Source: Twitter The court, affirming the verdict on Monday, was met with an unexpected display of aggression when Zieler jabbed his attorney, Kevin Shirley, in the face with his elbow. The attack occurred moments after Zieler had requested for the cameras in the room to be taken down, seemingly in an attempt to have a private conversation with his lawyer. However, instead of whispering, Zieler struck Shirley, prompting a swift response from three bailiffs who wrestled him to the ground before escorting him out of the courtroom. Shirley, speaking about the incident, explained, “It seemed like he didn’t want our conversation to be picked up by the microphones. So he waved me down and I bent over, and he struck me.” The attorney sustained the blow but assured the court that he had endured worse in the past, according to Fox 4. Earlier in May, Zieler had received a death sentence from a jury in Lee County, Florida, after being convicted of raping and suffocating his two victims. The arrest in 2016 marked a breakthrough in the cold case, 26 years after the brutal murders took place. Despite his counsel’s appeal for a new trial during Monday’s appearance, the judge dismissed the motion and upheld the conviction, as reported by WPTV. Following the attack, captured in viral footage, Lee Circuit Judge Robert Branning expressed concern for the attorney’s well-being, asking if he was okay. Shirley responded that he had endured more severe blows before, displaying remarkable resilience in the face of the assault. New York Post reports that the 36-year-old Larry Pearson was picked up by policemen on domestic violence charges after he allegedly hit a woman several times in the face. The report also revealed that Pearson left his victim with “multiple visible injuries.” Larry allegedly got angry when officers didn’t arrest the victim and started kicking the door of the police cruiser. When two cops opened the door to demand he stops, Pearson spat at them and kept doing so even after he got to the Lubbock County Detention Center, the New York Post said. During the trial’s closing arguments, prosecutor Jessica Gorman asked the jury to “send a message” to both the suspect and society with its sentencing. Larry had prior convictions for aggravated robbery and family violence, Gorman said. As a result, he faced a minimum sentence of 25 years. “If you’re going to live the life of crime, you’re going to do that among other criminals (in prison),” Gorman told the court. Jim Shaw, Pearson’s defense attorney, told jurors that the sentencing was for a “simple misdemeanor” that got out of control. “You’re not going to get 70 years for something like this when you’ve never been in trouble before,” Gorman said.

domestic worker

The Ikeja High Court sat on the case of the young man and sentenced him to death by hanging after he was found guilty of killing his 89-year-old employer, Ajoke John, and her daughter, Oreoluwa John who was also 38 years. The accused was said to have been the domestic worker for the two employers whom he brutally murdered on the 19th of June, 2019 n their residence in Surulere. Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay found the accused guilty of a three-count charge bordering on armed robbery and murder. “He killed Adejoke by strangling her and Oreoluwa by stabbing her to death. As the defense did not raise an objection to the admissibility of the confessional statement, there is no doubt that the defendant confessed to the crimes. I have considered the evidence of the security guard, an Okada man, one Yahya Ibrahim, the house help, and a police Inspector.” “The defendant could not explain what he was doing with all the stolen items he was found with at about 2:00 a.m. on the date he was arrested.” “The court is satisfied with the total evidence to establish the guilt of the defendant. This court has found Joseph Ogbu guilty of these heinous crimes, and you are hereby sentenced to death by hanging. May God have mercy on your soul,” Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay added.

R. Kelly sentenced to 20 years for child sex crimes

Veteran singer, Robert Kelly, better known as R. Kelly has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for child sex crimes by a federal judge.

R. Kelly

This comes after a jury found that he had produced three videos of himself sexually abusing his 14-year-old goddaughter. It will be recalled that the singer is already serving 30 years after a jury convicted him of racketeering and sex trafficking charges. During court, U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber ruled that Mr. Kelly would serve nearly all of one sentence simultaneously with a previous 30-year sentence which was imposed last year on racketeering charges from his Brooklyn case.

REUTERS/Daniel Acker/ Leinenweber also ordered that Kelly serve one year in prison following his New York sentence. Federal prosecutors had argued that the 56-year-old deserved 25 years in prison on top of his earlier sentence. The singer’s “lack of remorse” was cited as a reason he would pose a danger to society if released.
