Governor Rotimi Akeredolu Ade Adetimehin, the Ondo State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, has urged the people of the state to keep praying for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who has been dealing with health problems lately. Adetimehin accused the opposition parties of allegedly politicising the health condition of the governor, pleading that what all the people in the state needed at present were prayers for the governor to recover quickly.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu The chairman stated this on Sunday while speaking in Akure, the state capital. According to him, the health issue of the governor was not so serious that he would not be able to resume his official position as governor of the state. He said, “Some individuals and groups have taken it upon themselves to spread false news and rumors about his (Akeredolu’s) death. It is disheartening to see that some people would wish death upon a fellow human being. Such actions are unfair and should be condemned by all well-meaning individuals. “The opposition has also been quick to malign the governor’s family, accusing them of not doing enough to take care of the governor’s illness. Such accusations are falsely disrespectful, flippant and callous. “What Arakunrin Akeredolu and the family requires at this period is our support and prayers for the full recovery of their family patriarch. Arabinrin Betty Akeredolu and her children have been doing their best in taking care of the governor. “We must continue to pray for the governor’s recovery and stand by the family in these difficult times. Akeredolu is a good man who loves the downtrodden and deserves all the support and prayers for a full recovery from his illness.”

Ejimakor tackles IPOB’s chieftain over Nnamdi Kanu's health

The Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Aloy Ejimakor, on Saturday, tackled IPOB’s chieftain, Chika Edoziem over his statement that two medical doctors are banned from visiting Kanu in detention of the Department of State Services, DSS, facility in Abuja. Ejimakor who condemned the statement said that the Biafra agitator directly assigned the task of getting an independent medical doctor that would attend to him, noting that Edoziem was endangering Kanu’s life by preventing medical doctors from having access to the IPOB leader. Ejimakor tackles IPOB’s chieftain over Nnamdi Kanu's healthMazi Nnamdi Kanu In a statement on Saturday, Ejimakor said, “My attention has been drawn to a defamatory press release presently in active publication and circulation, signed and distributed by one Chika Edoziem, purporting to be leader of IPOB Department of State, stating that he has banned me from visiting my client, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS where he is being detained extrajudicially and unconstitutionally. “Additionally, in the same press release, the said Chika Edoziem stated that he has banned me from taking independent doctors to the DSS to visit Mazi Nnamdi Nnamdi Kanu for the purpose of making an independent assessment of his present health care needs. In the same token, the said Chika Edoziem uttered warnings, grave threats, innuendoes and false allegations against my person and the Kanu family. “First, let me make it crystal clear that, according to the court order on visitations with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, it’s Mazi Nnamdi Kanu alone that possesses the sole power and discretion to choose whoever he desires visitation from. “No other person can choose or impose visitors on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, not even the DSS, the Nigerian government, the courts, the IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyers or relatives. Therefore, this Chika Edoziem and his ilk have no place in this matter of who is approved to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, be it his lawyers, his doctors or his relatives. “Second, it’s also Mazi Nnamdi Kanu alone that has the power to invite a medical doctor of his personal choice to have a visitation with him. He had done it in the past – in August 2022 to my knowledge, and even as the visitation was mysteriously blocked at the last minute, my efforts and follow-up with the doctor generated the very first and only independent medical opinion that is being used today by all his lawyers and others in advancing his cases and pressing for the urgent medical attention he required since the rendition. “For avoidance of doubt, it was Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who directly assigned this task to me as part of my complex brief as his Special Counsel and as part of the all-round efforts to garner the urgent independent medical care that he requires. “There’s nothing in this critical task that made it necessary that this matter of health which has been urgent and herculean must be exclusive to just one person and that my humble self and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s family should be excluded from matters concerning his health.” The special counsel stressed that the same publications suggested that Edoziem unwittingly admitted that he and his ilk were part of the grand conspiracy that had blocked the two doctors chosen by Kanu to visit him on 6th June 2023, just because he was the lawyer that had – as part of my brief and Instructions – prepared the Letter of Introduction the DSS had demanded for the visitation at the last and critical minute. He said, “This is shocking and ominous to say the least but leaving that aside for the moment, let me sound this note of warning: When you block independent Medical Doctors from visiting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu even when you knew that it was him that personally choose those Doctors and invited them, you must know that you are deliberately endangering his life. Think about it. “More so, it is pertinent to drum it home that it is inherently evil for anyone to use the life-and-death matter of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s health to settle phantom scores with his family or any of his lawyers. “So, going forward, any person who is still walking this dangerous path should be well-advised to cease, desist and pedal back. If you persist, the gutsy Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the whole world knows will soon stop you, because it is so wrong and he doesn’t play with his health like you are doing at the moment. “Finally, the highly publicized and sensationalized statements by this Chika Edoziem and his ilk that my humble self, the Kanu family and the two Doctors that were blocked on 6th June constitute danger to the life, health and safety of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been noted in stone and will be dealt with at the forum and place of my choosing. In the meantime, I am dealing with the private threats issued against my person and family on account of such grave accusation.”

UK stops recruitment of Nigerian health workers

UK stops recruitment of Nigerian health workers

The UK government makes a decision to cease the consideration of Nigerian health workers for recruitment due to the country being placed on the red list of nations that are not eligible for recruitment. UK terminates recruitment of Nigerian health workers This resolution is made after the World Health Organisation (WHO) identified Nigeria as one of the 55 countries facing significant challenges in terms of the health workforce. As per the UK government, health and social care employers will no longer actively seek recruitment from these countries, unless a government-to-government agreement is in place. This is expressed in a statement on the website of the UK government titled ‘Code of Practice for the international recruitment of Health and social care personnel in England’. “Consistent with the WHO Global Code of Practice principles and articles, and as explicitly called for by the WHO Global Code of Practice 10-year review, the listed countries should be prioritised for health personnel development and health system-related support, provided with safeguards that discourage active international recruitment of health personnel. “Countries on the list should not be actively targeted for recruitment by health and social care employers, recruitment organisations, agencies, collaborations, or contracting bodies unless there is a government-to-government agreement in place to allow managed recruitment undertaken strictly in compliance with the terms of that agreement. “Countries on the WHO Health Workforce Support and Safeguards list are graded red in the code. If a government-to-government agreement is put in place between a partner country, which restricts recruiting organisations to the terms of the agreement, the country is added to the amber list.” In 2021, the United Kingdom halted the recruitment of healthcare workers from Nigeria and 46 other nations. This decision was made due to the rising number of health and social care worker migrations from low and lower-middle-income countries, which poses a threat to the achievement of their health and social care objectives. As per data from the UK General Medical Council, there are presently 11,055 doctors who have been trained in Nigeria practising in the UK.
