Reps reject motion seeking to ban Nigerians from leaving the country

The House of Representatives on Thursday rejected a motion seeking to declare the emigration of young Nigerians abroad, known as “Japa” syndrome as a national emergency. This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. Philip Agbese(APC-Benue) who was based in the United Kingdom before becoming a lawmaker in Nigeria during plenary. Reps reject motion seeking to ban Nigerians from leaving the countryThe House of Reps Presenting the motion, Agbese said statistics from the Nigerian Economic Summit, showed that a growing number of young Nigerians were relocating abroad. He said the recent reports by African Polling Institute indicated that 69 per cent of young people would opt to relocate if given the chance. He said there was a 40 per cent increase in the number of young Nigerians leaving the nation compared to the number captured in 2019, as the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) reported.
He said the UN DESA stated that international emigration from Nigeria in 2020 total 1.7 million, which was a substantial increase from 990,000 in 2010. He said the growing statistics of young Nigerians leaving Nigeria and securing permanent residence in the UK, the USA, and Canada portends a grave danger for the country from Economic to intellectual and Social aspects.
When the Speaker of the House, Reps Abbas subjected the motion to a vote, it was unanimously rejected by the lawmakers. NAN

A herbalist by the name Isiaka Ogunkoya has been arrested by the Osun sate police command for murdering a pastor identified as Kalejaye Ezekiel for ritual purposes after he came to him seeking for spiritual powers. The 48-year-old herbalist had confessed to this after he met his Waterloo while on his way to Isoyin area of the state.

The man said: “I k#lled the pastor for rit¥als, needed to make use of a human during that period and the pastor came around. He told me he needed more spiritual powers so as to have more members to his church so | thought it was a good opportunity for me to make use of the pastor for the rit¥als I’m supposed to do that time. I gave him a s¥bstance to drink which he drank and slept off. So I b¥tch£red him and t%ok out his heart and intestines which i used to make a concoction.”

A UK-based husband and wife have confessed to each other how they sought the services of the same witch doctor to kill each other. The husband who has been identified as Baba Gamu reportedly visited the witch doctor first asking the spirits to kill his partner. After he was busted, he defended himself during a family meeting that he was informed by a lot of prophets that his wife was consulting witch doctors and allegedly using black magic against him. He added that his wife has also sacked him from their residence. However, during the discussions, it was discovered that the wife known as Mai Gamu was called by the witch doctor and divulged the intentions of the man to her. Nollywood actress, Uche Ogbodo, has expressed her views on the recent case of a young man who was falsely accused of rape.

In her statement, she advised the young man to let go of the incident and move on with his life, rather than attempting to ruin the life of the woman who falsely accused him. She also emphasized the fact that the woman had threatened to accuse him of rape, but had never gone through with it and even apologized for her actions. Furthermore, Uche Ogbodo accused the young man of abusing the Nigerian police in his quest to prove his innocence. She urged him to forgive the woman and stop pushing for revenge, as such actions could result in the destruction of innocent lives.

“Richard you need to Relax with your Vindictive approach! She threatened to accuse you but she never did and turned around to apologize for it. Forgive her then and move on! Let us stop pushing wicked and mean people to actually ruin people’s lives all in the name of ‘i am Right’. “See how you are even Abusing the Police Force! What manner of Person is this guy. The couple can be seen arguing while the pastor’s mother-in-law interfered pleading with the man to take it easy. He, however, insisted that his wife can proceed without his consent to append the divorce papers.
