Ex-Chelsea star Christian Atsu reportedly trapped under rubble in Turkey

Ghanaian international and former Chelsea and Newcastle player, Christian Atsu, is missing and believed to be trapped under the rubble of a building following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey.

The earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria overnight has claimed over 1,600 lives and injured thousands. Search and rescue efforts are underway to locate Christian Atsu, who currently plays for the Turkish club, Hatayspor. According to reports, two of Atsu’s teammates and technical staff members have been rescued from the rubble, but the former Chelsea and Newcastle player is still unaccounted for.

Atsu, who recently scored a game-winning goal for his club Hatayspor, joined Chelsea in 2013 but did not play for the club as he was loaned out to several teams, including Everton and Newcastle. The 31-year-old remains missing.

Cyber denizens have expressed displeasure at a clip of alleged bank officials who reportedly hid new currencies behind piles of old ones. In the video which surfaced online, officials could be seen instructing a young man at a bank vault being asked to bring down stacks of old naira notes.

As the video depicts, the new naira notes had evidently been hidden behind the old ones. The officials could be heard in the video telling the man to load up their machines with the new naira notes. A man has reportedly met his unfortunate end while waiting to withdraw the new Naira notes at a bank in Agbor, Delta State. The news was shared on Facebook by a user called Omole Mike who revealed that the incident had occured right in his presence.

It was gathered that the sad incident occured on the 2nd of February while the customer was waiting in line to make withdrawals. Omole Mike shared a photo of the customer who was seen sprawled on the floor in the bank. The user wrote; “Just now, right in my presence. at about 1:30pm. Somebody collapsed and died in First bank of Nigeria Agbor Branch. The Date is on 02-02-2023. May his Soul Rest in Peace. It is well.”

A woman who reportedly divorced her husband for taking a second wife has returned 4 years later to become his third wife.

The tale was shared on Twitter by a Tweep identified as @kawugarba who revealed that the woman had been the one to help the man pay for Law School fees. Years after finishing his studies and landing his dream job, he decided to install another wife to his home, but this has caused a problem between his wife who asked for a divorce. @kawugarba said that the woman returned five years later after the man had made another addition, making her the third wife. Steven Gerrard reportedly getting set to become Poland’s coach

English football legend, Steven Gerrard has emerged as a shock candidate to become Poland’s new head coach after their poor performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Poland is looking to replace former manager Czeslaw Michniewicz, whose contract was not renewed after a 3-1 defeat to France in the World Cup round of 16 last December. Polish publication Meczyki reported that the country’s FA has already made contact with Gerrard who has been out of job for the past two months after being sacked by Aston Villa. Other names on the list are Roberto Martinez, who became Portugal’s manager on Monday after parting ways with Belgium, and Herve Renard, the Saudi Arabia coach who masterminded a stunning 2-1 victory over eventual World Cup winners Argentina.

Other coaches considered include Vladimir Petković, Paulo Bento, and Nenad Bjelica. The Polish options are Marek Papszun or Jan Urban. Gerrard started his managerial career with Scottish Premiership giants Rangers in 2018 following a short stint with Liverpool’s U18s and U19s. He gave the club its first title in 10 years in 2021, managing to go an entire year unbeaten. The Liverpool legend was appointed as Aston Villa’s coach in November 2021. He was however sacked this season following a 3-0 defeat to Fulham in October.

Gregg Berhalter reportedly dropped as USA coach after kicking wife during ‘heated argument’

Gregg Berhalter will no longer be the head coach of the USA Men’s National Soccer team after a report of him kicking his wife after a “heated argument” made headlines.
Berhalter, whose contract with US Soccer expired on December 31, 2022, had admitted to kicking his wife in the legs during a heated argument outside a bar in 1991.

In a statement he released over the incident, 49-year-old Berhalter did not confirm whether he would coach the team in the build-up to the 2026 World Cup, but he said that he wants to share his side of the story.

“During the World Cup, an individual contacted U.S Soccer saying they had information about me that would “take me down” – an apparent effort to leverage something very personal from long ago to bring about the end of my relationship with U.S Soccer. This is a difficult step to take, but my wife, Rosalind, and I want to clearly and directly share the truth. This is a story that belongs to us, but hopefully there are lessons that can be valuable to others.
“In the fall of 1991, I met my soulmate. I had just turned 18 and was a freshman in college when I met Rosalind for the first time. There was a familiar feeling when we spoke. Rosalind was and is an amazing person – determined, empathetic, fun to be around – and we connected immediately. It felt like we had known each other for years. We had been dating for four months when an incident happened between us that would shape the future of our relationship. One night, while out drinking at a local bar, Rosalind and I had a heated argument that continued outside. It became physical and I kicked her in the legs.

“There are zero excuses for my actions that night; it was a shameful moment and one that I regret to this day. At the time, I immediately apologised to Rosalind, but understandably, she wanted nothing to do with me. I told my parents, family and friends what happened because I wanted to take full responsibility for my behaviour. Rosalind also informed her parents, family and friends. While the authorities were never involved in this matter, I voluntarily sought out counselling to help learn, grow and improve – one of the most valuable decisions that I ever made. To this day, that type of behaviour has never been repeated.
“I feared that I lost my soulmate and then out of the blue, seven months later I received a call from Rosalind asking if we could speak in person. We met and discussed how we had grown and decided to rebuild our relationship. Rosalind shared that her family supported this decision and by working through what happened, we both realised that our live, trust and respect for each other was stronger than the incident that occurred months earlier. Since then, Rosalind and I have lived together in five different countries, three different states, and have met and remained friends with many wonderful people from all around the world. All of these people have witnessed the strong relationship we have and the loving family we have built together.”

Though Berhalter and his wife have now been together for 25 years, celebrating their wedding relationship over the New Year’s Eve weekend, the US Soccer federation announced that it would be investigating the matter, and would release more information on its investigation at a later date.
ABC reported that USSF also said that it will announce “in the coming days” who will coach the team for exhibitions against Serbia on January 25 and Colombia three days later. These are the first matches for the Americans since they were eliminated by the Netherlands last month in the World Cup round of 16.

Berhalter, 51, was hired in December 2018 after the U.S. failed to qualify for that year’s World Cup. He has led the team to 37 wins, 11 losses and 12 draws, and the Americans earned the third and final automatic World Cup berth from the North and Central American and Caribbean region.
Berhalter is also the first American to play for and coach the U.S. at a World Cup.

A young lady identified as Odide Regina Uke has reportedly been murdered by a bike man after robbing and raping her in Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
According to reports, the young lady who was murdered by an okada rider arrived in Cross River State from Abuja to celebrate Christmas with her family.
The deceased is said to have boarded a bike to her village Abuagbor under Nyanya Ward after her arrival in the State. However, the deceased, Regina Uke was not seen after she boarded the bike to her hometown and all efforts to find her proved futile, reports say.
Her corpse was later found around Ugboro and Ijibor Community axis in the same Bekwarra LG. The Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government, Hon. Dr. Emeka Josephat Owan confirmed that the deceased was rapped and murdered.
