Tems recounts her prison experience in Uganda

"I didn’t even know I was going to get out" – Tems recounts her prison experience in Uganda

Nigerian singer, Tems recently opened up about her terrifying arrest and confinement to a tiny prison room in Uganda. She described her experience to Angie Martinez during an interview.

Tems

When she was picked up from her hotel, she thought it was a joke at first, but when she was given a smelly, dirty prison uniform, the reality set in. She was afraid she might not survive. The Grammy award winner said her tiny cell in prison consisted only of a floor, some blankets, and some tissues. She was isolated from the outside world for two exhausting days and was unaware of her whereabouts. The singer started crying as soon as she saw her uniform, which smelled awful. She hoped, but she had no idea if or when she would be freed.

Tems

Tems said she created bonds with other female inmates, many of whom were detained for insignificant offences, some of which were the result of prison guard corruption. Following a performance in Uganda on December 12, 2020, Tems and another artist were accused of breaking COVID-19 regulations, which led to this ordeal. In her words: “I thought I wasn’t gonna come out. I thought I was seeing it for a reason like maybe I was meant to help the people. I was settling in because I adapted real quick and as I was walking in I started to cry because they gave me my uniform and it stunk because they don’t wash it. It was a small room and there was nothing, there’s just the floor they give you blankets and tissues and you’re just on the floor, no bed and I did it for two days. I didn’t even know I was going to get out, I didn’t have any ears on the ground nobody told me anything. Outside everyone was like ‘free Tems, free Omah lay but inside I was just hopeful, waiting.”

Perhaps the most disturbing image was that of a used sanitary pad adhered to the dryer, suggesting a serious lack of personal hygiene on the part of his flatmate. The man alleged that the woman didn’t remove her sanitary pads from her underwear before tossing them into the washing machine, compounding the already dire living conditions.

In his Twitter posts, the man openly admitted to taking it upon himself to clean up the mess left by his flatmate on some occasions. He revealed that he even found himself in tears while tackling the unsanitary living conditions. See below;

Husband drags wife to court, narrates painful experience to judge

Husband Wife Court

A husband has taken his wife to court due to the distressing treatment he endures within their home. Despite being married, he revealed that he has been subjected to significant suffering at the hands of his own wife.

In detailing her actions, he explained that his wife frequently engages in physical violence towards him, seizing any opportunity to do so. He recounted an incident where she asked him why he doesn’t plead for mercy as her father does when her mother beats him. However, he expressed that her father may possess the strength to endure such treatment, unlike himself. Furthermore, the man disclosed that his wife has, on multiple occasions, destroyed all the clothing he owns, leaving him with nothing to wear to work, forcing him to borrow clothes from his neighbor.

Additionally, he accused his wife of engaging in infidelity with one of his friends. Nigerians have responded to the man’s confession by expressing their thoughts and opinions in the comment section. See some reactions below:  @favoredsinner: “No matter how emotional your story is as a man in an abusive relationship, people will hardly help, take you serious or believe you. The game is rigged.” @iamlindagraham: “This isn’t funny. If it was the other way round they’ll be talking about domestic violence. This is the luxury of double standards we women enjoy. I said what I said. I’ve also said that we aren’t ready to talk about men facing domestic abuse in the home too. We’re still stuck on gender wars.” @Taiwo_junzi: “Nothing the pattern! No empathy cos it’s a man! See everybody’s countenance and body language in the video. People will watch the video and smile, let it go the other way you’ll be hearing “I couldn’t watch till the end.” @JimisolaCoal: “Sigh. What’s funny about the situation ? Even the judge is smiling . Kilo funny ? Someone is speaking from a place of pain and they are kikiking. This is why men barely speak up . Eiiish” @chimxy14: “If we reverse this story nobody would be laughing in that court room. That woman even has an evil look. Men go through abuse too and it’s not new.” @iamAyoTomi: “Man be speaking in pain but people Dey laugh. Cos na MAN . Later de, go say speak up, na why most men Dey hide their pain.” WATCH VIDEO: This is heartbreaking 💔 😢 Why are they laughing at him?? 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/hsadzUe7BW — Dami’ Adenuga (@DAMIADENUGA) July 9, 2023

“The experience I’ll never forget as a cab driver in US” ― Tinubu

"The experience I'll never forget as a cab driver in US" ― Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has narrated an experience he will never forget as a young taxi driver in the United States. This was revealed as he shared his humble beginning in a biography published on the back page of a national daily where he revealed that a naval officer once slapped him for overcharging him unintentionally.

President Bola TinubuThe biography titled, ‘Tinubu: My life as gypsy cab driver in the US’, was authored by Mike Awoyinfa, a seasoned journalist. Tinubu, in the story, said he worked as unlicensed taxi driver in Chicago, the US picking passengers from the airport to their destinations. The president said the driving job was meant to sustain him financially before he went to school. He narrated, “We got an unregistered used car commonly called Gypsy, which we ran as a taxi. We operated at the airport where we picked passengers, and not anywhere else, like the hotel because it was forbidden for unlicensed cab drivers to do so. “We did that for a while to raise some money. Bolaji went to Tennessee, while I headed for Chicago. “I was supposed to have started schooling in April. I deferred it till September in order to have more money. Immediately I got to Chicago, I went straight to Richard Daley College. It was very interesting. “I was able to pay for my apartment and tuition fees at Chicago State University. I supplemented that by doing different menial jobs like door guard and security man.” Speaking further about the incident, he said the naval officer he carried responded with a slap on his face because he overcharged him, as his destination was nearby. “As a cab driver, one experience I will never forget was when I over-charged a naval officer returning to the country. It was not intentional,” Tinubu said. “Apparently, I didn’t know the direction. There was no GPRS in those days to locate directions. So, he gave me the direction to his house in a Virginia suburb. “I gave him the price and the man responded with a slap to my face. He said I should know the correct price to charge to the location he mentioned. He slapped me and gave me the money.” Source: Daily Trust

How My Best Friend Betrayed Me “From my best friend 🥲 It’s was 2018 during the World Cup,govern Sanwolu brought the World Cup love to Alimosho then, I was sick on the last match and my bestir came home to cheer me up and ask us to go swimming, I was a bit not fine but I went with her cos we were very close. When we got to the pool, we both went into the change room and she brought out her new Tecno spark then and ask for a selfie🥲, I was still half naked cos I had a bikini bra on with no pantries and I was trying to park my hair well before wearing my bikini pant. Unknown to me she was recording me while I was combing my hair and dancing to this Burna boy song🥲Gba, she later told me not to swim again that day cos of my health and she bought me juice while I watch her swim, the next day I was in her house through out and gusting about life. Aftermath of Leaked Video to My Parents Later on my mom called me showing me the video that an unknown number sent the video to her phone🥲🥲 as a Muslim mother🥲 I was beaten to a pulp that day and I ran out crying to my bestie 😭😭 told her somebody sent a video of me to my mom😭she was crying and cursing the person. I got suicidal and my father disowned me 😥my mom was the one that helped me pull through and I explained everything to her and told her I don’t know who did the video 😥 she thought I did the video so I could send to my bf or something 😭😭 I always cry and curse the person. Finding Out About Leaked Video 3month later, one of my bestie friends came to me asking for forgiveness and I ask him what he did to me🥲 he said my bestie did the video and sent it to him to send it to my mom cos my mom has her number saved and will know whr it’s came from, she denied everything. The guy showed us proof of chat and my mom got her arrested 😥 she told the police that I once collected her Boyfriend😭and why is it that fine boys always ask me out and she didn’t get anyone to ask her out and I collected her Facebook bf again😭😭😭her parent beg us. We released her and I have been so fucked up 😥 I don’t trust anyone not even myself cos the girl broke me, she was my only friend and knows every details of my living 😥 I left the area for a year plus but the stigma is still there😥😥. I didn’t add the part that after they sent it to my mom, they sent it to Abesan news too😥😥 it’s was everywhere on WhatsApp and she will be the one to call me and tell me she saw it on different groups cos my mom seized my phone then and I didn’t have access to internet😥😥 I Became Suicidal My dad always call me everyday to curse me😥 say hurtful words😭 I zero my mind and decide to take sniper cos the embarrassment was a lot and my mom cleared the house from anything poisonous and lock me in my room 😭without anything to hurt myself and no phone. I remember tying 3to 4 scarf together to hang myself but my celling fan was too weak 😭😭 I tried to kill myself multiple times🥲they called different Alfa to come preach to me and my mom drove me to the hospital to see what people are going through😭. They showed me a woman that was half dead cos she took poison and the poison didn’t kill her and she was begging to be saved😭😭I was taken to morgue to see young girls and boys that died 😭😭 I am so grateful to my mom cos she redeemed me. I remember drinking nail dissolver, swallowing a black soap 😭😭 maybe it’s will gradually destroy my organs 😥😥 I just wanted to die that time😭😭 omooo Iya mi is my gold and silver 🥲🥲🥲the thought of it now makes me want to live,enjoy and be loved 💪🏾💪🏾. I was still friends with her when everything played out and she was the one encouraging me to turn deaf ear to everyone, she took me in when my mom beat me to a pulp and she was the one begging my dad and mum to forgive me, it’s was when the guy confessed I knew I trusted a snake.”
