The Ekiti State government has kicked against the planned 72-hour-kissing marathon in the state in an attempt to set Guinness World Record. The governor, Biodun Oyebanji, was in shock on Wednesday when a group identified as Sugartee released an advert stating its intent to embark on the longest world kissing marathon in a popular amusement park in the state capital on July 7.

Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji Reacting to the development, the state Ministry of Arts and Culture in a statement released today July 5, banned the scheduled competition of the marathon and warned all Hoteliers in the state not to allow their premises to be used for such exercise. The state government warned that heavy sanctions will be placed on any hotel found to permit such an exercise in their facility. The letter signed by the Director of Tourism Adebanji Adelusi on behalf of the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dele Ogunsemoyin noted that the planned event tagged ‘Kiss-a-thon ‘ was capable of denigrating the image of the state. The letter read, ‘’Kiss-a-thon” as an event is not only absurd, unhealthy, immoral and capable of denigrating the image of the state, it is a programme that runs counter to the values of the people of the state and therefore capable of plunging our Youths morally backwards. “In view of the foregoing, the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism hereby prohibits the hosting of such event or any other events like it in any facility that wishes to continue to operate lawfully in Ekiti State. “To the above, you are hereby requested to convey the content of this Notice to the members of Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association to effectively monitor their outlets against being used negatively to cause embarrassment to the Government and People of Ekiti State.”the statement read

Recall, days ago, it was reported that the chef was denied by Guinness World Records after the board made it clear that Dammy never sent an application. The board said: “We have not received an application for this attempt. Applications can be made via the Guinness World Records website for our records management team to review. “Once an application is accepted, the record claimant receives a set of detailed guidelines specific to that record category that must be adhered to. “This also details a list of evidence that must be submitted for our team to verify the record. Guinness World Records maintains a rigorous review process to maintain the integrity of each Guinness World Records title.” However, in a new development, it was confirmed that Dammy has now sent an application to the Guinness World Records. According to Guinness World Records PR manager, Madalyn Bielfeld, they are now in possession of Dammy’s application. “I can confirm that Chef Dammy has now made an application. We will ensure she understands the process and method to submit the evidence. We will then reviews this quickly”, he said.
