Portable to face prosecution over rude behavior to Ogun state police officer

Controversial singer, Habeeb Adunni Olawunmi Okikiola also known well as Portable is set to face prosecution for being rude to a police officer. In the early hours of yesterday, some police officers stormed the apartment of the singer Portable to arrest him. A video popped up on social media where Potable was heard shouting and challenging the police. He was heard saying: “I am a federal Government liability. I work with the Government too. I work with APC”. Following the incident, the Nigerian Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that Portable was likely to suffer persecution over his behavior towards the police officer.

According to Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Portable declined to accept earlier invitations, the reason why some police officers stormed his house to arrest him. While speaking to Linda Ikeji Blog, the police command disclosed that countless invitations were sent to Portable but refused to honor the invitation; leading to his arrest. However, the singer resisted and caused a commotion at his bar. The police command stated that the action of the singer is unlawful and subject to punishment under Nigerian criminal law.

Humphrey Anumudu hailed from the Mbieri Ancient Kingdom in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State. He was a business mogul and politician, who had been vying for the governorship seat in Imo State since 1998 until his demise. He was considered a billionaire and had reportedly won the governorship primary election under the Peoples Democratic Party in the state that same year. However, he later lost the ticket to Achike Udenwa who served as governor from 1999 to 2007. Since then, Anumudu had continued to contest for the governorship position. In 2019, he ran as the gubernatorial candidate for the Zenith Labour Party. He was a respected legal expert and served as the CEO of Globe Motors until his passing.

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice is set to charge Chrisland High School, Ikeja and some of its staff members with “Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless and Negligent Acts” over the death of Whitney Adeniran.

According to a statement released by the Director of Public Affairs, will be facing charges for the death of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran, who passed away during a sports event on February 9, 2023. Lagos State’s statement charging Chrisland School for Involuntary Manslaughter “On the 9th of February 2023, Whitney Omodesola Adeniran a student of Chrisland High School, Ikeja aged 12 years, slumped during the Inter-house Sports organised by the School at the Agege Sports Stadium and was subsequently rushed to Agege Central Hospital, Agege, Lagos, where she was confirmed “brought in dead” (BID) by the doctor on duty. “The case was referred to the Nigerian Police Force which carried out a thorough investigation with the help of other agencies. The file was subsequently forwarded to the DPP’s Office on Monday 20th March, 2023, for review of the duplicate case file. “On the 23rd of March, 2023, the DPP issued his Legal Advice and came to the conclusion that a prima facie case of Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless and Negligent Acts had been established against the school, some members of staff and one of the vendors. They will therefore be charged with the offences of Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless and Negligent Acts contrary to Sections 224 & 251 of the Criminal Law, Ch C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. “Information will be filed in accordance with the legal advice issued by the DPP. Certified True Copies of the Legal advice are available on the Ministry of Justice website (www.lagosstatemoj.org.).”

Recall that the Osun State tribunal had sacked Adeleke as Governor months after his victory citing such issues as over-voting in 749 polling units in the 10 LG areas of the state. A three-member panel of justices decided in Adeleke’s appeal on Friday, concluding that the election tribunal fell short in finding that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress had established their claim of over voting. The court of appeal had faulted the tribunal for making a decision which was based on oral witness of alleged over voting as what is usually considered are the information on the BVAs and voter registration. In addition to overturning the tribunal’s decision, the court gave the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate Gboyega Oyetola N500, 000 in costs in its lead judgment, which was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal.

Mbah’s declaration as Governor by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, comes following days of controversy over the results from Nkanu East Local Government Area. According to the Returning Officer, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe, the collation was taken over by the INEC national headquarters in Abuja after those of them in Enugu could not have a common ground. Peter Mbah Mbah polled 160,895 votes slightly above his closest rivals, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party, who scored 157,552, and Uche Nnaji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 14,575 votes, amongst others.

Umar Namadi was declared the winner of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Jigawa State after polling 618,449 votes. “The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Namadi Umar Alhaji scored 618,449 to beat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Lamido Mustapha Sule who scored 368,726 votes and Ibrahim Aminu Ringim of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) scored 37,156 votes. “Therefore, Umar Namadi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the higher votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the returning Officer for the state gubernatorial election, Prof. Zayyanu Umar Birnin Kebbi, announced at the Collation Centre in Dutse.

INEC has announced the cancellation of the state house of assembly elections scheduled for Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State.

The approach was in reaction to the kidnapping of 17 ad-hoc staff earlier today, 18th March 2023. This unfortunate incident raised serious concerns about the safety of electoral officers and the integrity of the election process. An anonymous source within the commission revealed that the INEC staff were reportedly overpowered by gunmen who forced them into vehicles before speeding away. Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji, who is a spokesperson for INEC, however, confirmed the rescue of the kidnapped staff in response to a distress call, with operatives immediately taking action upon receiving information about the incident. Despite successfully rescuing the individuals, Chijioke-Osuji also noted that the election materials, including BVAS and sensitive materials, were not retrieved.
