“I drank strong alcohol, went to graveyard to play role in Gangs of Lagos” — Tobi Bakre
Tobi Bakre, popularly known for his appearance on the reality show, Big Brother Naija, recently played the role of Obalola in the movie, ‘Gangs of Lagos’. In the film, Obalola is a street king with a traumatic childhood that left him with emotional scars.
Speaking about his experience in playing the character, Tobi shared that it was a challenging role for him because he had to tear down his mental walls and be vulnerable. He explained that as guys, they build walls and prepare for sad outcomes in life, but in this movie, he had to be vulnerable and emotional. To prepare for some of the emotional scenes, Tobi shared that he drank two plastic herbal bitters within five minutes and listened to sad music, including the emotional song ‘Celia’ by Tiwa Savage. He explained that he was not trying to fake his emotions but needed to be actually sad and in the scenario of the character.
“For “Gangs of Lagos’, that was challenging because like for the first time… you know as guys now, we build so many walls like you are ready for all the possible sad outcomes in life mentally. Like you don’t know it but… I was now playing the role of a strong guy but then in the same movie, he had moments when he had to be vulnerable. Bro, I had the toughest time. I had to tear my walls down. “You know those plastic [herbal bitters] drinks na? I drank two within the space of five minutes. I just felt like I drank water because I didn’t feel anything. I was listening to the saddest music. This is the song I always remember from Gangs of Lagos, the Celia song by Tiwa Savage. It is a very emotional song. I wasn’t trying to fake it [my role]. I needed to be actually sad, I needed to be there. So, I was putting myself in the scenario of this character. “I was self-reflecting. There was a graveyard right in front of where we were shooting. So my head was in different places. find eventually, we shot that scene. after we shot it, and they said ‘cut’, everyone stayed quiet. find people in the background were sobbing. It was almost as if for that moment everybody forgot that we were acting and some people were actually tearing up. “It [the character] leads sometimes like my wife now when I got home initially… Hardly, anger is the last emotion you can get but my fuss became shorter. On the road I’m driving, my fuss is a bit shorter because of this character I’m currently infusing. So, after the whole thing, I had to just ease out”. He said.
“She supported Tinubu who has held Lagos hostage for 20 yrs” — Toyin Abraham bashed over movie role in Gangs of Lagos
Popular Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham continues to face backlashes over her support for Tinubu with respect to her role in the latest movie, Gangs of Lagos.

A Twitter user identified as Adetutu Balogun pointed out that Toyin Abraham played the role of a politician that fought tirelessly for the freedom of the oppressed. However, in reality, she stands against the character portrayed in the Gang of Lagos by supporting the APC party.
“Nollywood will act but will not learn from it. In Gangs of Lagos,
@ToyinAbraham contested as a Gov. She was fighting a family that has held the state hostage for 20yrs. She wanted a change! In real life Toyin supported “Asiwaju baby” who has held Lagos hostage for 20 yrs+!” she wrote. How I lost lead role with Majid Michel for refusing to sleep with a marketer – Ruby Ojiakor
Nigerian actress Ruby Ojiakor has revealed how she lost a lead role with Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel after she refused to sleep with a marketer.
There have been several rumors about how some movie executives have been demanding sex from female actresses for a particular movie role. According to Ruby Ojiakor, she was replaced with another person when she refused sexual advances from the marketer. Speaking in an interview with The Punch, the actress disclosed that Majid Michel was paid extra to reshoot the same scenes with someone else. Ruby said; “I remember when I was called for a job in Enugu and we shot it for two days. I was supposed to be the female lead character in the movie. The marketer that owned the job wanted to ‘get down’ with me. But, I told him I could not do such a thing. I thought that since I had started shooting some scenes in the movie, nothing could be done to me and he cannot cancel my scenes, which I shot with Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel, then. I also felt Majid would not want to re-act the scenes he had done before. Those factors made me think that the producer’s decision to change me would be fruitless. But to my surprise, I was not called to continue my scenes. When I challenged the production manager, he said I should not be angry because someone else had been called to play the role. I was not given any reason for being removed from that project. I asked if Majid agreed to re-shoot those scenes, and I was told he was paid extra money to do so. That was how I lost a movie role because I refused to sleep with the owner of the movie. The scenes I had already shot were wiped out from that movie. That was a painful experience, but I have moved on. I don’t think anything can be done to stop sexual advances from filmmakers. Some people have tried to report them, but it has not yielded any positive results. When an actress reports an offender, she is practically setting herself up for a fall. The offenders know themselves, and if one person reports any of them, they would gang up against that actress in the industry, and she would not be getting movie roles. It is just like a cartel. The best thing is to train oneself and be firm that even if others are doing it, one will not do it. That was what I did.”

Tottenham has now confirmed that they’ve parted ways with the Italian football executive. A statement on Tottenham’s website read; “This week – 29 March 2023 – the FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced a decision to extend the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) sanctions, relating to Fabio Paratici, worldwide. This decision was taken in advance of Fabio Paratici’s Appeal hearing against the FIGC sanctions on 19 April 2023, the result of which would then have been considered by additional stakeholders, including the Club. “Given FIFA’s unexpected ruling, the sanctions may now have multi-jurisdictional effect, although they are still related to the FIGC Appeal. In view of FIFA’s decision, Fabio has agreed with the Club that he will take an immediate leave of absence pending the outcome of his Appeal.” The ex-director of football is just one of 11 former Juve executives to be hit with a ban, while the club themselves were handed a 15-point deduction for the current Serie A season.
