MC Oluomo, the Chairman of the Lagos Parks Management Committee, urges those planning to vote for a different party other than APC in the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections in Lagos to stay at home on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
MC Oluomo who is a known supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this known during a campaign on Thursday 16th, 2023. In a video that has surfaced online, the union chairman can be seen addressing a large crowd and urging party supporters to tell their neighbours not to bother coming out to vote if they don’t intend to vote for the APC. The warning which was delivered in the Yoruba language may be perceived as a subtle threat even though he stated that it is not.
His speech, loosely translated, says, “We’ve appealed to them, if they won’t vote for us, it’s nothing to fight over. Kindly go and meet them and say Iya Chukwudi, please if you don’t want to vote for us, please sit down at home.” As seen on Twitter, the Igbo community took it as a threat to disenfranchise them from their electoral rights. During an interview on Arise TV’s ‘The Morning Show’ on Monday, Peter Obi expressed that doing the right thing was God’s desire. Obi stated that he holds great respect for notable Nigerians, including clerics and traditional rulers but to agree to the loss is impossible. “I disagree with them. What they’re actually preaching is the problem of Nigeria. The problem of Nigeria is accepting wrongdoing, accepting what is unacceptable…that is using God’s name in vain. That’s not what God says.” He continued, “What they’re saying is not God’s wish. It is not God’s plan for Nigeria. Why don’t we accept that the 133 million Nigerians who are poor is God’s wish? Why don’t we accept that 95 million Nigerians living in…poverty is God’s wish? It is God’s wish that we don’t have electricity. It is God’s wish that our children are kidnapped. It is God’s wish that we have collapsed primary healthcare leading us to be the country with the highest (rate of) infant mortality… That’s not what God says. God’s wish is when you do the right thing.” Obi commented that the election procedures had clear regulations that, if adhered to, would prevent reason to challenge the process. He continued, “it would have been concluded in a matter of hours without anybody arguing about it. But it is not God’s wish that you do the wrong thing.” “It is not God’s wish that you go and rob a train and make money and start sharing it… This is what is killing the country. People come here, take public money and then go and give it to people in the Church…and they say it’s God’s wish…that is what we’re fighting. That’s what we want to stop. “We want God’s wish to be truly God’s wish. And that is when we do the right things and God gives His blessings. “What do you tell the young ones growing up? That it’s God’s wish that you steal? That is God’s wish that you conduct a wrong election? So, tell me the difference between those of us who are doing this and the armed robbers,” Obi said. Obi noted that he wants “God to allow us to do the right things so we can start building a better country for our children.” 
It was reported earlier that Casemiro who will now miss three Manchester United matches, was shown the red card for choking Crystal Palace’s midfielder Will Hughes in a brawl that occurred during the match which ended 2-1 in favour of the Red Devils. When asked for his comment on it, Vieira said he won’t be giving any because he doesn’t want to be punished by the Football Association. 
He told BBC Sport; “I was too far away to see it. I don’t want to get involved in that. I don’t want to get fined or suspended, so I will wait for your next question.” Vieira’s side will hope to get their first win in six matches when they take on Brighton next week, while United will meet Leeds on February 8.
