Panic as Anambra businessman requests 16 soldiers, 20 policemen, 12 DSS for security

Popular businessman, Nicholas Ukachukwu has caused a stir as he requests for heavy security of military and policemen during the festivities. This comes following a gun attack on the convoy of Anambra politician, Chief Chris Uba at Uga junction, in Chief Uba’s hometown. The incident took the life of two policemen.

In separate letters to the state’s security agency chiefs, Ukachukwu—who just wed Miss Universe Nigeria, Mitchel Ihezue—stated that he would require the security personnel due to the insecurity in the area. Ukachukwu wrote to the Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment in Onitsha in one of the letters, saying: “I humbly write to request for 16 Army security personnel to provide security for me during my program/activities in Anambra State and beyond, scheduled to commence on January 6th to 10th of January 2024, respectively, taken cognizance of security challenges in my home town of Osumenyi in Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State. “The activities are as follows: On the 6th is my arrival and inspection of my personal road project at Osumenyi; on the 7th, the dedication of our village Church which my family rehabilitated and funded; on the 8th of January I will be performing the traditional mandatory rites for my marriage with my wife in her home town at Akaokwa. “9th will be the dedication of another Church we built. On the 10th, other activities I have in the East. “I graciously hope my request will be given a favourable consideration and approval.”

Splendour, who recently celebrated success in her National Examinations Council (NECO) exam, opened up about her deep-seated desire to serve in the armed forces.

Despite facing a five-year gap since completing secondary school, Splendour’s commitment to her dreams remains unshaken. The head of a Russian mercenary army fighting in Ukraine alongside Moscow’s official military forces declared war against the Russian Ministry of Defense, claiming that Russia’s war in Ukraine was all the result of a giant plot by defence bureaucrats to mislead Russian President Vladimir Putin into a pointless conflict. Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, also claims that Russian government forces struck his men and inflicted numerous casualties. The Russian Defense Ministry denies any involvement with the strike, but Prigozhin has gone, literally, on the warpath, claiming that he will march into the southern Russian city of Rostov and onward if necessary to topple the corrupt officials leading the Russian Defense Ministry and military high command. He is asking Russian police and military forces to stand aside while he gets “justice” for his troops. The Russian government, which has long welcomed Prigozhin’s assistance in conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, has apparently had enough of all this, especially now that Prigozhin is dismantling the Kremlin’s rationalizations for the war, and by extension, making Putin look like a fool or a liar or both. The Russian security service has opened a criminal case against Prigozhin for instigating a coup and issued a warrant for his arrest, something they could do only with Putin’s approval. Police and some military forces in Rostov and Moscow are reportedly on alert, and the White House says it is monitoring the situation.

Nigeria’s socio-political activist, Deji Adeyanju, has warned President Bola Tinubu not to make military appointments as political patronage. According to Deji, while applauding the president for the appointments of security chiefs and especially that of Nuhu Ribadu as his National Security Adviser, NSA, he said Tinubu would get those loyal to Nigeria by sacking the new Service Chiefs if they fail to perform their duties.

Political Activist Deji Adeyanju Deji who bagged a law degree and made first class honours last year wrote: “I received with elation, the cheering news that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has retired all service chiefs and appointed new ones, including the fitting appointment of Malam Nuhu Ribadu as the National Security Adviser. “The decision to appoint Nuhu Ribadu as NSA is indeed a courageous one which I personally commend. “As Nigeria gradually exits a period where political appointments, once made, were retained for the duration of their term, irrespective of the appointee’s incompetence, it is important to remind President Tinubu that military appointments are not to be made as political patronage. “If the new service chiefs fail in their duty, they should equally be sacked without much ado. Only through this means can we have service chiefs whose loyalty is to the Nigerian state.” Deji further charged all the new military appointees to eschew inter-agency conflict and corruption and help Tinubu achieve his political manifestos. He said: “I also use this medium to congratulate Mallam Nuhu Ribadu on his appointment as the National Security Adviser. Mallam Ribadu has had a stellar career, and expect that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on the nation’s security affairs. “I call on the new service chiefs and acting Inspector General of Police to eschew inter-agency conflict and corruption. “President Bola Tinubu and all newly appointed officials must make efforts to halt the decline in every strata of our national life.”
