A passenger who caused a commotion by expressing anti-Tinubu sentiments on a Lagos-bound Ibom Air flight has been remanded in the Kuje prison by a Magistrate Court in Abuja.

The anti-Tinubu passenger, Obiajulu Ujah, will remain there for one month while medical experts assess his mental health. Ujah is currently facing a criminal charge in case number CR/08/23, filed by the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. Magistrate Abdulazeel Ismail Muhammed of the FCT Magistrate Court ruled on Thursday in Zuba Magisterial District. “Having scrutinized the medical report dated 17th day of April 2023 and signed by Dr Olusegun Shoyombo, a consultant psychiatrist, I am of the opinion that the defendant cannot defend himself,” he said. Muhammed utilized Section 278(3) & (4) of the ACJA, 2015 due to the urgent need for medical attention. The section states that if the court is unconvinced of the defendant’s ability to defend themselves, the trial will be postponed, and the individual may be remanded for a maximum of one month. During this remand, a medical officer will oversee the defendant and provide a written assessment of their mental state before the end of the period. If the medical officer is unable to form a definite opinion, they will inform the court and request a further remand of up to three months. “From all these, the need to prevent the risk of jumping treatment and having found that Kuje Correctional Facility has the requisite medical personnel, I hereby order that the defendant be remanded for medical observation for one month,” Muhammed said. According to the magistrate, the Federal Government of Nigeria will bear the cost of the necessary medical treatment for the defendant, as provided by the medical personnel.

The Bishop of Lagos-based Reign Christian Ministry, Daniel Oluwefeyiropo (also known as Feyi), has been placed in Kirikiri prison after being arraigned for allegedly raping two members of his church.

On Monday, he was brought before Justice Ramon Oshodi at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court. Oluwafeyiropo had previously been charged with two counts of rape, but he pleaded not guilty. The alleged incidents occurred in June 2020 at Ikota Villa Estate in Lekki, Lagos, and according to the prosecution, violated Sections 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of  2015. Justice Oshodi granted the defendant ₦20 million bail and required two sureties to post bail for him. “The original document of the landed property must be submitted the chief registrar of Lagos State. The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State,” he said. The judge additionally ordered Oluwafeyiropo to hand over his international passport to the chief registrar of the court and expedited the trial.

An Ondo State Magistrates’ Court remanded Emmanuel Adebayo, a 56-year-old pastor in a correctional centre over the alleged murder of Toyin Olatunji, his 50-year-old tenant.

The incident occurred on April 4, 2023, at No.14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala, Akure, during a quarrel between the defendant and the female tenant. The pastor allegedly pushed the victim, causing her to become unconscious, which eventually led to her death. The prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, applied to the court to remand the defendant in correctional custody, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP). The defence counsel requested an adjournment to enable his client to file a counter affidavit to the prosecutor’s application. Magistrate Tope Aladejana granted the prosecutor’s application and ordered the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until April 27 for a ruling. The defendant is said to be a pastor in a Christ Apostolic Church. The offence is said to contravene Sections 316 and 310 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.

On Monday, February 13th, she was detained pending the outcome of her bail request, facing allegations of tampering with Naira currency notes. She was brought before Judge Chukwujekwu Aneke and charged with two counts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). One of the counts reads, “that you Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin on the 28th day of January, 2023 at Monarch event center, Lekki within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court whilst dancing during a social occasion tampered with the sum of N100,000.00 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same in the said occasion and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.” The second reads, “that you Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin on the 28th day of January, 2023 at Monarch event center, Lekki within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court whilst dancing during a social occasion tampered with the sum of N100, 000.00 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by dancing on same in the said occasion and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.” The defendant pleaded not guilty and as a result, the prosecution counsel, S.I Sulaiman, requested a trial date and requested that the defendant is remanded in Kirikiri prison. Judge Aneke postponed the decision on the bail request until Wednesday, February 15, 2023 and ordered the defendant to be held at Kirikiri correctional facility.

Latest reports from the UK now has it that the Westminister Magistrate Court in London has remanded Sen Ike Ekweremadu in Jail after today’s court session.
According to reports from Arise News, the victim who was previously claimed to be 15 years old admitted to actually being 21 years old.

Legal Counsel for the Ekweremmadu couple denied that there was exploitation or an intent to exploit the alleged victim.
The Case has now been adjourned till August 4th, and The Ekweremadus are to remain remanded in custody until the next hearing.
Recall that Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested by the London Metropolitan Police on the 23rd of June over an alleged human trafficking and organ harvesting which violates the UK’s Modern Slavery Act.
The police authorities accused the Ekweremadu Couple of conspiring to bring a child from Nigeria to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting, the police has reported the child to be a 15-year-old boy.
The Nigerian High Commission in the UK has sent a delegation to attend today’s court session.
Some of Ekweremadu’s colleagues in the Nigerian Senate are also in attendance for the court session including former Senate President David Mark, current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Adamu Bulkachuwa and former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Also in attendance is former Minister of State for Education and one time APC Presidential aspirant Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.
