"Don't blame me for the mixup" ― Mmesoma tells JAMB as she admits scoring 249

Mmesoma Ejikeme, the embattled Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, candidate, has pleaded with the board not to blame her for the mixup she has in her result while admitting to scoring 249 instead of 362. The 19-year-old Anambra student was featured on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday where she said: “After all said and done, I now saw that I got 249.

The embattled JAMB candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme “I sent them a text message there to know what really happened — the JAMB Support System. If they go to their system, they will see it there.” Mmesoma also faulted JAMB’s three-year ban on her, stressing that it was not her fault. “It’s not my fault that I printed my result like that, and they said that I forged my result. It’s not my fault. So, them banning it is not fair,” she said. Recall that the 19-year-old had claimed to have earned JAMB’s highest score after her UTME result slip showed 362. However, the board also insisted that the Anambra pupil forged her result adding that the board concluded high-level investigations before coming to the conclusion. The spokesperson of JAMB, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday. He said, “In the meantime, the management of the Board, after considering the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, and in line with its established procedures, has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and also barred her from sitting the Board’s examination for the next three years.” Benjamin again reiterated the board’s earlier position that the UTME result being paraded by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma was fake saying the candidates’ account was an attempt to re-write the truth. “Consequently, the Board would like to reassure Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised as the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named “Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle”, who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138. It is also instructive to note that the candidate, in her statement, has inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she is parading when she pointed out that the QR code on the result slip showed the actual owner of the said result before she peddled a lie in an attempt to obfuscate the truth. “To witness the unassailable position of the Board regarding this obvious falsehood, the general public is, therefore, urged to endeavour to scan the QR code on the result slip to see its actual owner before it was mutilated. It is to be noted that the QR code encapsulates the UTME result of each candidate, hence, what is on the result sheet is nothing other than the interpretation of the information on this QR code. “Furthermore, the public is also to note that the Board stopped issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME for the simple reason that candidates were falsifying them. Consequently, the Board has been issuing actual UTME RESULT Slips (not notification of results ) since 2022 complete with the photograph of each candidate,” he said.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has reached its final verdict on the alleged result falsification by a 19-year-old Anambra student, Mmesoma Ejikeme. Mmesoma has been in the news following allegations of UTME score forgery.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede and Mmesoma Ejikeme However, JAMB, on Tuesday, released a result slip, which it confirmed as authentic, showing that Mmesoma’s score in the 2023 UTME was 249 instead of 362, she had been parading. In a statement by JAMB’s spokesperson,  Fabian Benjamin on Tuesday, described the result being flaunted by Mmesoma as obsolete. He said, “The board would like to reassure Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised as the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named ‘Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle,’ who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138. “It is also instructive to note that the candidate, in her statement, has inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she is parading when she pointed out that the QR code on the result slip showed the actual owner of the said result before she peddled a lie in an attempt to obfuscate the truth,” Benjamin said. Also, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Tuesday said the board has concluded its investigations on Mmesoma Ejikeme’s case and she’s guilty as stated. He said, “The truth is that JAMB has concluded its investigation on Mmesoma’s score falsification matter; she was not the only one caught, just that others have chosen not to go out. “Presently, there is an industry faking results, and unfortunately, they cannot penetrate the JAMB system. The reason is that the system is foolproof and we will prove it at any time. “It is unfortunate that parents and some of the candidates who are being fooled are not aware that they have only been fooled. “There is internal evidence to show that the change in Mmesoma’s scores was done with her collaboration. There are certain features pertaining to her that only she knows, and unless she makes them available to somebody else, they couldn’t have increased her scores on her behalf.” The JAMB Registrar also disclosed that he earlier spoke with a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, on Ejikeme’s matter and told her that it was a high-level scam. “We improved our facilities this year, so Ejikeme and her collaborators were still living in the past. I spoke with Mrs Ezekwesili on the matter, and I told her that it was a high-level scam, a careless forgery. “This is because we are no longer using some of the things they used in changing those results since 2021. We used that pattern in 2021, and you saw what happened, and many of such individuals were caught as well, and they were treated accordingly,” Oloyede added. JAMB, however, banned Mmesoma Ejikeme from taking the board’s examinations for three years.

The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to bring Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme’s alleged results falsification case to rest by testing her with another examination. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Miss Ejikeme, erstwhile student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi in Anambra, had celebrated her emergence as the candidate with the highest score in the year 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB, in a statement on Sunday signed by its Spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, however, accused Miss Ejikeme of inflating her results to curry favour, adding that the result would be withdrawn as she would have to face prosecution. Speaking with newsmen in Owerri, on Tuesday, the Financial Secretary of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, called on the examination board to put the matter to rest by resetting the examination for Miss Ejikeme. Arthur-Ugwa described the situation as `embarrassing’ to the candidate, JAMB, and Nigeria in general and called on the Board to immediately clear its image and that of the nation. He added that the allegation would come with negative psychological and emotional effects on Mmesoma. Arthu-Ugwa called on the body to “desist from causing harm” in any form or by any means on an innocent youth who had yet to be pronounced guilty by the results of ongoing investigations into the matter. “Only another examination supervised by independent observers will bring this matter to rest and we will avail ourselves to be part of the supervision if need be,” he said. According to him, the Board had never complained of any attempt to manipulate its website, hence the need for the board not to preempt investigations. “Only a few years back, JAMB told us how a snake swallowed a huge sum of money in one of its offices; today we are being told that the results of an examination that should admit students into our hallowed tertiary institutions can no longer be trusted for what they are. “JAMB must, as a matter of national importance, realise the seriousness of its role in society and stop being in the news for the wrong reasons. “If its management can no longer hold forth, then let the Federal Government overhaul the entire board and save our country and her people from needless embarrassment’’, he said. NAN however, reports that Miss Ejikeme has denied the allegations, insisting that she scored a total of 362 marks in the examination as against JAMB’s 249 and adding that she printed the result from the board’s portal.

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, has responded to the claims made by Ejikeme Mmesoma, a candidate who recently sat for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Addressing the controversy surrounding Mmesoma’s result, Mr Oloyede stated that investigations conducted by JAMB revealed that the accused candidate “was either duped or she is a member of a high-level syndicate engaged in manufacturing fake UTME results.”

Photo Credit: @google Source:google During an interview with Premium Times on Monday evening, July 3rd, the JAMB registrar stood firm in his position and emphasized that the document being presented by Miss Mmesoma “belongs to another candidate who took the examination two years ago.” Explaining further, Oloyede highlighted a critical point of distinction. He said; “If you scan the code, the candidate’s result will show. So I can say emphatically that the girl is parading a fake result. It is either she is being duped, or she is part of a syndicate manufacturing purported JAMB results. “There are security features on our results, so I can emphasise that the girl is just trying to deceive the public. Her result is completely fake. Her claim that she printed the result from our site is a lie, totally incorrect. If we should reveal all that we know, people will be shocked. So if people are looking for shortcuts to achieve an end, that is what would happen.“
