He said; “The party that has not complied with the provisions of the electoral act cannot be said to have a candidate in an election and cannot be declared winner of an election; this being so, the votes credited to the 1st defendant is a wasted vote.”

Proceedings of presidential election tribunal begins

The proceedings of the presidential election petition tribunal begin in Abuja on Monday to address petitions against Bola Tinubu‘s victory in the 2023 presidential election. Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who represent the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), respectively, are contesting the declaration of Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential poll. Atiku is seeking a fresh election due to alleged irregularities at polling units, while Obi claims that Tinubu failed to win the majority of lawful votes and did not receive one-quarter of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Obi also accused Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, of being unqualified to contest the election due to election misconduct.

Davido, usually vocal on political issues, had not shared his views on the election, leaving his followers guessing. However, in a recent Channel4news interview, he disclosed that he supports himself as a leader. The artist acknowledged that the elections had been challenging for Nigerians and expressed happiness at the reception of his latest album, “Timeless.” When asked about other artists who had spoken out during the election, Davido refused to criticize them for their silence. He noted that everyone has different views, and some may not feel equipped to handle political activism. The artist’s revelation shows that many Nigerian celebrities are actively interested in politics, with fans and commentators urging them to use their influence to drive change. Despite some hesitance from some quarters, Davido’s statement demonstrates that he is willing to engage in political discourse and even suggests that he has aspirations beyond his music career. “The elections were tough. It was a tough period for Nigerians. I’m happy that I drooped the album and it was accepted. I know people are still going through a lot in the country and everybody knows that even in the past I have been vocal about politics.” he said. Speaking about other artists who were vocal about the election, he said: ” I don’t blame. Some people have families, and children. Do you understand? Some people are built for it, some people are not and I can’t blame anybody. I’m sure everybody has their views personally, you know? And if you dint want to talk about it, it’s obvious where you stand.” Speaking of the leader he is supporting, he said: ”Myself, I’m a leader myself” Watch the video below:

Chimamanda slams US and UK for congratulating Tinubu, calls election flawed

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Notable Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie criticized the US and the UK for congratulating Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite the flawed elections.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Adichie wrote an open letter to US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, citing reports of widespread violence, ballot box snatching, voter intimidation, and other electoral malpractices that occurred during the February 25 poll. In an article published in The Atlantic on Thursday, Adichie also mentioned that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to fulfil its promise to upload election results from polling units in real-time via its result viewing portal. Chimamanda noted that the congratulatory statement from the US State Department itself acknowledged that Nigerians were frustrated with the flawed process. She urged Biden and Rishi not to endorse the results of an undemocratic process and to take action towards the current state of Nigeria. Chimamanda slams US and UK for congratulating Tinubu, calls election flawed Chimamanda Adichie’s Open Letter to US Biden and UK’s Rishi “How surprising then to see the U.S. State Department congratulate Tinubu on March 1. ‘We understand that many Nigerians and some of the parties have expressed frustration about the manner in which the process was conducted and the shortcomings of technical elements that were used for the first time in a presidential election cycle. “And yet the process was described as a “competitive election” that “represents a new period for Nigerian politics and democracy.” “American intelligence surely cannot be so inept. A little homework and they would know what is manifestly obvious to me and so many others: The process was imperilled not by technical shortcomings but by deliberate manipulation. “I hope, President Biden, that you do not personally share this cordial condescension. You have spoken of the importance of a “global community for democracy,” and the need to stand up for “justice and the rule of law.” “A global community for democracy cannot thrive in the face of apathy from its most powerful member. Why would the United States, which prioritizes the rule of law, endorse a president-elect who has emerged from an unlawful process? “I hope it will not surprise you, President Biden, if I argue that the American response to the Nigerian election also bears the faint taint of that word, compromised, because it is so removed from the actual situation in Nigeria as to be disingenuous. “Has the United States once again decided that what matters in Africa is not democracy but stability? (Perhaps you could tell British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who quickly congratulated Tinubu, that an illegitimate government in a country full of frustrated young people does not portend stability.) “Or is it about that ever-effulgent nemesis China, as so much of U.S. foreign policy now invariably seems to be? The battle for influence in Africa will not be won by supporting the same undemocratic processes for which China is criticized.”

I've won an election before without the help of Peter Obi -Alex Otti says

Governor-elect for Abia State, Alex Otti has said that he has won an election in the past without the help of Peter Obi.

Alex Otti

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Labour Party’s Alex Otti the winner of the Abia governorship election a few days ago after the residents of Abia launched a street protest against the delaying of the declaration of results from INEC. Following his win, Otti mentioned in an interview on Channels TV that it was clear that in 2015 he won the governorship election in the state without Peter Obi’s support. He said, “In 2015 when I ran under APGA, there was no Peter Obi. And we have it on our record that I won that election. At the time we were joining Labour Party, Peter Obi had not joined. It took about a week before called me and said that he purchased the presidential nomination form and he was coming to Labour Party.

“We were prepared to fight the way we fought in 2015. The votes we garnered in Abia could have been had but maybe the margin could have been smaller. That is why it’s always good to acknowledge Peter Obi. He came to Abia about four times to campaign for us. “I think he had done well for us. That is why even in the first election out of the eight House of Representatives seats we took six and sent some people on permanent retirement. “Peter Obi is a great addition to our campaign, but I can tell you that we won an election before in Abia without him.”

The British High Commission on March 22, 2023, revealed that it plans to take appropriate measures against them. The statement released by Andrew Mitchell MP, the UK Minister of State for Development and Africa, declared that sanctions, such as prohibiting people from acquiring UK visas or imposing human rights sanctions, could be imposed. “We can confirm that we are collating relevant information, with a view to taking action against some individuals. “We witnessed and received credible reports from other observer missions and civil society organisations of vote buying and voter intimidation, the destruction and hijacking of election materials and the general disruption of the process in numerous states including Lagos, Enugu and Rivers. “In addition, we observed incidents of harassment of journalists.
