A Nigerian man, Henry Omoregie, has shared an official tuition fee receipt from a state university in 1987, showcasing the remarkably affordable cost of education at that time. The receipt in question, dated 1987, pertains to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. Astonishingly, the tuition fee for the entire session was a mere 340 Naira.
The small tuition fee from back then has stirred up feelings of nostalgia and made people reflect on just how much tuition costs have changed over the years. Omoregie, who unveiled the receipt on a Friday, pointed out that during the same period, the tuition fee at Federal universities across the country stood at a mere 10 Naira. A Nigerian lady, Mayowa Sam, has shared her experience after a woman mistakenly credited her account with N95,000. According to her story, she was seeing a movie when a strange number kept calling her line. She decided to pick the call only to hear a woman crying profusely over the phone. When asked what the problem was, the woman said she mistakenly transferred N95,000 to her account and pleaded for a refund. Mayowa said she quickly checked her account status and confirmed that the money was truly sent to her account. She immediately refunded the money and the grateful creditor called back to pray for her. Mayowa tweeted: “I hate picking calls whenever I am seeing a movie. But this number kept calling. Okay! I picked and the person was crying, Ha! What happen o? She replied with “Aunty, please I mistakenly sent 95,500 to your Opay account”. Me: Opay? I didn’t get any alert but I’ll check. “Thank God she called, the 95,500 was sitting down there with my #429. (I don’t use my Opay for transactions). Well! A Nigerian man has claimed that the total amount of money he spent on education is not up to N200,000. According to him, he paid N40 in JSS 1 first term which was way back in 1994. He added that during his 100l, he spent ₦1090 on school fees in 2001.
In his words: “My 1st term JSS 1 school fee was N40 (Forty Naira) in 1994. Paid N1,090 (One thousand and ninety Naira) for school and accommodation fees in 100L in university in 2001. “Paid 15k or so in final year. All money spent on my education from primary school thru university < N200k.”
