"Sanwo-Olu and his wife had invalid voter cards but were allowed to vote" ― Witness tells tribunal

As the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal continue to admit witnesses, an agent for the Labour Party, Mr Dayo Israel, appeared before the tribunal on Tuesday and gave a shocking revelation that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his wife, Ibijoke, had invalid voter cards but were allowed to cast their votes in the March 18 governorship election. GistReel reports that the Labour Party’s candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, is seeking to nullify Sanwo-Olu’s return as Lagos governor.

"Sanwo-Olu and his wife had invalid voter cards but were allowed to vote" ― Witness tells tribunal

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Israel, who monitored Unit 006, Ward 15, Lagos Island Local Government, provided this testimony as part of the petition filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour. The witness told the court that he observed the card reader indicating that Sanwo-Olu and his wife had invalid cards, yet they were still permitted to vote, which he considered a violation of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s electoral process. “I observed that the card reader showed their cards to be invalid but Sanwo-Olu and his wife were allowed to cast their votes and this is against INEC’s electoral process,” he said Under cross-examination from counsel to INEC, Charles Edosomwan, Israel alleged that he was beaten up by All Progressives Congress supporters on election day. He claimed to have recognised them as APC supporters based on their language and stated that they threatened to beat up voters who did not vote for the APC. He said, “I am not a member of the Labour Party, but I was assigned as an agent. When the APC thugs recognised me as an LP agent, they beat me up. They also said if voters did not vote for APC, they would beat them too.” Israel further described the incident, stating that four individuals attacked him during the casting of votes, but he managed to escape, changed his clothes to disguise himself, and returned to monitor the vote counting. The witness also highlighted cases of multiple voting at the polling unit, noting that INEC officials failed to intervene despite witnessing the irregularities. The hearing on the petition has been adjourned until July 3, when the proceedings will continue.

It would be recalled that Biggie dissolved all pairs, meaning the competition is back to being a solo game and each housemate is officially on their own. The three housemates received the fewest votes among the BBTitans housemates who were nominated for eviction. The nominated housemates included Kanaga Jnr., Nana, Thabang, Miracle Op, Tsatsii, Khosi, Yvonne, and Blue Aiva. Social media users speculated that the game was rigged in favor of other housemates, especially in the case of Blue Aiva. See How Viewers Voted out Blue Aiva, Nana, Miracle OP

Mc Oluomo

MC Oluomo who is a known supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this known during a campaign on Thursday 16th, 2023. In a video that has surfaced online, the union chairman can be seen addressing a large crowd and urging party supporters to tell their neighbours not to bother coming out to vote if they don’t intend to vote for the APC. The warning which was delivered in the Yoruba language may be perceived as a subtle threat even though he stated that it is not.

His speech, loosely translated, says, “We’ve appealed to them, if they won’t vote for us, it’s nothing to fight over. Kindly go and meet them and say Iya Chukwudi, please if you don’t want to vote for us, please sit down at home.” As seen on Twitter, the Igbo community took it as a threat to disenfranchise them from their electoral rights. I see no reason these guys can’t be resisted when you have the numbers no matter the location you are” @5Linus: “@USAGov this man threatening us has your green card, his whole family is in your country. According to a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), two party agents were involved in this activity in Bariga and Shomolu on Sunday, offering amounts of N1500 and N2000. One individual, who received N2000, stated that he did not vote for APC during the presidential election and may choose not to vote for them in the upcoming governorship poll. “I never voted for the APC in the presidential election. That I was given N2,000 doesn’t mean I would vote for the party on Saturday. Everything is just runs,” he said. Also, a 58-year-old woman, who benefited from the N1,500 APC bribe, confirmed the fund transfer on her mobile phone. “The APC just credited me with N1,500. I voted for them at the presidential and I’ll likely do the same at the gubernatorial this coming Saturday,” she said.
