Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, is declared the winner of Saturday’s presidential election conducted in Enugu State.

He defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress who polled 15,749 and 4772 votes respectively while Obi had 428,640 votes. The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, polled a total of 1,808 to record the fifth position. According to the collation officer, and Vice-Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Iwea announced that a total of 2,112,793 voters were registered for the election, while accredited voters for the election were 482,990. Iwe also noted that the total valid votes are 456,424, rejected votes 12,467 and total votes cast were 468,891 respectively. Peter Obi won all 17 local government areas of the state in a landslide.

In reaction to violence in some parts of the state, Bola Tinubu urges Lagosians to maintain civility and avoid violence of any form. “The fact that the APC narrowly lost Lagos State to another party should not be the reason for violence. As a democrat, you win some, you lose some. We must allow the process to continue unhindered across the country while we maintain peace and decorum,” he stated.

Peter Obi leads Tinubu in Lagos, 3 LG’s results pending

According to the latest report, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is currently leading Tinubu in the presidential elections held in Lagos on Saturday. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared results for 17 local governments, with the collation adjourned until 10:00 am. So far, Obi has garnered 449,088 votes, while Tinubu has received 416,431 votes. However, Tinubu has won in 10 local governments, while LP has won in 7 of the 17 LGAs declared. Tinubu’s wins include Agege, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere, while Obi’s wins include Eti-Osa, Amuwo Odofin, Ikeja, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, and Somolu. The results for Alimosho, Ojo, and Mushin are still pending.

After the votes were counted yesterday, February 25, Sowan Paul, the INEC presiding officer in the unit, announced that Labour Presidential candidate, Peter Obi scored 104 votes, APC scored 88 votes and PDP scored 8 votes in the presidential election.
