The community of Imo State is in mourning following the brutal murder of 25-year-old Ogochukwu Viola Anele. The young graduate of Imo State University was laid to rest on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in her hometown of Umuori Umuafai in Dikenafai Ideato South Local Government Area.

She was found lifeless in a man’s house located in Ikeduru Local Government Area on February 7, 2023. The reason for her presence in the suspect’s house and the motive behind her alleged killing have yet to be determined. Cosmas Anele, Ogochukwu’s grieving father and a retired individual, revealed that the police demanded a payment of N60,000 before they would accompany him to the crime scene and the mortuary where his daughter’s body was deposited.

Ogochukwu, who worked for a payment company, failed to return home on Tuesday, February 7, despite assuring her mother earlier in the day that she would be back. They kept vigil, called her phone repeatedly, but received no response The following morning, Mr. Anele embarked on a search for his missing daughter. He reported her disappearance at the nearest police station and also sought assistance from the Department of State Services (DSS), hoping that Ogochukwu might be among those detained there. Unfortunately, she was not found. While on his way to the Police Station on Mbaise Road, Mr. Anele received a call from his other children, informing him that someone had answered a call made to Ogochukwu’s phone. The call originated from the Police Station in Iho, Ikeduru local government area, further heightening his concerns about his daughter’s whereabouts. Upon arrival at the station, Mr. Anele was directed to the State Criminal Investigations Department, where he was confronted with the devastating news of his daughter’s murder by the officer in charge. He requested to see Ogochukwu’s body to confirm her identity. However, he alleges that the police demanded a payment of N60,000. Despite attempting to negotiate a lower amount, his pleas were reportedly rejected.

Blood was splattered across the floor, belonging to his beloved daughter. Overwhelmed by grief, he broke down and wept. It later emerged that the man accompanying them on the trip was the occupant of the room and the alleged murderer. Subsequently, Mr. Anele was escorted to the mortuary to view Ogochukwu’s remains.

AAUA graduate stabbed to death over N1,000 debt
A graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Akoko (AAUA) has been stabbed by an indigene over a debt of N1000. The deceased, who has been identified as Temitayo, was reportedly stabbed with scissors in the late hours of Thursday, April 6, around Ebenco filling, opposite Akua junction, Akungba. Some passersby’s rushed to Aduloju Hospital where he was stabilize for a few hours. However, he became worst due to the injuries he sustained. According to the University’s Student Union, Temitayo had intervened dispute between an “Egbon Adugbo” and a third party who owned the Egbon Adugbo an amount of N4000. However Temitayo promised to settle the bill for the latter. Temidayo was able to reimburse the perpetrators 3000 naira out of the 4000 naira but was unable to pay the remaining 1,000 naira outstanding which resulted into an argument causing the death of the fresh graduate. “A guy (the third party) was owing them money,” the source said “and he told them (the perpetrators) that he will help the guy to pay the money to avoid drama. So he paid 3k out of the 4K and couldn’t raise the last 1k. So they started disturbing him and he said they should stop disturbing him that he did not owe them that he only rendered a help and this afternoon(today) a guy came into the villa.” “As usual they acted as Egbon ADUGBO to collect money. So he said he can’t give them, which led into an argument as if they’d meant to deal with him … and they came from nowhere to stab him after a lot of arguments and they scattered the villa with bottles and spoiled our gate”, the student Union told the Gazette.

Recall that Whitney Adeniran lost her life during an inter-house sports event at Chrisland High School. Sharing a photo of her daughter, the grieving mother wrote:

A young man has recounted the shocking way an incident which was on the surface bitter, turned out to be for his good in the long run.
The man identified as, Oyiga Michael had been saving up his allowance in order to take his girlfriend for a date.
They’ve were waiting for a shuttle by the road when a car pulled up and the driver began chatting with his girlfriend.
To his surprise, the girlfriend was responding eagerly to the motorist’s questions.
They ended up in the man’s car, who took them to an eatery, footing both of their bills.
After they had finished their meals, the man took them back to the hostel, dropped the lady off and collected her number; he dropped the guy off at his hostel and squeezed in five thousand naira into his hands.
The guy, after crying about all he has just gone through decided to use the five thousand naira to get himself materials and become serious with his studies.
