The President of TAMPAN (Theatre Arts and Movies Production Association of Nigeria), Bolaji Amusan also known as Mr Latin reveals why the group does not make provisions to help sick and struggling actors in the movie industry. Despite having spent over N10 million on health-related matters affecting actors, Mr Latin has claimed that TAMPAN is always willing to assist. During a recent interview on 32FM in Ibadan, he clarified that the association cannot support certain sick and struggling members because they are not members or are inactive. Mr. Latin clarified that these actors, who are ill, frequently avoid seeking help from TAMPAN out of embarrassment and instead turn to the internet, radio, or television for assistance since they realize they were not active members. As a result, the group is unable to offer them help. “We always come to the aid of all active members. Since I became the TAMPAN President, we have spent more than N10 million on the actors’ health challenges. “The ones you see going on radio or TV to beg for money are not active members of the association,” he said.

In the interview, Mr Peter Obi had said that he knows for certain that he would be the president of Nigeria. “Anyone who thinks I am on a transit is wasting his time. Let me tell you, I must be the president of this country. I am sure of that. If it is not today, it must be tomorrow. Other people who want to be, should come and tell us what they want to do, and how to do it. This is my country, I don’t have dual citizenship. If anyone thinks I am going to run away from Nigeria, they are lying. “I have three engagements in Anambra and Lagos today. I will be speaking in Lagos tonight. We will not leave Nigeria. I am not in a hurry to become the president, but I know it must happen,” he said.
Mocking his insistence on being president, Bashir Ahmad described it as pipe dreams. “So, Daddy’s favorite son insisted that he MUST be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We wish him sweet dreams!,” Bashir Ahmad wrote.
Former U.S President Donald Trump found guilty of sexually abusing writer
A New York jury on Tuesday, May 9, found former President of the United States of America Donald Trump liable Tuesday for sexually abusing and defaming an American former magazine writer, E Jean Carroll in the 1990s. Carroll had accused the former US president of sexually assaulting her in a New York City department store in the mid-1990s and then defaming her by dismissing her story told in a 2019 memoir as a “con job”.
The nine-member which awarded Ms. Carroll about $5 million in compensatory and punitive damages, however, held that the ex-president did not rape her. The jury determined that Carroll proved her sexual abuse case by a preponderance of the evidence and awarded her $2 million. The six men and three women on the jury also said Trump should pay Carroll nearly $3 million for defamation. The judgment is a huge blow to the 76-year-old’s campaign to retake the White House in 2024. The writer held hands with her lawyers as the verdict was read on Tuesday. She left the courthouse smiling and wearing sunglasses, before entering a car without speaking to reporters. Trump, who did not attend the New York trial has lashed out at the judgement, describing it as “a disgrace” and “a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time”. The frontrunner for the Republican nomination in next year’s presidential election wrote; “I have absolutely no idea who this woman is. This verdict is a disgrace — a continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time!” Mr. Trump’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, told reporters the jury’s decision to rule in Carroll’s favour on the rape claim was “perplexing” and “strange”.
His spokesman, Steven Cheung, said on Tuesday that the former president would appeal. This means he will not have to pay the awarded damages so long as the verdict is being challenged in court. The former president still faces so many legal issues, including criminal charges in New York relating to a hush-money payment made to a porn star in 2016 and a Justice Department investigation into his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

“Alaafin of Oyo prayed for Tinubu to be president on his deathbed” — Monarch’s son
The late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III expressed his desire for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to become the next Nigerian president on his deathbed, according to his son.
The monarch died on April 22, 2023, after a brief illness at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital. A year after his passing, his son Akeem Adeyemi shares their conversation, in which the Alaafin emphasized his wish for a Yoruba presidency and specifically supported Tinubu for the role. Akeem made this known in an interview with The Punch. “You won’t believe it but the last thing he said to me was, “Skimeh, bawo ni oro oga yin o?’’ He asked me how my boss’s ambition was progressing. He told me that Asiwaju Tinubu must become Nigeria’s President and I told him to rest, and that was the last thing we spoke about before he died,” the monarch’s son said. According to Akeem, who is a member of the Federal House of Representatives, the late Alaafin’s last visitor before his passing was Tinubu, and the traditional ruler had also visited 27 Yoruba monarchs to discuss the prospect of Tinubu becoming president. Akeem stated that Alaafin prayed for Tinubu’s success and urged the people of Oyo and Yorubaland to support him wholeheartedly. “I’m telling you this now. Many people will read this interview. Kabiyesi visited more than 27 Obas in their palaces to talk about Asiwaju’s emergence as Nigeria’s next President. He met Akirun of blessed memory. “He met Awujale. The last Oba that visited Kabiyesi before he died was Oluwo of Iwo, and the discussion was about Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added. “His last wish was to see the next President of Nigeria as a Yoruba man and not just any Yoruba man; he was particular about Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu being President. He continued; “He saw Asiwaju as a discoverer of talents, someone who’ll lay the foundation to build on, someone who will not only demonstrate good governance and put Nigeria on the path of progress and development but also as someone who knows that there’s no success without a good successor. “He said, “Prince, the reason why I want that man(Tinubu) is that it’s not about his term as President. Asiwaju will let you know that as good as you might rate his tenure, there’s no success without a good successor. “He’ll ensure after he might have completed his tenure, that he gives you a good successor. You can imagine what will become of Nigeria in that kind of situation.” Thankfully, that wish has come to pass.”
No power or force can prevent Tinubu from being president of Nigeria
David Umahi, Ebonyi State governor has shared that no power can deprive the President-elect, Bola Tinubu of his mandate.
He made the assertion in Abakaliki on Tuesday while dedicating the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state and across the country to God. According to him, those seeking to upturn the victories at the tribunal are simply wasting their time and resources. “APC, as a Party, merited all it got at the polls,” the governor stated. He advised those thinking they would rob Mr. Tinubu of his mandate to have a re-think. “When people say they are going to Court or going to tribunal, I just laugh because there is no power or force that can remove Tinubu from being the President of Nigeria,” adding “this is because the time God would have stopped him, God allowed him. Because God allowed him, no man can stop him. And this extreme politics should be de-emphasized in Nigeria, so we can move forward for a better Nigeria,” Mr Umahi said.
Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo appeals for mercy in organ trafficking Case
Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo has written a letter to the Chief Clerk of the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, in London, regarding the recent conviction of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, for organ trafficking.
The couple face the risk of a 10-year prison sentence in line with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 of the United Kingdom, following the guilty verdicts pronounced by Mr Justice Johnson. They have been remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced on May 5. In his letter, dated April 3, 2023, Obasanjo requested that the Clerk intervene and ensure that the UK government shows clemency towards the Ekweremadus.
He acknowledged the seriousness of their actions, which involved conspiring to arrange the travel of a young man from Nigeria to the UK in order to harvest organs for their daughter. However, he urged the court and the UK government to take into account the couple’s good character and parental instincts, and to be merciful in their sentencing. Obasanjo expressed his desire for warm relations between the UK and Nigeria, and highlighted Ike Ekweremadu‘s position as a distinguished member of the Nigerian Parliament. He also emphasized the urgent medical attention required by their daughter, whose current health condition is in danger. The former president concluded by expressing his hope that the Ekweremadus have learnt from this experience and that they will continue to be outstanding members of their community, contributing fully to the good of society and the nation in general. “Mr. Chief Clerk, I am very much aware of the current travails and conviction of Ike Ekweremadu and his wife in the United Kingdom resulting from their being charged with conspiring to arrange the travel of a 21-year-old from Nigeria to the UK in order to harvest organs for their daughter. “I do realise the implications of their action and I dare say, it is unpleasant and condemnable and can’t be tolerated in any sane or civilised society. “However, it is my fervent desire for very warm relations between the United Kingdom and Federal Republic of Nigeria; for his position as one of the distinguished Senators in the Nigerian Parliament, and also for the sake of their daughter in question whose current health condition is in danger and requires urgent medical attention, you will use your good offices to intervene and appeal to the court and the government of the United Kingdom to be magnanimous enough to temper justice with mercy and let punishment that may have to come take their good character and parental instinct and care into consideration. “I do hope Mr. and Mrs. Ekweremadu have learnt from this distressing experience of theirs to guide
their future actions or inactions so they will continue to be outstanding members of their community and will continue to contribute fully to the good of the society in particular and the nation in general.” he wrote.
