"Why I chose to respond to Yvonne Nelson with only diss songs" – Sarkodie

Renowned Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, a.k.a. Sarkodie, has given reasons why he didn’t make an official statement in response to actress Yvonne Nelson’s allegations but had chosen to react with diss tracks. You may recall that Sarkodie, Iyanya and Tonto Dikeh had been dragged into a messy scandal when the actress revealed several secrets in her book, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’.

As regards Sarkodie, she had claimed that the rapper had impregnated her and denied to be its father, which made her abort the child. Through the media frenzy that had followed the revelation, Sarkodie had been relatively mute on the matter and never did release any official statement. He had instead chosen to address her claims by releasing diss tracks. In one of the songs, he had repudiated her claim by explaining that he wasn’t ready to be a father at the time, but had told Yvonne Nelson to keep the baby. In a recent chat with American host Angela Yee, he said that he didn’t want to go on media runs because he might lose control while speaking on the matter.

He said; “The reason I didn’t do any media run or press around it [Yvonne Nelson’s allegations] is because I might lose how I would like to present what I feel about it. This is not the first time. I have done records to address certain issues, or maybe a line or two in a record. There is a certain energy I hate to fill into, especially speaking about it because I might lose my cool. “With this situation, I’m not going to say I’m super proud of everything. The thing is just in a moment how I felt whether be my truth there should be a way I would have said it. “That is why I don’t like to speak about it. This is a conversation between two people. We could have a conversation if you want to talk about it because it involves me as well. But because people know Sark doesn’t speak, people think they can say something and know Sark is not going to speak and they are gonna get away.”
