Enugu Tribunal orders Peter Mbah to appear before it over alleged NYSC certificate forgery

Enugu Tribunal orders Mbah to appear before it over alleged certificate forgery

The Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has ordered Governor Peter Mbah to appear before it tomorrow, Friday, over the alleged forgery of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, discharge certificate. This is coming after an application was made by the candidate of Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, Elder Christopher Agu through its counsel, Barr Alex Amujiogo, claiming that Mbah was not qualified to contest the election.

Enugu Tribunal orders Mbah to appear before it over alleged certificate forgery

Present Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah At the resumed hearing, the PRP’s counsel, Amujiogo told the tribunal that Mbah was supposed to be in court as a subpoenaed witness. He, however, said from the affidavit deposed to by the bailiff of the Tribunal, it had been difficult to serve Mbah the summon. Amujiogo then moved an application, urging the Tribunal to grant a substituted service of the summon on Mbah through his counsel. Although the application was opposed by the three respondents, the INEC, Mbah as well as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the grounds that it was supposed to come by way of motion, supported by an affidavit during pre-trial session, they were overruled by the Tribunal. Chairman of the Panel, Justice K. M. Akano ordered that the subpoena be served on Mbah through his counsel and that he should appear before the Tribunal tomorrow, June 23, 2023. Earlier, the PRP guber candidate during the election, Agu, had also testified before the Tribunal as PW2. An official of the NYSC from the National Secretariat, Abuja, Barr. Aliu Muhammed, who also appeared on behalf of the Director-General of the Corps, tendered an affidavit to the Tribunal, declaring that an order of a Federal High Abuja, was inhibiting them from tendering the disclaimer the Corps made against Mbah’s certificate. The PRP lawyer, Amujiogo told journalists after the Tribunal’s sitting that “our PW2 (Christopher Agu) has already testified before the Honourable Tribunal and he has given a clearer picture, the synopsis of what transpired during the election and we are urging the Tribunal to set aside the purported result in favour of Peter Mbah, the Governor. “We had an issue of subpoena against Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, in which the Tribunal is urging him to appear before it to clarify certain issues against him, based on his NYSC certificate and other matters. “Surprisingly, he was not in the Tribunal today and the bailiff informed the Tribunal that he is invading service, he cannot find him, the security cannot allow him to serve Mbah the subpoena. “Then, the Tribunal in its own wisdom, after I have applied, has now permitted the bailiff or myself, to now serve Mbah through his counsel, for him to appear before the Tribunal tomorrow, being 23rd of June, 2023 and clarify certain issues against him before the Tribunal and we have already served him the said subpoena through his lawyer, Ik Onuoma today in court. “So he must obey the summon of the Tribunal by appearing in person tomorrow, Friday.”

APC tackles NPF, DSS over alleged raid on Matawalle’s homes in Zamfara

The Zamfara Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department for State Services (DSS) for allegedly invading the homes of the immediate past Governor of the state, Alhaji Bello Matawalle. The condemnation is contained in a statement issued in Gusau by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Yusuf Idris.

Bello Matawalle DSS APC

The immediate past Governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Bello Matawalle. The statement read, “The unlawful invasion is a gross violation of the sacred provisions of Sections 34, 35, 37, 41, 42 and 43 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended. “What exactly might have warranted the invasion still remains a mystery to the good people of Zamfara State. “If the government thinks it has any case against the former governor why not charge him to court instead of resorting to such barbaric and uncivilized means,” Idris said in the statement. The APC appealed to the leadership of the NPF and the DSS “to caution their personnel against such misadventure and punish those who took part in the alleged invasion“. “We appeal to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to order the immediate investigation and prosecution of all those who carried out the illegal act of breaking into the two residences of the Zamfara State APC leader and former Gov. Bello Matawalle. “We also call on the IGP to order the immediate arrest of those personnel stationed at the two residences of the former governor. “The former governor has several times said he has nothing to hide anywhere but legal means must be deployed before carrying out any action against him or his property. “We urge the police and all sister security agencies and their personnel to tread political grounds with caution as we cannot condone such action, especially in our dear state, which has deteriorating security challenges,” the statement said. Meanwhile, the Zamfara government, in a swift reaction to the police raid, said it ordered the operatives to recover vehicles allegedly “looted“ by the erstwhile governor.

The current Governor of Zamfara state, Dauda Lawal The government, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Suleman Idris, had earlier said that the raid by the police was executed in the aftermath of a court order it obtained. “The police operatives stormed the residences of the former governor where over 40 vehicles were impounded. “The police acted on a court order and a search warrant obtained for the operation,” Suleiman said. According to him, the Zamfara government had earlier asked Matawalle and his Deputy to return all the missing vehicles within five work days. “We also lodged an official complaint with the police on the wasteful looting of valuables, including official vehicles. “Consequently, the police sought a search warrant which was duly given by the court and hence raided Matawalle’s residences in Gusau, Maradun and another unidentified hideout. “Over 40 vehicles were recovered, including three bulletproof vehicles and eight Sport Utility vehicles (SUV). “We want to reaffirm our commitment to recover all that belongs to the people. “Our common resolve is to rescue and rebuild Zamfara and recovering the proceeds of crime and public assets is a critical part of our rescue mission. “We want to call on the people of Zamfara to remain calm as we continue to record massive improvements in the areas of security and the lingering water scarcity in the state,” Suleiman said.

The executive governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi has broken his silence over the investigations of EFCC over an alleged N4bn fraud. Photo credit: Google Source: Google In a statement that was released by the Head of the Fayemi Media Office, Abuja, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, stated emphatically, that “no such allegation was raised during his conversation” with officials of the anti-graft agency. According to the statement, the visit of Kayode Fayemi to the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in Ilorin, Kwara State, was to answer a few questions about a petition filed by some group of people who wanted to tarnish his image. The statement read, “We would like to address the concerns surrounding the invitation and subsequent visit of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past governor of Ekiti State and former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, to the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. “Last month, Dr. Fayemi received an invitation from the Ilorin office of the EFCC regarding a money laundering petition against him. It was during the height of the preparations for the change of government, with many activities and programs lined up as part of the event. “A key member of the APC, Dr Fayemi was already committed to playing important roles at these events and his non-appearance would have impacted them significantly. Understanding the significance of his commitments at that time, Dr. Fayemi duly notified the EFCC of his willingness to cooperate but requested a more suitable date for his appearance.” It added, “We firmly believe that Dr. Fayemi’s visit has provided answers to the agency’s inquiries regarding the petition. However, should there be a need for further clarification, Dr. Fayemi stands ready to cooperate fully. “We wish to note, too, that contrary to the news that made the rounds about a purported N4b fraud case against Dr. Fayemi, no such allegation was raised in his conversation with the EFCC. “All he did was respond to a frivolous petition from a faceless group, the so-called Ekiti Patriotic Coalition, which we strongly believed is a front for some anti-Fayemi politicians, who are trying to soil the former governor’s good name and image.”
