Jesus did didn’t get his credit while alive, so who am I to complain – Burna Boy

Nigerian Grammy-winning artist, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, recently expressed his belief that he doesn’t receive sufficient recognition for his talents, despite being regarded as “the best in the world.” The artist made these remarks during a conversation with Nigerian-British show promoter Adesegun Adeosun Jnr, also known as Smade, and podcaster Adesope Olajide, popularly called Shopsydoo, after his performance at the Afronation festival in Portugal.

Smade, effusively praising Burna Boy, lamented the lack of credit the artist receives, calling him “the f*cking best in the world.” In his words; “Burna, you keep blessing us mehn. No, you don’t get your credits enough bro. You’re the f*cking best in the world.” In response, Burna Boy drew a comparison to Jesus, suggesting that even the revered religious figure did not receive due recognition until after his death. He said; “No, I don’t [get enough credits]. Jesus also didn’t get his own credits till he died, so who am I? [Laughs]” Shopsydoo, further expanding on the conversation, asserted that the focus has shifted from solely promoting Afrobeats music to achieving worldwide dominance in the music industry. Shopsydoo added; “It’s not about Afrobeats anymore, it’s about worldwide domination.” This sentiment highlights Burna Boy’s aspiration to expand his influence beyond the boundaries of a specific genre and establish himself as a force to be reckoned with on a global scale. Burna Boy’s claim of insufficient credit resonated strongly among his fans and sparked discussions within the music community. While some agree with his viewpoint, others argue that his talent has been widely acknowledged, considering his Grammy win and international recognition. See below;

Photo credit Chacha recounted a horrible incident that happened at the Ritz Hotel in Enugu, when she broke everything, damaged the entire establishment, and reduced her family’s possessions to just what they were wearing. In her words, “To be frank if the disorder that I have been battling with didn’t sufficiently disgrace me to the point that it has, chances are I won’t be here championing. My psychiatrist was my biggest nightmare, I wish I could kill him because it was him for the first time after years of man!c episodes, after years of violence, it was from his mouth I heard the name of what was wrong with me and I was pained. I felt an ugly experience in Enugu in the Rit Hotel where I smashed everything, wrecked the whole hotel, and reduced everything that my family had to only what we were wearing. I went untreated. Two years we came to Asaba and I had another manic. This time I wrecked the whole house. It was a habit, at some point we didn’t have house properties because it was only a matter of months before I wreck it. He took me to FDAH and after some days, he came and gave me the verdict, the diagnosis. I didn’t like taking drugs so I flushed them down the toilet when they discharged me. I had another relapse and they put me back in the hospital”.

“APC governors didn’t allow senators make their choices” ― Ned Nwoko

10th Senate: "APC governors didn't allow senators to make their choices" ― Ned Nwoko

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District has accused governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, of intimidating members of the party and not allowing senators on the party’s platform to make their choices in the June 13 National Assembly leadership election. Speaking with newsmen weekend at his Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government Area, country home during a reception in his honour, Nwoko alleged that the election was not peaceful as it appeared in the public space.

10th Senate:

Senator Ned Nwoko He said, “It might have been peaceful, just like the duck or the geese. When you see the geese in the water floating, you think there is peace, but when you look under the water, you will see the legs going fast. “They say the more you look, the less you see. Yes, the election of the President of the Senate and Deputy Senate President appear to the ordinary people outside that everything was peaceful but it wasn’t fair because APC governors were there intimidating APC members. “They didn’t allow them to make their choices. Many Advisers to the President were there intimidating those they can intimidate, but the bottom line is that it was an APC contest; contest between APC and APC. “If it were the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and APC or Labour Party and APC, I am sure things would have been done differently; so the other candidate for APC, Yari, accepted the result, didn’t he? “Four years is a long time, there are many banana peels. The PDP leadership didn’t make their presence felt, which is regrettable, but l am hoping that in the next few weeks, once we have our principal officers, the Minority Leader, things will begin to take shape.” Nwoko also promised to “work for the people in every sphere, in every sector, in every area, whether it is collective or individual interest we will make sure we make sure we address them from health to education to roads to employment and empowerment of the youths.”

Model laments after being rejected on set for not being light-skinned

The video director was accused alongside his artist by a model who was rejected because of her skin colour says model didn’t match the storyboard. Recall that a young model identified as Ewa took to her page online to lament after she was rejected at a movie set for not being light-skinned.  Video director replies model. Photo credit: Ewa. Source: Twitter According to the model, the artist selected her for the shoot. However, upon getting to set for the shooting, the artist changed his mind saying she can not shoot because he wanted a light-skinned model. The lady tweeted, “8 am on Sunday, I left my house in Ikeja to the set of my at Lekki. Some minutes after noon, the artiste arrived on set and said he changed his mind. He wants a light-skinned model because my skin tone ‘doesn’t fit the aesthetic’. In response to the accusation, the video director has disclosed that the model wasn’t rejected because of her skin colour but because she did not match the storyboard and vision of the video shoot. According to the video director, he checked all the portfolios of the models for the shoot before he selected them but realized that Ewa, the model who called them out did not fit the vision for the video shoot hence had to drop her and look for a new model. He however debunked the allegations that the model was rejected due to her skin colour. He tweeted, “This is such a heartbreaking and false narrative. As a video director, I carefully selected models for this shoot (through an agency) based on their online portfolio and pictures but the reality was starkly different. The model didn’t match the vision or the storyboard. so I had to make the difficult decision to request another model. This had nothing to do with skin color, as I value diversity and inclusivity. I even took out time to speak to her and compensated her for her time. It’s disheartening to see this narrative being twisted into an issue of skin color. Let’s focus on celebrating talent, professionalism, and the power of visual storytelling.” so I had to make the difficult decision to request another model. It was gathered that over 40 artists had been contracted to perform at the event which held in M.K. Abiola Stadium in Abuja. The Zazoo crooner had been noticably absent among the list of performers and this had raised questions, especially since the singer had once campaigned for the APC. Reacting to these questions, Portable reminded inquirers that he had been the one who sang a campaign song for the politician.

“Some politicians lost elections because they didn’t have money to share”

GistReel

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says that many politicians lost the elections because they didn’t have available money to share. According to the EFCC, due to the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), a lot of politicians did not have enough cash to share with the voters during their campaigns. EFCC Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media and Publicity of the antigraft agency made this disclosure while speaking at an event. According to him, many politicians lost during the elections, because they did not have money to share to electorates. He stated that the naira redesign has been able to prevent corrupt politicians from buying votes. “The violence during elections was caused by the unavailability of cash which was the CBN’s naira redesign policy because politicians could not buy votes. Some politicians lost elections in their strongholds which could not have happened because they didn’t have the cash to share.” Uwujaren said.
