“Nigeria lacks selfless leaders committed to national interest” ― Peter Obi

Democracy Day: "Nigeria lacks selfless leaders committed to national interest" ― Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the February 25 general election, Mr Peter Obi has claimed Nigeria as a country lacks selfless leaders committed to national interest, sustainable development and innovative thinking that offers every Nigerian freedom of choice of abode, protection of lives and property and ordered liberties. Obi in a post via his official Twitter page joined other stakeholders to celebrate Nigeria’s  Democracy Day, while lamenting that it is regrettable the country is now in an era where foundational pillars of democracy are undermined by prevalent impunity and pervasive violence and bloodletting. The presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi Obi noted that the collective choice of late Chief M. K.O Abiola as a worthy leader for the nation was saluted by Nigerians and governments and peoples across the world, pointing out that June 12 underpins Nigerians’ long collective journey to nationhood as a true democracy. Part of his statement read, “Our collective choice of late Chief M. K.O Abiola as a worthy leader for the nation was saluted by Nigerians and governments and peoples across the world. Therefore, June 12 underpins our long collective journey to nationhood as a true democracy. “However, the current state of our politics tells a different story. Our democracy is deeply troubled while our nation’s destiny remains uncertain and precarious. We remain a nation in search of solutions to too many basic problems. “Above all, the government must respect and protect the institutions of the democratic state by respecting the social contract with the people by meeting their needs, obeying their wishes and fulfilling the responsibilities of responsible governance as contained in the constitution. A cardinal responsibility of the government in this regard is respect for the rule of law. “Regrettably, we are now in an era where these foundational pillars of democracy are undermined by prevalent impunity and pervasive violence and bloodletting. The trust deficit between the leaders and Nigerians continues to expand. “The deficits of trust and efficiency in our last elections demonstrate this malady quite boldly. The challenge of June 12 and a dedicated Democracy Day is to inspire us to correct the errors of our recent elections. “This is the surest way to restore the confidence of our people in the future of our nation and the promise of true democracy. I however urge us all not to lose faith in the inbuilt design of our democratic system to self-correct. “Personally, I remain committed and convinced that a New Nigeria is possible. Our aspiration for a nation of equity, justice, security and peace can hardly be utopia. We are a nation blessed richly with human and natural resources. “What we lack are selfless leaders who are committed to national interest, sustainable development and innovative thinking that offers every Nigerian irrespective of ethnicity, religion or social strata, the freedom of choice of abode, and protection of lives, property and ordered liberties. “These aspirations are real and achievable, and I hereby reiterate my promise to Nigerians that we will not relent in our fight to bring about a leadership that will accord them the priority they deserve.”

She wrote on her page, “I don’t know how much you think I get paid. Hence, your team will come up with this conclusion. What have you people ever done for me as a government? NOTHING!!! I have single-handedly raised my kids & so many others, plus myself without a single denial from the government. Yet you feel so entitled to reaping over 100% from where you did not sow. I have worked, and I’m still working tirelessly to survive in this country without the support of the government, but….” “You can gladly come n close down my business, arrest me, jail me, or kill me for all I care …. we all will die one day & I will never be afraid of what will eventually be everyone’s faith… what I do not have I can not give .” In an Instagram live video, Iyabo Ojo disclosed that a close source has disclosed to her that she is being attacked because she threw her weight behind the candidate for Labour Party, Peter Obi. In a new post sighted on her page, she emphasized that she cannot be shaken or bullied because she will never bow to any tribal bigots. “I stand & re stan obediently on my beliefs. I can never be pressured or shaken. I will never bow down to tribal bigots… I want a better Nigeria, I don’t care whose ego gets bruised. We can not all believe in the same thing. I see no tr!be. I only see my country. I’m a Nigerian… I am not afraid of death, for that is inevitable. I will never be afraid to air my opinion, for that is my right…
I have no enemies. We may not all believe in the same course, we may not see things the same way but you’re not my enemy bcos at the end of the day, either, good or bad. We’re in together. We’re all citizens of Nigeria.
I have empathy for my country & not for stomach infrastructure. If after 8 years Nigeria has renewed hope, then my beliefs may change, but till then, I obediently stand on my beliefs.
If you didn’t make me, you can’t break me, you can take the body but never my soul”.

Presidential Tribunal as  Mr Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, who claimed that the 2023 presidential election was rigged, presented 136 more documents before the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, on Friday. The exhibits, which were admitted as evidence by a five-member panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, included presidential election results from six federation states.

Photo Credit: @peterobigregory: Instagram Adamawa, Bayelsa, Oyo, Edo, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom were the states to whom the court acknowledged their presidential election results contained in Forms EC8A. Obi, who finished third in the presidential race, told the court that the results he presented were certified authentic copies obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission or INEC. He tendered election results from 115 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Rivers, Niger, Benue, Cross River, Osun, and Ekiti on Thursday. The petitioners received permission from the court to submit new results from six LGAs in Rivers State, which were acknowledged and labelled as Exhibits PB 16 to PB 21 at the resumed proceedings on Friday. However, INEC said that the additional Rivers State results were “strange” to it. Also Read: “Peter Obi is my president” — Aisha Yesufu insists, calls President Tinubu an impostor Mr Kemi Pinhero, SAN, who led INEC’s legal team, informed the court that the Commission would state its reasons for opposing the results’ acceptance in its final written address. Similarly, counsel for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN, as well as counsel for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, objected to the results being admitted into evidence. The responders stated that they would save their reasons for disagreeing with the election results in their final written address. Following that, Obi and the LP presented to the court new results from Bida LGA in Niger State, which were allowed as Exhibit PE 24. Whereas the court admitted results from 21 LGAs in Adamawa state and labelled them Exhibits PH 1 to PH 21, it also admitted presidential election results from 8 LGAs in Bayelsa state and labelled them Exhibits PJ 1 to PJ 8. The court accepted results from 31 LGAs in Oyo as Exhibits PK 1 – PK 31, while results from 18 LGAs in Edo state were marked as Exhibits PL 1 – PL 18. The petitioners also presented presidential election results from 20 LGAs in Lagos state, which were acknowledged as Exhibits PM 1 – PM 20, as well as results from 31 LGAs in Akwa Ibom state, which were admitted as Exhibits PN 1 – PN 31. Related: Tinubu’s Inauguration: Peter Obi finally breaks silence Although Obi won the presidential election in Lagos state, he claimed in his appeal that there was widespread voter suppression in the state and that electorate who would have voted for him were openly harassed or intimidated. Meanwhile, the Justice Tsammani-led panel unanimously reversed its previous decision to resume the hearing on Saturday. Even though the lead counsel for the petitioners, Dr Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, stated that his team was prepared to appear before the court on Saturday, lawyers for all of the respondents took turns begging the court to postpone further hearings of the matter until the next Monday, a request the panel granted. Obi and the LP have already made it known that they plan to call a total of 50 witnesses. Obi specifically claims in the joint petition he filed with the LP that President Tinubu was not the legitimate victor of the election. President Tinubu was not eligible to run for president, according to the petitioners in CA/PEPC/03/2023. According to the petitioners, Tinubu’s running mate, Shettima, was still the APC’s nominated candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial race when he became the Vice Presidential candidate. The petitioners also disputed Tinubu’s eligibility to run for president, asserting that he had previously been charged with dishonesty and drug trafficking and fined $460,000 by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, in Case No: 93C 4483. The petitioners claimed that because INEC disregarded its regulations and guidelines and engaged in fraudulent practices, the election was invalidated and in breach of the Electoral Act of 2022. The Petitioners contended that, during the presidential election, the electoral body was legally compelled to prescribe and deploy technological equipment for the accreditation, verification, continuation, and authentication of voters and their personal information. As a result, they are asking the court to declare, among other things, that all votes cast for Tinubu and the APC were squandered as a result of his ineligibility/disqualification.

Court berates Peter Obi over unpreparedness in petition against Tinubu’s victory

The presidential election petition court criticizes the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for their lack of preparedness in the petition filed against President Bola Tinubu‘s victory. During the court session on Thursday, one of the senior lawyers representing the petitioners, Emeka Okpoko, attempted to submit electoral documents as exhibits. However, it was observed that these documents had not been properly filed and scheduled before the court, THE CABLE reported.

However, upon reconvening, the petitioners’ legal team still appeared disorganized. This dissatisfaction led Haruna Tsammani, the leader of the five-member panel presiding over the court, to advise the petitioners to request an adjournment to allow them to properly arrange their documents. “What we have done today is a waste of time. I think you underrated the kind of job you have to do,” one of the justices said. In response, Awa Kalu, another experienced lawyer representing the petitioners, stated that they would not be accepting the adjournment proposed by the court. “I took an adjournment yesterday and I would not like to do that today,” Kalu said. Subsequently, the issues were resolved, and the petitioners successfully presented electoral documents (form EC8As) from six states. These states include Rivers with 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs), Benue with 23 LGAs, Cross River with 18 LGAs, Niger with 21 LGAs, Osun with 20 LGAs, and Ekiti with 16 LGAs. In the petition filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party, a total of 83 witnesses have been identified to testify, representing both the petitioners and the respondents. The petitioners have indicated their intention to call 50 witnesses, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed five witnesses, while President Bola Tinubu and Governor Kashim Shettima have listed 21 witnesses, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has listed seven witnesses. The court has set specific dates for each party to present their case. Obi and the Labour Party are scheduled to prove their case from May 30 to June 23, INEC from June 24 to June 29, Tinubu and Shettima from June 30 to July 5, and the APC from July 6 to July 10. The adoption of final addresses is set for August 5. At this point, only one witness has been called by the petitioners during the proceedings.

It is about whether someone was voted in. Erdogan might be a dictator to the rest of the world but he was chosen by his people.
Tinubu on the other hand is an impostor who stole people’s mandate through rigging and violence,” she added.

Responding to a question related to the inauguration in a Twitter Space on Sunday, Obi said he would not back down in the fight to secure “his mandate”. In his words: “I didn’t start this journey in a single day; I knew it’s not going to be easy. The inauguration will strengthen me. I know how dampened you are that your effort did not come the  way you wished. We are in a battle with an entrenched establishment. We are in a long battle. Even me, I know that the journey ahead is tough; they will make allegations, blackmail and all sorts of things, but I am ready. “I thank you for your sacrifice and I ask that you do not feel dampened. Thanks for the sacrifice; thanks for being part of this greatness. Please as we go through this pain, let us stay together. Let us do the right thing. Nobody can claim to be a saint, I am not. I could have done something unknowingly in the past. I plead that you stay focused. This is about transformation which takes time.”

Zik Zulu reveals the cause of death of Saint Obi

GistReel

Filmmaker Zik Zulu has revealed that his dysfunctional marriage and his inability to see his children caused the death of actor Saint Obi. According to Zik Zulu in a lengthy write up on Facebook, disclosed that when Saint Obi was about to marry, none of his close friends were aware. They only got to find out that he was married which he described as strange. zik zulu According to him, after Saint Obi married his wife, he started distancing himself from his close friends. Zik Zulu emphasized that the marriage of Saint Obi took him away from his friends, his life and his acting career. Read his lengthy post below. The Marriage And Death Of Saint Obi His social life was blunted. Perhaps by his reticent disposition. His persona, two dimensional. To a distant public, he was upscale and cool . His manly bearing spoke loud. His onscreen image ironically amplified some idiosyncrasies ; heroics, romantic adventures and traits that did not gel with the mortal privacy that eerily define his quiet and lonely life. Saint Obi, real name, Obinna Nwafor, was shy, almost bordering on timidity and insecurity. He cherished the pleasantly tranquil interactions among a few friends. He would vanish at any outburst that could upset the poise of such small meetings. As he repeatedly told me, he just wanted to live a cool, quiet and fulfilled life. But, has he lived this cool and fulfilled life he envisioned ? I have my doubts. I tell Saint’s story here with painful tears in my eyes ; because he was a star, a super star whose life turned out a gleam of irony . Yet, it was this stardom that fetched him his much professed financially strong and powerful wife . And their wedding, that solemn ritual of love would drastically alter the cause of his life and tragically yank him off the creative community that threw him up for the wife to capture and indeed conquer. Their marriage was at best a dramatization of love. It was quick. He barely told us that he found a wife . Then, the marriage happened. It was something of a mystique, only those involved understood the histrionics that played out . None of us who were his closest pals, who walked with him through the crucible to the crest of his career in Nollywood, none of us was invited. The distance between us and the guy I admirably called Saint of the Storm had begun .

Saint obi

This gulf would widen with each year. We saw him perhaps once in a year after this marriage. And life actually seemed to have given him a fair shake of the dice. He dressed well, drove big cars and even his skin, in literal lingo, spelt wellness. The Saint would be blessed with three beautiful children. But not on one occasion were his friends in Nollywood invited for christening or birthday. We were told that his wife was of the topmost hierarchy in telecom giant, MTN . But even if their celebrations were designed to be a rendezvous of the elites of the technocracies that his wife chiefly belonged, you expected that Saint would reach out to a few of his fellow creatives, for even if they would herald his small beginnings , there could be no tinge of shame to it because we all have our journeys and our stories. And even at that, the actor or cineaste in Nollywood is by no means poor. But more tragic is the fact that his marriage did not only take away Obinna from his friends, it took him away from Nollywood. Saint stopped acting, absconded from his career and perhaps his calling. It would seem prognostic now. Yes, because I recall leaving my house in Lagos Mainland for his massive office in Lekki, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was about six years ago. There, I demanded to know why my friend abandoned our industry. He told me with his usual shy expressions that he wanted to focus on some other businesses and also to work behind the camera. Because his visage was unconvincing to me, I told him in stark terms, that whatever his new vision and pursuits, he must not abandon the trade that made him who he was. It took another three years for Saint to return to his homies. But when he did, some of the deeply disappointed ones sniggered behind him. This was because the simmering rumours of cracks in his marriage had hit home. And though secretive in his ways, he knew it was time to open up. And he did. ” I do not know why my wife’s sibblings see me as a gold digger. They confront me, harass and fight me in my own matrimony. And my wife did nothing to stop them. I work hard, I earn my money . I have never depended on my wife “, he lamented, eyes blurred with tears. You could tell he was in deep pain. By the next visit, the Saint returned with a deep cut from knife on his left eye. His wife’s brothers, he said , scaled the wall fence of their house to attack him. They were captured by hidden closed-circuit television, CCTV, installed for surveillance and security, he revealed. He reported them at the police station and subsequently acquired a gun to defend himself. This effectively marked the beginning of the end of his marriage and perhaps Saint Obi’s long walk to a sad end. He moved out of his marital home to a new house to begin the reconstruction of his destiny, alone without his wife and worse still without his three beautiful children. Meanwhile, his wife went to the police to defend her siblings using her financial power to manipulate the cause of justice, Saint stated unequivocally. The wife also sued for divorce, not in Lagos, but in Ogun state. As Saint put it, “It was to make the journey difficult for me. But I will not bend neither will I break. I will fight with my last blood to take custody of my children. They love me and they know it will be hard for me to live without them. The divorce is not an issue. My marriage has long been over “, he said with a mix of courage and a quaky heart that betrayed his distress. About mid last year, however, Obinna took ill. But he told no one. He simply became scarce. He was in and out of hospital, we would later learn. He sold two of his three big SUVs to take proper care of his health and to acquire six Camry cars he’d use for Uber. But his vanishing health continued unabated. He seemed to have a premonition of his own passing as he wept repeatedly about not seeing his children. He emaciated. Life took a grim picture. When I saw him by chance in January 2023, the dude called Saint looked 15 years older than his age. His macho cut had shrunk. His fat wallet was gone. What was left was only his fat will. His eyes seemed lost in their socket. This would be the last time I would see him. Saint snuck out of Lagos to hang in with his sister in Jos. He told no one. But a month ago, in April precisely, the once delightful actor who brought joy to many a home broke his icy silence. He called our mutual friend in US to give him a devastating message. He was on a deathbed, he said and wanted our friend to pray for him. ” It’s not looking good, pray, pray for me “, he appealed passionately. His next call came on May 1, 2023. This time to his mentor, the man who made him a star with his productions, Zeb Ejiro, OON. He told him with a wavering voice that he had had three surgeries but was still in hospital in Jos. He averred again that his situation was not looking good, that he is also in a deep pain, distressed that he could not see his children. But still he begged him not to tell anyone about his ailment. Such was the life of this creative hermit, a lonely trouper. I was the first to hear the news of his death late on Sunday, May 7. Having confirmed it, I called Zeb Ejiro . ” I have a very bad news my brother, Zeb “, I began. ” What is it, what is it, “, he asked anxiously. “A big star has fallen in Nollywood “. Zeb broke down in tears. I hadn’t said who it was. But sobbing helplessly now, he said, ” Don’t tell me it is Saint Obi “. Sadly, he was right. May his soul find peace.
