Football legend, Pele dies at 82

Football lovers all around the world mourn the death of famous Brazil football legend, Pele who has died at the age of 82.

Pele was said to have been battling colon cancer and reportedly spent Christmas in the hospital. He was receiving treatment for cardiac and renal dysfunction, before his death.
His sad demise was confirmed today, 29th of December, 2022. Pele’s daughter, Kely Nascimento confirmed the news on Instagram, in a post that read:
“Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”

His death was also further confirmed via the official page of ESPN. The post read:
“Brazil legend Pelé has died at the age of 82.
The original GOAT. A trailblazer. One of the finest players to ever lace up.
He will be missed by millions.”

Andre Onana retires from international football after World Cup fallout with Cameroon’s coach Rigobert Song

Cameroon’s goalkeeper Andre Onana has retired from international football at the age of 26 after he was sent home from the 2022 World Cup.
Onana who played only at Cameroon’s World Cup opener against Switzerland was dropped in their second game against Serbia after a heated argument with coach Rigobert Song over his tactics.

The Inter Milan goalkeeper reportedly ‘refused’ to alter his playing style for Song, which led to him being replaced by Devis Epassy.
Though Cameroon defeated Brazil in their final group game, it wasn’t enough to see them progress as Switzerland finished second to the South Americans.
Announcing his retirement days after the tournament was concluded, Onana wrote;

“After endless hours of training, endless trips and a lot perseverance, I can proudly say that I have fulfilled my great dream.
“But every story, however beautiful it may be, has to end. And my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end.
“Players come and go, names are fleeting, but Cameroon comes before any person or player.
“Cameroon remains eternal and so does my love for the national team and for our people who have always supported us.
“My feeling will never change. My Cameroonian heart will continue to beat and wherever I go I will always fight to lift the flag of Cameroon as high as possible.
“I will continue to support as a fan, just as the more than 27 million Cameroonians do at every match. I can only thank all those who trusted me and believed that I could add and contribute to this team.”

According to the lady, she won’t be getting married any man who is a passionate football supporter.

She also went further to rebuke the possibility of a relationship between her and a football-obsessed man ever existing.

Kylian Mbappe doesn’t know enough about football

Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez has tackled French football star, Kylian Mbappe over an old comment he made about the quality of South American football.

The French footballer was quoted saying in May that European nations are better prepared for the World Cup because they play “high-level matches all the time” against each other, whereas Argentina and Brazil do not face the same demands.
When Martinez was asked what he thinks about the comment Mbappe made about South American football at a press conference on Saturday, December 17, he stated that the PSG star doesn’t know enough about football.

He said;
“He doesn’t know enough about football. He never played in South America. When you don’t have this experience, it may be better not to talk about it. But it doesn’t matter. We are a great team, recognised as such.”

Carlos Tevez announces retirement from football following death of his father

Ex Manchester City and Man United star player, Carlos Tevez has announced he’s retiring from football after he lost his number one fan, his father.
The forward player revealed that he had declined offers made to him to extend his football career but turned them down, choosing to retire at the age of 38.

Tevez revealed he had stopped playing football after losing his adopted father,
Segundo Ralmundo following complications from covid-19.
He said:
“I have retired, it’s confirmed,’ he said, according to the Mundo Albiceleste website. ‘They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that’s it, I have given everything.
Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan.”
The Argentinian had revealed his struggles with weight gain, as he admitted to eating and drinking to much after leaving his former team, Boca;
“I eat empanadas and drink fernet and wine – whatever I want, I take care of myself a little, but I now have an extra three or four kilos. I get up a little late. I can’t imagine going back to training and running.
I used to get up at 6am to go training. I would arrive first and be the last to leave. But I don’t have the strength to do that now.’”

Football super agent, Mino Raiola has passed away

Italian super agent, Mino Raiola has died of an illness in Milan, Italy. His family announced on Saturday, noting that he died at the age of 54.

Raiola, was the agent of superstars Erling Haaland, Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku and Marco Veratti.

According to reports, the 54-year-old had been hospitalised in Milan where he underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness.
It was also speculated that the illness was non-life-threatening as he was expected to make a full recovery.
