Anthony Chinasa-Abiola, the elected Labour Party candidate in Abia state’s House of Assembly, denies rumours that he is of Yoruba descent.

Despite the “Abiola” name in his title, there have been assumptions that he comes from the Yoruba ethnic group during the controversy that trailed the Lagos Labour Party candidate. In a TVC interview, Chinasa explained that he simply adopted the name Abiola to show support for Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party candidate in Lagos. According to him, the name Abiola is just a “nickname” or “guy name” that he employed. He, however, noted that he did not debunk it until now because he wanted the viral reaction to favour GRV. Ruth Carter makes history, becomes first Black woman to win two Oscars

American costume designer, Ruth Carter, has made history as she becomes the first Black woman to win two Oscars.

In 2019, Ruth Carter won her first Oscars award for costume design for her work on Marvel’s “Black Panther”. She has also been recognized for the film’s sequel, “Wakanda Forever.” While giving her acceptance speech, Ruth Carter expressed her gratitude to director Ryan Coogler and asked late “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman to look after her own mother, who recently died at 101. She said; “Nice to see you again,” Carter said as she took the stage. “Thank you to the Academy for recognizing the superhero that is a Black woman. She endures, she loves, and she overcomes, she is every woman in this film. She is my mother. This past week, Mable Carter became an ancestor. This film prepared me for this moment. Chadwick, please take care of Mom. Ryan Coogler, and Nate Moore, thank you both for your vision. Together, we are reshaping how culture is represented. The Marvel family, Kevin Feige, Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, and their arsenal of genius thank you. I share this with many dedicated artists whose hands and hearts helped manifest the costumes of Wakanda and Talokan. This is for my mother. She was 101.”

Kai Havertz has jumped to the defence of Chelsea’s coach, Graham Potter, after a Champions League quarter-finals win over Borussia Dortmund. Havertz converted a penalty in Tuesday night’s last-16 clash, and it was a goal that gave Chelsea the 2-1 win on aggregate. The German footballer who spoke to reporters after the match was asked what qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League meant for Potter. Ayinke who is a nurse abroad said that she won’t tolerate being bashed by Nigerians over her presidential choice as she had been mute when others were busy showing off theirs. Speaking with her foreign accent, Ayinke noted to detractors that she won’t be stooping to their level to throw insults.

The general elections which kicked off on the 25 of February 2023 leave many in a state of anxiety as the collation of results continues across the country. A young child, however, is seen in a trending video crying out her eyes while praying for Peter Obi to win the election.

Social media users have a massive reaction to the video, expressing their thoughts and offering prayers that God would answer the little girl’s wishes. Driver crashes while trying to win N500K bet in Lekki

An overzealous driver crashes his car in Lekki while attempting to win a bet that involved flying over a fence with his vehicle.

The driver reportedly engaged in a bet with a group who dared him to drive his car across a short fence with a cash prize of N500K placed as bet. According to an eye witness, the incident happened at the Marwa bus stop in Eti-Osa LGA Lagos. The driver was said to have sped across the street after accepting the bet with the zeal of winning the money. Unfortunately, he was unable to jump over the fence and ended up with his car standing on its nose.

Karim Adeyemi, a Nigerian player for Borussia Dortmund attributes his speed to consuming an African dish, fufu, post-Chelsea game.
