the immediate arrest of Mr Ebong in reaction to the viral video. She added that the lawyer would face prosecution even if the wife refused to press charges because his action is gender-based violence. Taking to her account on the X platform, the Minister wrote: “This remains one of the most insane and unbelievable scenes one has seen in the brutalization of women. As I have always emphasised, this is a ‘Renewed Hope’ government and such an act can not be allowed in our country. “On that note, the federal Ministry of Women Affairs @FMWA_ng has ordered the arrest of this demonized lawyer Mr Ebong, who must face the law squally and I promise this act can not be swept under the carpet. “Even if the woman decides she doesn’t want her husband to be sued, due to family pressure. the man must face the law as justice will have its way.” His arrest has, however, been confirmed as seen in a photo making rounds on social media barely a day after the violent assault.

An 18-year-old boy identified as Michael Segun has been arraigned before the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a security guard with planks and bottles. The incident took place on June 1, 2023, at Larryem Hotel in Abule Egba, Lagos. Segun, an unemployed teenager from the Captain area, was charged with conspiracy and assault. During the court session held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, before Chief Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, Police Prosecutor ASP Raji Akeem presented the case against the defendant. Akeem alleged that Segun, in the company of his friends, brutally assaulted Mr. Shettima Ibrahim, a security guard at the hotel. The assault reportedly occurred after Ibrahim rebuked Segun for smoking Indian hemp within the hotel premises. According to the prosecutor, the complainant was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention. The offences committed by Segun are said to contravene Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him. In response, Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted Segun bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties required to provide a similar amount. The case has been adjourned until August 2, 2023, for mention, as the legal process continues.

DJ Maphorisa, a popular South African music producer, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Thuli Phongolo. According to reports, the incident occurred at Phongolo’s apartment in Sandton, Johannesburg. Phongolo, who is also a club DJ and an actress, reported the incident to the police and made a statement at the Sandton police station.

She claimed that the assault started after she confronted Maphorisa about their argument the previous night. “He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” Phongolo said in her statement. The actress also alleged that her boyfriend took her phone during the assault, but later returned it. She then contacted her manager, who took her to the police station to open a domestic abuse case against Maphorisa. Maphorisa is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for justice to be served. In a statement, the South African Police Service (SAPS) urged victims of domestic abuse to come forward and report cases to the police. “We condemn all forms of violence against women and children, and we encourage victims to come forward and report these cases to the police. We will do everything in our power to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement read.

A UK-based Nigerian student, John Nwadiaju, bags an 11-month prison sentence and is suspended for one year for violently assaulting and abusing his wife, Kosisochukwu Echem. John who is a student at Bangor University in North Wales, United Kingdom, was on Friday handed the sentence, along with 250 hours of unpaid work by the Caernarfon Crown Court. According to the North Wales Chronicle, Nwadiaju and Echem married in Nigeria in April 2022 but separated in August 2022 following reports of domestic abuse and violence. Echem visited him in Bangor in the hope of reconciliation, but Nwadiaju allegedly took her passport and Personal Independence Payment card and repeatedly assaulted her. Police arrested him at the scene, and bloodstains were found on his person and property. Despite claiming self-defence, Nwadiaju was found guilty, and Judge Nicola Saffman sentenced him to 11 months in prison, suspended for one year, and ordered him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work.

CSP Adejobi, the spokesperson of the Nigerian police force, has responded to a video that has been circulating online, depicting police officers assaulting a man in Port Harcourt.

The video shows a police officer assaulting a man with a stick and later slapping him before forcing him into a vehicle parked within the premises. In his response to the video, the Police spokesperson expressed his disappointment and stated that he had instructed the Rivers State command to identify and bring to justice the officers involved in the harassment.
