Ghanaian MP Isaac Adongo has apologised to Manchester United star Harry Maguire after using his name in a political context last year. Adongo had previously compared Maguire to Ghana’s vice president , Mahamudu Bawumia, suggesting both were prone to scoring “political own goals.” Meanwhile, in a recent parliamentary session, Adongo acknowledged that Maguire has improved in his performance, and publicly apologized to the Manchester United defender. He said, “If you remember last year I was very quick to compare (vice-president) Mahamudu Bawumia to Harry Maguire. Mr Speaker, I now apologize to Harry Maguire.”
Harry Maguire – Getty image Adongo went on to point out Maguire’s positive transformation on the football field, “Today Maguire has turned the corner, he’s a transformational footballer. “Harry Maguire is now scoring goals for Manchester United,” he added. Making another subtle statement, the MP used the football analogy to take another dig at the vice president. “As for our Maguire, the economic Maguire, he was able to get pensioners to leave their homes and come and parade in the streets.”
The House of Reps Presenting the motion, Agbese said statistics from the Nigerian Economic Summit, showed that a growing number of young Nigerians were relocating abroad. He said the recent reports by African Polling Institute indicated that 69 per cent of young people would opt to relocate if given the chance. He said there was a 40 per cent increase in the number of young Nigerians leaving the nation compared to the number captured in 2019, as the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) reported.
Former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika Sirika was also accused by the acting managing director of Nigeria Air, Captain Dapo Olumide of imposing a fraudulent deal on the nation through the formation of the airline. Dapo while appearing before the Senate Committee on Aviation revealed that the aircraft reportedly brought into the country penultimate week as belonging to the airline was chartered from Ethiopian Airlines to show off. This led to calls from many Nigerians demanding that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC investigate Sirika over the allegations. However, speaking for the first time since the national outburst against him over the airline deal on Arise News Television on Sunday, Sirika alleged that the lawmaker approached him and asked for five per cent shares of the airline for “him and his people”. “Hon Nnaji asked me that I should give him 5% of Nigeria to carry him along with his people, and I said to him at that time that honourable, you didn’t understand me. This is a bidding process that has taken place.
