Manchester City considers replacing Kyle Walker with Achraf Hakimi

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola could reportedly push for a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi if Kyle Walker leaves the club. The 24-year-old has been identified as the perfect replacement for Kyle Walker as Pep Guardiola bids to set his side up for a future defence of the three major honours they spectacularly claimed last season. It’s been suggested that the Cityzens could offer Walker a new deal, but recent reports have claimed that the former Tottenham Hotspur man is now closing in on a switch to Bayern. Should Walker move on from Manchester City, Marca reported that Achraf Hakimi is Guardiola’s number one choice to replace him amid uncertainty over his PSG future. The 24-year-old shone for Christophe Galtier’s side last season with five goals and six assists from 39 games in all tournaments, winning the Trophee des Champions and Ligue 1 title in the process. Hakimi is not due to become a free agent for another three years, but his representative Alejandro Camano recently refused to rule out a move elsewhere for his client following another last-16 Champions League exit for Les Parisiens. As well as Walker, Man City are expected to wave goodbye to Joao Cancelo, who spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Bayern after becoming a bit-part player for Guardiola. Cancelo made a positive impression at the Allianz Arena with one goal and six assists in 21 matches, but Bayern are not expected to take up their offer of a permanent deal. Barcelona boss Xavi has confirmed that he would be interested in bringing Cancelo to Camp Nou, while Arsenal have also been tipped to make a move for the Portugal international but have apparently turned their attention to Ajax’s Jurrien Timber instead.

Kyle Walker is closing in on a move to Bayern Munich with talks ongoing between the German giants and Manchester City. The 33-year-old English footballer has one year left on his deal at the Etihad and could be leaving City this summer after being left on the bench for the Champions League final win over Inter Milan earlier this month.

Bayern Munich are keen on the right-back with manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly a big fan of his mentality. Initial talks between the player and the club have been held. The Bundesliga giants are on the lookout for a new right-back amid speculation that Benjamin Pavard could leave the club. This is coming after experimenting with City’s Joao Cancelo on loan last season. The German champions are reportedly unlikely to take up Cancelo’s €70-million option to buy. The English international evolved into one of Pep Guardiola’s most versatile defenders during their time together at Eastlands, using his pace on the right of a three-man defense to keep opponents from exploiting City’s high line. He’s won five Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups, and one Champions League title in six years spent in Manchester. It could be a busy summer for Man City with Josko Gvardiol, Declan Rice, and Mateo Kovacic all linked with moves to the Etihad. City could also lose some high profile players. There are doubts over the future of the club’s captain Ilkay Gündoğan, whose contract expires at the end of this month. Portuguese footballer, Bernardo Silva could also leave the English club.

In spite of the draw, Southampton is just two points from safety and five behind 12th-place Crystal Palace with 12 matches to go. After the match was concluded, Kyle Walker-Peters suffered an array of racist abuse on Instagram. The 25-year-old had not posted for a week, but some individuals went onto his last post to insult the right-back. Having received an array of racist messages in the form of language and monkey emojis, Walker-Peters was also targeted with other types of hate, which included posts that wished him injury. Comments were visible on Walker-Peters’ Instagram account for over eight hours and were still on there on Monday morning. Southampton condemned the racist abuses in a statement released on Monday, March 13. It read; “In February 2021 the club made a statement about one of our young players receiving abhorrent racial abuse following a match against Manchester United.

“More than two years on, we find ourselves in the exact same position: disgusted and disappointed in the behaviour of those online who lower themselves to abusing players for the colour of their skin. “What is equally frustrating is the lack of meaningful action in those two years from the social media platforms who allow such hatred to breed and fester. “As we have said before, Southampton Football Club fights every day to remove such people from our sport and our community in order to protect our players, our staff, Southampton fans and those football supporters around the world who recognise and celebrate the diversity that makes football special. “We have forwarded the messages concerned to Hampshire Police in keeping with our normal processes when dealing with these cases. We have also reported these posts to the social media platforms involved. “We can only hope that they finally pay attention to what continues to be a major problem and that we do not find ourselves repeating these words in another two years time.”

“It’s a private issue, we solve it internally, speak with him. This is not the place to speak about a private situation.” When asked if players need to be more careful now when they are out in public, Guardiola said; “Definitely. It’s a bit different now. They know it. When you open the door at home they need to know they will be filmed whatever they do. That is society.” Walker, who has four children, has been married to model and reality TV star Annie Kilner since November 2021. The couple, who were childhood sweethearts, have three sons together, Roman, Riaan, and Reign. They previously met when Waker was 19 years old and Kilner was 16 and were together for over nine years, splitting in May 2019 before later getting back together.
