At the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards held in Accra on May 6, the Nigerian superstar Asake was named the Best African Artist. Asake made the title after beating a strong lineup of Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Asake, Kizz Daniel, and Ayra Starr, as well as newcomers The Therapist and Cameroonian-American singer Libianca. Also, Nigerian hitmaker Mayorkun won the award for Best Collaboration for his contribution to Camidoh’s ‘Sugarcane’ remix, while Hip Hop star Black Sherif was awarded both Best Artist and Most Popular Song for his chart-topping hit ‘Kwaku The Hustler’. The event was organized to celebrate the achievements of Ghanaian artists and the music industry in the preceding year.
