There’s a growing concern about Arsenal losing their star midfielder, Thomas Partey, to injury after he was forced off at half-time during Friday night’s FA Cup defeat against Manchester City. The Ghanaian footballer took a knock to his ribs during the first 45 minutes of the match which ended 1-0 in favour of Manchester City. Addressing reporters after the game, Arteta revealed that Partey had been playing through the pain before eventually having to be replaced at the break. The footballer will now undergo an MRI scan to know the severity of the injury. He said; “He had some discomfort and it was getting worse and worse. He could not continue. No initial diagnosis. Tomorrow, or the day after it will have to be an MRI scan and we’ll see what he has.”
Donny Van de Beek’s season is over after horror knee injury
Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek won’t be featuring in any match for the club for the rest of this season after suffering a horrific knee injury. The footballer picked up the injury during a Premier League clash against Bournemouth on January 3. This came off a challenge from defender Marcos Senesi. Speaking ahead of the Manchester derby, Red Devil’s coach Erik Ten Hag revealed that Van de Beek has been ruled out of the season. He said; “It is his knee. On the long term it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season. The rest of the season he is out. Everyone has thoughts with him it is terrible. It was a bad tackle, a bad injury. “Our thoughts and feeling are with the player. We are building something good and you want to be part of it but because of that injury he is now out. The good news is that in the long term he will be back and his knee will be stable.” Sharing an update on his injury, Van de Beek wrote on Instagram; “I am really disappointed that the season is over for me. “After successful surgery, it’s time to start my recovery process and will do everything to come back stronger for this club. “Thank you all for the lovely messages, they mean a lot to me and my family.”
Virgil van Dijk out for over a month after suffering hamstring injury
Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that one of his defenders, Virgil van Dijk, will be out for “more than a month” after picking up a hamstring injury.
Virgil van Dijk was substituted in the first half of Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Monday, January 2.
Though Klopp initially suggested the issue was not a serious one, subsequent tests revealed a significant muscle strain which would keep the defender out of action until mid-February.
Giving an update on Van Dijk, Klopp said;
“Virg was a surprise for us, obviously, a big blow. He didn’t feel a lot. I took him off, actually, no risk.
“In the end, the diagnosis was pretty harsh, but we talk about weeks – more than a month. I hope it goes quick, but for now he is not available. That’s how it is. We have other centre-halves, as long as that’s the case everything is OK for the team.
“But for Virg, it’s harsh. He played an incredible amount of games over the last years. [Now] we cannot use him on the pitch at least. Off the pitch, we will do that.”
Reece James suffers another injury setback
Reece James who couldn’t play for England at the 2022 World Cup due to injury, has suffered a short return to Stamford Bridge following another injury he picked up in the 53rd minute of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Bournemouth yesterday, December 27.
Before his return on Tuesday, James suffered a serious knee injury against AC Milan in the Champions League on October 11.
Though the World Cup break gave him enough time to recover and return to full fitness, the 23-year-old was replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta after being hobbled off 8 minutes after halftime.
Speaking after the match which ended 2-0 in favour of the Blues, Chelsea’s manager Graham Potter said;
“I’m not sure on the state of the injury. Too early to say. You can see his quality. It’s a blow for us. Fingers crossed. We’ll see how bad it is.”
Fofana suffers another knee injury during Chelsea’s friendly against Brentford
Chelsea’s new signing, Wesley Fofana was forced off a friendly with Brentford on Tuesday, December 20, after suffering a knee injury.
Fofana, who is Chelsea’s summer signing from Leicester, has been out of action since October due to injury but had been close to a comeback.
Si Phillips reported that the defender who couldn’t finish the behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford due to a knee injury, will now undergo tests to determine the severity of the injury and his new club will be hoping he is not side-lined for long.
Since being signed for a record fee of £75 million, Wesley Fofana has only managed two Premier League appearances so far for London-based club, Chelsea.
