National Chairman of APC, Adamu resigns following alleged gang up against him

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly resigned from his position following an alleged gang up against him by people around President Bola Tinubu to embarrass him during a meeting of the party slated for tomorrow and Wednesday. It was gathered that the former governor of Nasarawa State, Adamu tendered his resignation on Sunday night, July 16 in the absence of the president.

He sent the letter to the Chief of Staff of the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, around 4 pm on Sunday. “He has resigned. The resignation letter signed by him has been sent to the villa. The letter was addressed to President Tinubu. But since the president is away in Kenya for the AU meeting, the letter was sent to his chief of staff,” a source said Also, a source close to Adamu reportedly corroborated this, adding that: “The national chairman resigned following a gang up by people around the president to embarrass him during the meetings of the party slated for tomorrow and Wednesday.” The source, however, denied a report that it was President Tinubu that asked Adamu to resign ahead of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party slated for tomorrow and Wednesday. The party had fixed July 10 and 11 for its National Caucus and NEC meetings to iron out critical issues affecting it and the crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC). However, the meetings were later postponed and rescheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday. A founding member of the party said Adamu resigned when he got wind that two influential personalities around the president had mobilised against him ahead of the meetings. “He resigned because they have started to collate signatures to impeach him during the forthcoming meetings. President Tinubu emerges as ECOWAS chairman

During the 63rd Ordinary Session of ECOWAS, President Bola Tinubu was elected as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government. The session took place in the capital of Guinea-Bissau, Bissau, on a Sunday afternoon, 9th of July, 2023. There are strong indications that the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, may be removed from office following his disapproval of the principal officers of the National Assembly announced by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Tuesday. Multiple sources told Vanguard that Adamu’s position on the principal officers was considered a defiance of President Bola Tinubu’s wishes, as the National Assembly leadership reportedly got the support of the presidency before making announcing the officers.

APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Recall that Senate President, Akpabio announced Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, Dave Umahi, Ali Ndume and Lola Ashiru as Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate respectively. Similarly, Abbas named Julius Ihonvbere and Kingsley Chinda as the majority leader and minority leader respectively in the House of Representatives. They both represent the APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Peeved at the development, the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee, NWC, of the APC immediately disowned the announcement, saying the party had not officially communicated with both presiding officers of the national legislature. He said: “The essence of today’s invitation is simply to rub minds with you as a matter of courtesy. You will get an update on the National Assembly, sharing of powers, particularly the leadership of the chambers. “The election of the Senate President and Deputy Senate President; the election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives have been determined and they have now assumed their responsibilities. “The remaining offices at the two chambers are yet to be done. I had a courtesy call on Saturday from the President of the Senate and his deputy. The following day which was Sunday, I received a visit from the Speaker and his deputy coming to me for Sallah’s homage. “But I am just hearing rumours now from the online media that there have been some announcements in the Senate and House of Representatives. The national headquarters of the party or the NWC has not given any such information or communicated about the choice of the remaining offices and until we formally resolve and communicate to them in writing which is the normal practice as had been done before we came here, it is not our intention to break away from tradition. “So, whatever announcement is done either by the President of the Senate, Deputy Senate President, Speaker or Deputy Speaker, is not from this secretariat.” A party source, who spoke in confidence, said: “Adamu was wrong to have spoken the way he spoke and that the principal officers of the National Assembly emerged after wide consultations with relevant stakeholders. “Also, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni observed that it was as if stakeholders of the party were all working at cross-purposes. He expressed concerns that even the NWC appeared constantly divided. He, therefore, pleaded with Adamu to seal all cracks and ensure that everyone is on the same page.” Following Adamu’s disapproval of the principal officers, sources hinted to Vanguard that the APC chairman may have bitten more than he can chew. It was gathered that the President is currently shopping for Adamu’s replacement and will make his position known when the party holds its National Executive Committee, NEC, on July 11.

Osun LP suspends chairman over misappropriation of funds

The Labour Party leadership in Osun state has suspended the party’s Chairman, Adebayo Bello over alleged misappropriation of N34 million fund. The ward 12 executive members of the party led by the Chairman, Hammed Sheriff, while briefing journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, said the suspended Adebayo also failed to attend ward meetings of the party without cogent reasons.

Having given himself a very bad reputation among the Obidients, Candidates and Party leaders, he had to rely on the goodwill of LPPCC to get people/polling unit agents to submit Form EC8A after the elections. And before the LPPCC decided to work with him, he promised that those who submitted these forms would be compensated. “After submission, he was thereafter given a million to pay polling unit agents that submitted Forms EC8A. Now the leaders of LPPCC are being chased around by those who submitted these. Forms, while Bello had collected and cornered their funds. “Today, the State Working Committee, the Labour Party candidates and the 31 local government chairmen have passed a vote of confidence on the national legal adviser of the party Barrister Akingbade Oyelekan and the state acting chairman Mrs. Suzan Ojo. And the said suspension by Bello is a nullity because he has been suspended by the Bauchi NEC executive. Therefore, he should know that it is against the constitution of our party to act the way he acted, he cannot use illegality to axe the substance of law”, she added. Reacting, Bello said his suspension cannot stand as ward 12 of Osogbo local government does not have a substantive executive committee to suspend him, saying even their tenure as acting executive members has expired. “With regards to funds, I am not aware of any N34 million, the only fund I received was N300,000 sent by Akin Osuntokun and it is verifiable. I am not aware of any fund during the presidential campaign rally in the state”, he added.

Following the suspension of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele and that of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Abdulrasheed Bawa, Nigerians on social media space are calling for the arrest and prosecution of the former Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, alleging that he also indulged in corrupt practices while in power. They also called on the president to arrest the former minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika over his involvement in the establishment of Nigeria Air which has been tagged as a fraudulent act by some lawmakers. Explaining the reason behind Emefiele’s suspension, the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey disclosed that the suspension of the CBN governor was based on an ongoing investigation as well as planned reforms in Nigeria’s financial sector. On Bawa’s suspension, Willie Basse said was based on weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him and also to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office. EFCC gets new Acting Chairman hours after Bawa’s suspension

A few hours after President Bola Tinubu suspended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, Mr Abdulkarim Chukkol has been appointed as Acting Chairman of the Commission. Recall that following weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him, Bawa was on Wednesday suspended and directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission pending the conclusion of his investigation. The new acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr Abdulkarim Chukkol However, in a new development on Thursday, the EFCC in a statement shared on its official Facebook page stated that Mr. Chukkol is the new Acting Chairman of the Commission. According to the statement, Chukkol is a consummate and vastly experienced investigator with a speciality in cybercrime and money laundering. Until this new role, Chukkol was the Director of Operations of the Commission. The Department of State Services (DSS) said the suspended Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has arrived at its office for questioning. Bawa is at the DSS office over allegations of abuse of office brought against him.
The Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. Suspended EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa “The DSS has invited Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the EFCC and he arrived a few hours ago. “The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him,” he said. President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday approved the indefinite suspension of the EFCC Chairman from office. A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation said the suspension was to allow for a proper investigation into his conduct while in office. The statement said the suspension followed weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against the suspended EFCC boss. It directed Bawa to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director of Operations in the commission, The statement said the director would oversee the affairs of the office of the chairman, pending the conclusion of the investigation. Recall that former president Muhammadu Buhari appointed Abdulrasheed Bawa as substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bawa took over from Mohammed Umar who was then in acting capacity since July 2020 after the suspension of Ibrahim Magu over allegations of corruption.

AIT chairman Raymond Dokpesi is dead

Chief Raymond Dokpesi, the Chairman of Daar Communications (AIT) and politician passes away on May 29th, 2023. Dokpesi, who was a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reportedly died in Abuja at the age of 71.

Source: Google Images According to a source who spoke with The Punch correspondent, he suffered a stroke and succumbed to it while receiving treatment at an Abuja hospital. The stroke occurred after the conclusion of the recent Ramadan fast. Following the stroke attack, Raymond Dokpesi had been undergoing medical management and occupational therapy to enhance his daily functioning, but his demise came unexpectedly.
