I think God has given me an incredible opportunity to serve as your president. And I thank God for that. “So, please, whoever feels I have done wrong to them, we are all humans. There is no doubt I hurt some people and I wish you will pardon me. And those that think that I have hurt them so much, please pardon me.”  Buhari’s Retirement Plan “I am counting the days. Democracy is a good thing; otherwise, how can somebody from the other side be a president for two terms? From my home town to the Niger Republic is eight kilometers. “I assure you, I have deliberately arranged to be as far away from you as possible, not because I don’t appreciate the love you’ve shown to me, but because I think I’ve gotten what I have asked and I would rather quietly retire to my hometown (Daura, Katsina).”

The presidential candidates for the opposition parties have sued the All Progressive Congress (APC) and INEC over alleged rigging of the elections.  “On May 29th, there would be a peaceful formal transfer of power to the new President,” Boss Mustapha, chairman of the transition committee, has said. Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the presidential candidate for APC, Bola Tinubu with a total of 8,794,726 whereas his other rivals and candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, polled 6,984, 520 and 6,101,533 respectively.

The chairman of the transition committee, Mustapha told journalists, “all litigation, whether resolved or not, will not in any way stop the process”. He added that Buhari will not stay beyond the time allowed by the constitution. “The security committee has the responsibility to ensure that nothing happens to truncate the transition process. Nigerians are very law-abiding people”. “There are provided avenues for those” who lost in the election “to make whatever legal inquiry they want to make but the process would continue unabated”. We would not create another constitutional crisis; on May 29, the handing over will take place,” he assured.

Buhari Addresses Insecurity “As a country,  we are proud since the first seven years, we have been able to revitalise our armed forces for the protection of the Nigeria’s territorial integrity that was once violated by Boko Haram insurgency and other forms of criminality in the country. “I commend the armed forces for their support and role played during the presidential and National Assembly elections.  I want to assure you all, that your labour will not be in vain. My regime would continue to support you in every aspect including improving your welfare. “Let me also assure Nigerians, the Federal Government remains steadfast and committed to winning the war against insurgency and other forms of criminalities. We will not relent until we have a new Nigeria that is free from the terrorism menace” Major General Bashir Magashi (retd.), the Minister of Defence, acknowledged that the effort to modernize the armed forces has been difficult due to the security and economic obstacles faced by the country. General Bashir’s Statement on Transforming the Armed Forces “It is worthy of note that the process of transforming the Armed Forces of Nigeria over the years has not been easy given the numerous multi-dimensional security and economic challenges facing the country. Notwithstanding, the current administration has security as a priority in its agenda, hence the need to equip the Armed Forces with all necessary platforms to ensure peace and security in the country.” “At this juncture, permit me to state that the complexity of crimes in various spheres of operation requires all actors both public and private to synergize efforts to safeguard the nation from every form of anti-establishment activities. It is therefore most pleasant to take delivery of these troops-carrying vehicles, especially at this period to facilitate the operational activities of the Armed Forces.”

President Buhari congratulates Bola Tinubu

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari congratulates the winner of the 2023 presidential elections, Bola Tinubu.

Buhari

It will be recalled that the Presidental Election was held on the 25th of February, 2023. Following the voting exercise, the Independent and National Electoral Commission, INEC declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 general elections on Wednesday, 1st of March, 2023. As a show of courtesy, President Buhari has penned a lengthy congratulatory message to the winner. STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
PRESIDENT BUHARI CONGRATULATES WINNER OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU
President Muhammadu Buhari heartily congratulates the winner of the (2023) Presidential Election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Reacting to the results just announced, President Buhari said: “I congratulate His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory. Elected by the people, he is the best person for the job. I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power. The election was Africa’s largest democratic exercise. In a region that has undergone backsliding and military coups in recent years, this election demonstrates democracy’s continued relevance and capability to deliver for the people it serves. “Within Nigeria, the results reveal democracy’s ripening in our country. Never has the electoral map shifted so drastically in one cycle. In the presidential elections, states in all regions across the nation changed colour. Some amongst you may have noticed my home state amongst them. The winning candidate did not carry his own home state either. That happens during a competitive election. Votes and those that cast them cannot be taken for granted. Each must be earned. Competition is good for our democracy. There is no doubt the people’s decision has been rendered in the results we look at today.
“That is not to say the exercise was without fault. For instance, there were technical problems with electronic transmission of the results. Of course, there will be areas that need work to bring further transparency and credibility to the voting procedure. However, none of the issues registered represent a challenge to the freeness and fairness of the elections.
“I know some politicians and candidates may not agree with this view. That too is fine. If any candidate believes they can prove the fraud they claim is committed against them, then bring forward the evidence. If they cannot, then we must conclude that the election was indeed the people’s will — no matter how hard that may be for the losers to accept. If they feel the need to challenge, please take it to the courts, not to the streets.
“However, to do the latter means they are not doing it in the interest of the people, but rather to inflame, to put people in harm’s way and all for personal, selfish gains. “After a degree of polarization that necessarily accompanies any election, it is now time to come together and act responsibly. I call on all candidates to remember the peace pledge they signed just days before the election. Do not undermine the credibility of INEC. Let us now move forward as one. The people have spoken.”

President Buhari appeals to Nigerians

The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has addressed Nigerians concerning the forthcoming election.

President Buhari

With the election just a couple of days away, the outgoing present of the nation takes to his official Facebook page to address his people. He urged the contestants to accept the results of the election in good faith. President Buhari wrote: “Since my assumption of office, we have worked so hard to ensure that we pass on a legacy of free, fair, credible, safe, and peaceful elections. We will continue to act with neutrality and allow the rule of law to take precedence over political expediency.
We have demonstrated that with the off-cycle elections in Edo, Ondo, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun States. We allowed Nigerians to decide who should govern them. We are committed to this legacy in this administration.
I am asking @inecnigeria, the security agencies and all other relevant institutions to be firm and courageous, and to abide by the laws and constitutional provisions in conducting the elections. You are assured of this administration’s full and continuous support. We must constantly improve our electoral process using technology and all the positive elements it brings, to consolidate the integrity of our elections. I urge the candidates contesting these elections at all levels to respect the choice of voters and accept the result of the elections as announced by @inecnigeria, the agency empowered by law to do so. Any aggrieved candidate should resort to the established judicial processes, and we must have the confidence to trust our legal systems.
Let me remind all Nigerians, not for the first time, that, this is the only country we have, and we must do everything to keep it safe, united and peaceful. There should be no riots or acts of violence after the announcement of the election results. All grievances, personal or institutional, should be channeled to the relevant Courts.
Saturday February 25, 2023 will make it exactly one year since I assented to the Electoral Act 2022, one of the most important legacies of our Administration, and a significant contribution to our vision of improving the quality of Nigeria’s electoral process.”
