Outrage as Grammy organisers describe Wizkid, Rema as ‘up-and-coming artists’ The prestigious Recording Academy, Grammy Awards organisers face backlash as it describes the renowned Nigerian Afrobeat singers, Wizkid and Rema as up-and-coming artists. On Instagram, the Academy received severe criticism from Nigerians after tagging two of the best internationally recognized singers as up-and-coming.

In an Instastory post that questioned, “Who is an up-and-coming Black artist everyone should have on their radar?” the Recording Academy mentioned Wizkid and Rema. This choice, however, did not sit well with many Nigerians, particularly Wizkid’s fans, who deemed it disrespectful considering the singer’s status as one of Africa’s most accomplished music artists.

A social media user wrote in reaction, “Forget stanship this is actually disrespectful considering Wizkid is a top three afrobeats artiste.” Another user added, “Wiz kid up and coming ke? Is Grammy mad?” “Wizkid isn’t up-and-coming, tf?” one @oxfybi wrote.

Davido throws shade, replies diss about not having Grammy

American-born Nigerian singer, Davido Adeleke throws shade regarding artists who don’t promote their work often while responding to diss about not having a Grammy. The singer who recently splashed about N350M of a Mercedes-Maybach took to Twitter to have a little fun with a subtle shade.

He stated emphasized pushing his while referencing the type of effort put into selling a sachet of water. “U be Artist and u Dey form ‘I no dey post’ … nah u know imma hawk my shit like pure water!😂,” he wrote.

The post, however, sparked thousands of reactions in under an hour including some from trolls who bashed him for not having a Grammy despite his huge music career. A troll wrote in reply, “you no go like hawk enter Grammy & Hot100 too?” In response, Davido assured him that the point of ‘hawking’ his music career is to bag the achievement people like him berat him about. “Well that’s the plan … nah why we Dey hawk … and yes by the special grace of God those things will come my way,” he wrote.

Reno Omokri trashes idea that Tems is first Nigeria to win Grammy

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has trashed the comment on social media that Tems is the first Nigerian to win a Grammy award. Nigerian singer Tems was nominated in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ and ‘Best Rap Song’ and won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category on Sunday night, at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. After Tems win, a lot of have hailed her as they tag her as the first Nigerian songstress to win a Grammy award. However, Reno Omokri has debunked the claims that Tems is the first Nigerian adding that Nigerian-British singer, Sade Adu, never identified herself as a Nigerian. According to Reno, Sade has spent 40 years promoting Nigeria and it would be wrong to give her credit to Tems. He wrote: Sade Adu has always identified with Nigeria. When interviewed, she stressed her Nigerianness. She did not funkify her name to make it sound European. In interview after interview, she asserted the fact that she is a Nigerian born in Ibadan. So, let us appreciate her. She is the first Nigerian female to win a Grammy in 1986. In honouring another female who eminently deserves to be honoured, let us not dishonour Sade Adu. By saying someone else is the first Nigerian female to win a Grammy, what we are telling Ms. Adu is that she is not a Nigerian. I know many people will rush here to insult me. But before commenting, take a minute to put yourself in Sade Adu’s shoes. You have spent 40 years promoting Nigeria. Insisting to the British media that you are Nigerian when they proudly claimed you for Britain. Then today, you read that someone else is the first Nigerian female to win a Grammy. How would you feel? If after you have put yourself in Sade Adu’s shoes you still feel the need to insult me, then please go ahead.

Diddy reacts to viral post of him mocking artist over Grammy Award loss

Popular American rapper, Diddy has reacted to a viral post of him mocking a singer assumed to be Burna Boy or Chris Brown over loss at 65th Grammy Awards.

A post had been making the rounds online which was supposedly made by the American singer. In it, ‘Diddy’ had claimed to have been the one who had helped a certain singer to win his other Grammy Award and the musician had thought he’d win another without his help. The post read: “I helped you win your first and only grammy award which I did out of kindness, and somehow you thought you could win another without my help ?? Oh okay..”

Netizens have opined that the post was meant for either Chris Brown or Burna Boy since they had both lost their nominations and both had won the award once.

Diddy took to the comment section of the post which was shared by an Instagram blog to dismiss the post as fake.
