“We are heartbroken and distressed. Whitney was one of our Day students who opted not to participate in the inter-house sports match past for reasons we were not very sure of.
“However, on discretion, we respected her decision to err on the side of caution, because on the January 20, 2023, it is in our records that she had complained about a not-too-buoyant health and we immediately contacted her parents.
“Her father, Mr. Michael Adeniran, came to the school to take her home. We emphasised to her parents to take a critical look at her. “Our immediate response was to take advantage of proximity to first-aid, by identifying the nearest medical facility to take her to, where the doctor on duty, administered oxygen and every aid possible on her.” Chrisland requested that the Adeniran family conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of her death before her funeral. “We immediately notified regulatory stakeholders and agencies to allow for a comprehensive evaluation and assessment of the developments.
“In spite of the compelling imperatives to fill any information gaps in public space, we stopped short of making any media sensation out of this, because the deceased in question, was a minor and is deserving of our unqualified respect.
“We also prioritised according respect to the privacy of the family and were with them consistently, to mourn together. This is a painful loss for all of us,” it added.

"She's the 3rd wife" - Man raises alarm over 12-year-old girl who is married off to a 50-year-old man in Benue

A Nigerian content creator identified as Lucky Udu on Facebook is seeking help for a 12-year-old girl in Adaka community of Makurdi, Benue State, who is unjustly married off to a 50-year-old man as a third wife.
The content creator, who raised the alarm via his Facebook page, frowned at the alleged inaction of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, as he recourses to social media.

Narrating the story, he wrote: “I just finished interviewing this 12yr old girl who is married to a 50years old man (who is a Christian) in Benue state. Her family deceived her and sold her out to the man. The girl thought she was coming here to school but unfortunately, she was brought down to become his 3rd wife. This man is a poor unsatisfied farmer who already has two wives and his children are above 20 years old.
“He beats her every night and forces himself on her but has only succeeded once in sleeping with her. It’s been two months now, she needs help, she is crying and wants to be rescued but unfortunately, I‘m only a stranger here in Benue state and for some days now, I have been trying my best to rescue her through organizations like Naptip Nigeria but they are slow and unenthusiastic in rescuing her. I need more people on social media to be aware of this situation and help this young girl. She is only 12 years old. Pls, share.
“Her address is a green small house behind Primary health care Adaka, Makurdi in Benue State, Nigeria.
“The community seems to be protecting the man. I have been careful with my movements but I filmed her while he was away. We sneaked her out and returned her thinking we would rescue her that evening or the next day but nobody cares and I’m in a strange land with nothing but a phone and a camera.
“This is my fifth state since the beginning of my tour, lives are being changed, let this be the case for this young girl too. Thank you.”
